Not recommend this school to student and parents who are serious about learning and wanting to have full experience of middle school and high school academic and social life. The administrators and staff are unprofessional and unethical. They are there to make money from you, the quality of the education and wellbeing of your kids are not their priority and top agenda. They change their attitudes 180 degrees and become nonresponsive and arrogant as soon as your kids are in their school and they can take money from you!

My boys have attended William and Reed for the past two years and we are so pleased with the school! The staff and teachers have been supportive and kind, even when handling disciplinary issues. The inclusive atmosphere has allowed my sons, who had never been interested in school-sponsored extracurriculars, to get really involved. They have tried so many new things and grown through them. And because the school is small, students make friends in all grades. My two have many of the same friends, which has brought them closer together. I highly recommend William and Reed! I only wish we'd come there sooner.

The Grices unequivocally endorse William & Reed Academy. Our son McCord initially attended Marist High School for his freshman and sophomore years. But he also plays golf at a national level and we were discovering that he was the only serious junior golfer in the metro area that actually attended a 5-day, 8:00 to 3:30 high school. In other words, he was at a competitive disadvantage amongst his peers. So we searched for an education solution that gave him more time to practice but still provided excellent academics (you know, just in case that pro tour thing doesn’t work out). We found that solution with William & Reed.Beyond its rigorous and broad academic offerings and flexibility in schedule, three things really stood out for us and set W&R apart. First, the teachers at W&R really care. We have never seen a set of teachers take such an interest in both the academic and personal growth of their students. And, with such a small class size, they were able to really give McCord support, both in the classroom and real life. These teachers were more than just subject-matter teachers to McCord. Second, while it had an abbreviated class day schedule, W&R still felt like a community. This is not a school where students wander in-and-out of the building doing their own thing solely as individuals. Even though many students pursue individual interests, there is still a feeling within the halls of a traditional campus and community. Finally, it is said that the quality of every house starts with its foundation. And here, the foundation of W&R’s house is its headmaster, Hunter Cluthe. Hunter is so full of positive energy and vibe. Every time we met with him, on no matter the topic, we were energized and supportive! And that energy permeates the halls of W&R and positively affects both the teachers and the students. He serves as the foundation as to the why the teachers are so engaged and why there is such a community feeling within the building.McCord is off to play golf on a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin in the fall--his dream school and one of the world’s great universities including one with substantial academic rigor and requirements. William & Reed Academy, and its headmaster and teachers, made the fulfillment of that dream possible and have given McCord the foundation to be successful at college and in life. William and Reed is an excellent school. Staff is qualified, patient, approachable, helpful, professional and kind. Environment overall is engaging in and out of class room. Community service, sports programs and hands on learning opportunities.

William and Reed provides a top notch education with a personalized touch. The staff gets to know each and every kid which makes a big difference during challenging teen years. The schedule allowed my son to also focus on his tennis and the education and flexibility of this school resulted in tennis and academic scholarship for college at a D1 school. The curriculum is rigorous, but will set your child up well for college studies. Take a tour!

I cannot say enough good things about W&R Academy. It is a truly different alternative to other schools. So many kids are stressed out trying to keep up with the Joneses with AP classes and pulling all-nighters studying. W&R recognizes that education consists of many things besides just book knowledge. W&R has found a good life balance that allows the students to receive an excellent quality education and also have time to experience life to learn the lessons that cannot be taught in books. AP courses are offered, but aren’t pushed like they are at some other schools. On the last day of school before graduation, my son had tears in his eyes and could only say “I wish I had been at this school longer”. He scored well on the standardized tests, got into the college of his choice in their honors program, and received several academic scholarships. In short, he is well-prepared for higher education and for life in general.

