We are new to Hyde Park the last few years and we have been so expressed. Lots of opportunities for family involvement. Teachers are easy to get in touch with and my daughter is challenged daily.

There are some exceptional teachers at HPES (Kindergarten, Music, Library, one 3rd grade teacher, one 4th grade teacher, & one 6th grade teacher). There are also some exceptionally poor teachers at HPES, which I will not name. We had issues with 3 consecutive years teachers. One of my kids cried the first week of school that he/she hated school & hated the teacher & my kid was only 7 or 8 at the time. There is a lack of communication between home & classroom. Disruptive kids & special needs kids took too much time away from the classroom as a whole. Poor math & reading programs & science needs to be beefed up. Seems to be quite a few families who take their kids out of HPES to home school during 5th grade (based on history & current year). The environment as a whole is poor. Teacher attitudes are not good & at times reflect in the classroom with the kids as well as with the parents. Although HPES talks about parent involvement, they don't really like the involvement. Parents ask too many questions that administration & teachers can't answer. There is a new principal this year. Hopefully she can make some great changes. I can't wait for my child to be done with HPES.
