It's an okay school with some decent teachers. But if you have a special needs child they do not offer support at all and will treat them differently

This is a terrible school with incompetent administrators who don't do their job well.

Ok for typical kids. Horrible for any child with a learning disability. The bullying is out of control even for the typical kids. administration is horrible. They see numbers and not kids. They could care less about what best for a child and quickly do what they can to get "problem" children sent to the alternative school. Most teachers are great but can only do so much with the little support they have.

Current Administration is doing a great job of cleaning up the mess left to them by previous leaders. Classrooms seem very engaged with normal growing pains. Most of parents complaining are ones with kids needing to be disciplined at home and whom can do no wrong. Mr. Henderson and his V.P crew are doing a fantastic job!

We've been at Hanes for six years now and in that time I've seen plenty of good and bad go on.The bad: Poor leadership- We've been through three principals and multiple vice principals who struggle to bring up scores and a severe lack of community among the staff. Poor parental involvement- If you're looking for a school where parents and teachers work as one, this isn't it. Teachers have no interest in joining PTA and the Parent Center to form a community that our students can depend on. I understand teachers work hard, but parental involvement needs to be a top priority! Young, inexperienced teachers- A vast majority of teachers are under 30 and it shows. I know MANY of Hanes parents who complain about getting calls or emails for minor issues, but don't get replies to their own concerns. Too many students to teachers- This year the average is 21, but there are anywhere from 17-35 students per teacher over the years.Administration- The current principal and v. principal need training for special needs children. They have no idea how to handle these children and in my years here I've seen things get physical between staff and students holding children down, pinning them because the staff had no better solutions than to restrain the students.Some teachers- teachers having a "it's good enough" or "at least the student tried" attitudes. The lack of support these teachers get from the administration shows, many just give up. Pros:Individual teachers are great- There are some amazing teachers on staff who go above and beyond for the children. A majority of the gifted classes have excellent teachers, the special needs class has patient, knowledgeable teachers. It's luck of the draw though! As I said, the teachers and admin need to work on a sense of community. They need to support each other and to welcome and encourage parental support as well.Parent Center- the current parent liason is excellent at her job! She is open and welcoming to all parents and encourages parents to volunteer, she arrangea dad club, is part of PTA and goes above and beyond to build a sense of community. Unfortunately her work often falls on deaf ears as administration and teachers, again, lack a sense of community.Wrapping it up: this school has great potential, but a lack of motivation to work together and set goals together is really holding the school back.

Great school my daughter loved it here her teacher is a great teacher she helped her and encouraged her. As parents we are also a very important role in our kids education so whatever you do at home with your child will reflect at school. Teachers and parents should work as a team... support your kids teacher and i grantee you your child will do great. Very satisfied with Hanes

My children both have attended Hanes. I had one attend from 2006 until 2012 (all 6 years). I also have one that has gone from 2009 and is presently going into the 4th grade. I love this school so much that when we moved out of their boundry I have had them transferred. The teachers are great. They work very hard to help all the children succeed. They help children who are struggling with reading and math by having after school tutoring. Teachers work for very little money with a low budget. Most the time they have to buy their own extra supplies or any thing else they need for their class. I believe the negative reviews probably have another story because no Hanes teacher would ever say just fail its ok. Parents need to realize they have to put in work at home too. I know shocking that you would actually have to do something with your own kid. And no I am not a teacher just a teacher advocate.

My daughter has been going to Hanes for the past 2 years and will be going into 4th grade this year. I think this school and the teachers are awesome! Not sure about the bad reviews written on here, but I have never had any problems with this school. We did have some issues with a child in my daughter's class, but the principal and the couselor got involved and immediately removed the child from the classroom. I give Hanes 5 Gold Stars!

This school is has not benefited my Kindergarten son. The teacher was bias, negative, unsupportive and offensive. She had very poor teaching skills and no motivation for my child to do his best. Any work my son excelled in was not revealed to me, but things he did not do well on was sent home in a folder. This school's staff really needs training in diversity. I was not given pertinent information, such as Spelling Bees or Awards Ceremonies. These are things I had to find out for myself, if at all.

This is my daughter's third year hear and she has been blessed to have really great teachers. Unfortunately, there has been an obvious change for the worse since the new principal came on board. Not only does there seem to be a new financial focus but the way she speaks at open houses really inflicts guilt and failure even in parents like me who contribute and participate in my child's learning and class in every possible way.

This school has really gone downhill since the new principal came into the picture in 2009. You can see that in 2010 every TAKS score went down and the school went from recognized to academically acceptable. The Principal is degrading to her teachers in meetings and she's inappropriate with the children. I will pull my child out of this school as soon as I'm able to move. I couldn't be more disappointed in this administration. I wish more parents would voice their concern.