William and reed is an amazing school. the teachers care about their students and most students I know love it. However, there were a few things I wish I had known. Number one is that coming from a public middle school (river trail) the homework load is about 10 times what I got before. There are a lot of projects and tests. I believe this is because most of the teachers teaching mainly high schoolers. Another thing that was an issue is finals. As someone who had never taken a final, I and the other first-year students didn't really understand how they worked (while the students who had taken them before understood perfectly). because of this, I found a lot of the teachers didn't explain finals well leading many to be confused and slightly under-prepared. another issue I had was phones. their phone policy seems to change every day, with one teacher making a student unlock their phone and go through their messages. The final issue I had was their dress code (as normal) girls would get dress coded a lot more than boys. One boy would wear ripped jeans and never get dress coded while as soon as a girl wore them she would get sent to the office. However, besides those issues, my experience at William and reed was phenomenal and was amazing. Nearly all the teachers care about the students, and Mr.Cluthe runs an exceptional experience. The one other significant thing about William and reed is their covid precautions. they did an outstanding job with covid. they never closed down the school and there was never a major outbreak (a few teachers got it).

William & Reed has been excellent for my children. The teachers are fantastic and care about their students. This small school provides an excellent learning environment. Even during Covid, safe in person instruction continues. My daughter who graduated from W&R is doing very well in college now and is grateful for the rigor she received here. William & Reed is perfect for the student who desires to learn, yet without all the “other stuff” that goes on in middle school and high school. Hence the short school day - time spent mainly on the core classes needed for graduation. They provide plenty of AP courses to choose from as well. The college counseling and the college preparedness the high school students receive here is invaluable. If your student has a desire to learn and feels as though they are wasting time in public school all day, this is the school for you. The price is lower than most private schools in the area. And because of how well my children are prepared for college, it’s worth every cent!

I have been at this school for a couple of years, and the past years have been great. But this year, I am struggling with the way the teachers teach, the work-load, bullies, and anxiety more than ever. I also do not like the options for Spanish. You have a choice to do an extremely difficult course online, or you can do it 2 days a week for two hours at a time. It is too much for the students.

This is a response to the review published on 3/1/17. This review is written by Hunter Cluthe, Head of School. The review posted on 3/1/17 is inaccurate and appears to be posted to harm the school, not to provide correct information to others. Moreover, we believe the review was written by a disgruntled parent over financial issues (i.e. - being charged late fees after several warnings, not being released from their contract because their child's sports situation changed, etc.). We were aware that the parent may have felt the school was rigorous for their child’s level/ability, and the school was receptive to this and put strategies in place to ensure that child was successful (and they were). However, none of the other concerns listed were brought to the attention of the administration and are misleading in the review. The expectation is communicated that parents voice any concerns as they occur so we may address them on our end. To write a review, after never meeting with a single person in the school, and without giving the school an opportunity to respond, offer insight/perspective, or correct any issues is completely unfair and most unfortunate. This parent had ample opportunities to communicate with the school and chose not to. In fact, this parent cancelled a parent/teacher conference the morning of the conference and said they would reschedule, but never rescheduled. It was very inconsiderate of our teachers’ time and would have provided a great forum to voice concerns so that we could work together to remedy any concerns/issues. Our faculty is very receptive to working with students and parents to ensure student confidence, progress, and positive results. William & Reed Academy wishes this parent's child much happiness and success at their new school. Further, I welcome the opportunity to address these concerns with this parent/reviewer to give insight and the school's perspective as well as reflect on things that we may improve upon on our end.

I must say that having our daughter at William & Reed Academy for 6th and 7th grade has been wonderful for her. She has more confidence, has built strong relationships with her peers and teachers, has been held accountable, and she has shown very positive progress in her academics. The school, for us, is the perfect balance of great teachers, a supportive administration, and allowing our daughter to have a life outside of school while excelling in school. We are excited to see the school continue to add accelerated courses (our daughter took Algebra I in 7th grade and will be taking Geometry in 8th grade). Also, the high school now has five Advanced Placement courses and offers Move On When Ready. We are excited to return for 8th grade!

This school will not make it far in the long run. The school barely has any acceleration options. As a past student, it made my anxiety way worse. They do not have a guidance counselor to remedy situations. Mr. Cluthe is a good man, but does not run a good school. The teachers are taught to teach high school, not middle school. If you want to spend money on a good school, I recommend Fulton Science Academy Private School.

William & Reed Academy has exceeded all of our expectations as a private school for children in grades 6-12. This school is inclusive and maintains a student body with a wide array of interests and talents. William & Reed’s approach to learning with face-to-face and online classes prepares this generation’s students for the future. The innovative scheduling and wide array of class keeps students engaged and challenged. The school is fully accredited and the staff’s credentials are impeccable. This up and coming private school recognizes that each student is an individual and treats them as such. The kind and personable atmosphere is beyond welcoming. As progressive as this school is, they have also incorporated the traditional basics with honors and AP classes, athletics, foreign language, student counsel, a yearbook committee and much, much more. The convenient location and transportation options make this school a must see for those who need to consider after school logistics. The staff routinely queries parents and students for their input and arranges unique and exciting field trips and off campus learning activities. A big thank you to Hunter Reed Cluthe, Head of School, for his educational passion, kind heart and for making education what it should be!

We, as parents, believe its import to be able to connect and communicate easily with our child's teachers and the school administrators in a productive way - you get that at W & R! The smaller class sizes means the teachers actually get to know the students (and families) and get to make real connections with them. The administration takes an active interest in the students, their issues, interests, and problems. Our children still need guidance in this new stage of independence and often don't want it from us, they get it here at W & R. As a parent of two children coming from a small school background, this is the perfect fit for bridging into the big world.

We absolutely love William & Reed Academy. It's the staff--they are visibly dedicated to the success of the students and growth of the Academy. I would say the biggest difference is the level of knowledge retention we see in our daughter. Her conversations are much more engaging and her interest in current events and discussions has elevated greatly. Love having college counseling on-site and supportive staff always available.

I rarely take the time to post a review however our experience at William and Reed has been so terrible I felt I needed to warn others. I decided to give this school a try mainly b/c of the great reviews and then the outstanding orientation we attended. Wow...our experience has been so different than the reviews from last year. We experienced and extremely accelerated middle school program due to the shortened work week and shortened semesters/minimesters. Lazy teachers who are teaching both middle and high school and aren't trained to do both, ridiculous amount of homework despite them preaching they are all about work, life balance and no text book or online books. The kids are constantly given worksheets, math sheets and print outs or have to take notes from a PDF on the board. Poorly run. Mr Cluthe is a nice guy but seriously stretched thin and really has no idea what is happening in the class. I cannot wait until the school year is over. Save your money and stay away. I have heard that things were very different in 2015/2016 and the reviews reflect that. What has happened and why are so many people leaving? It is such a great niche (6th to 12th grade) but they have missed the boat.

Under the umbrella of exceptional teachers and administrators, our daughter thrived at William & Reed. Teachers are there because they truly love to teach. They care about their students and because of the small class sizes, they are able to really get to know each child. Hunter Cluthe and his staff have created an educational environment that you can only dream about. Supportive, encouraging, engaging, flexible - all while challenging your child to be the best that they can be. I cannot say enough about this school. Beyond five stars!

We have found exactly what we were looking for at William and Reed-an environment where kids are taught to actually learn, and teachers who have the freedom to provide creative, hands on, and not straight from the books instruction. What a relief to not have to waste time 'teaching to the test!' The teachers and administrators have a genuine interest in each child's academic performance and are incredibly supportive. We know we made the right decision with W & R!"

I can't thank the team at William & Reed enough for the commitment they made to my daughter and the assistance they provided her to graduate on time. In less than a year and a half, they caught her up from being behind a semester behind to graduating on time. Their creativity in finding the required classes, their encouragement of her and unsurpassed passion of the teachers and counselors of keeping her on track was priceless. I would highly recommend the W&R for any family that requires a flexible schedule for their son or daughter that also includes higher learning.
