Staff does not communicate or follow IEP, if you stand up for yourself or your child you are bullied and harassed and so is your kid. Teachers assume the worst out of children and talk/treat them terribly. This school has poor teaching practices and constantly make promises with no follow through. They will undermine you and talk poorly about you to your child, and have no problem lying right to your face.

We came to this school from out of state and our kiddo had a rough time transitioning. The staff, teachers, and other kids were welcoming, kind, and really helpful. All adults in the school communicated very well with me, let me know how his days were going, where he was struggling, and had great ideas for how to help and get him acclimated. It took a little while and a lot of effort, but with the unwavering support of staff, teachers, and parents of other students, my kid is now thriving and doing so great. His younger sibling will be starting at HWMS next year and we couldn't be happier. I had heard in previous years that the school was struggling, but in my experience over the last two years, everyone has gone above and beyond. I know when things are happening in the community, know when things are happening in the school, and if there are any emergencies in the school I will find out about it that day because of the emails and phone calls that go out. It really is a great school, there are great teachers, and I believe my kids are getting a great education. Please keep in mind, this is a middle school... middle school is a difficult transition for kids! It was AWFUL for me, personally, so I get it. I know kids don't always want to go and there's always a lot more going on than just being in class. I will say, my kid has been way more interested in school this year than he has been in quite some time. As a parent, I'm a fan of HWMS.

The staff never tries to help the students, and the school doesn't do anything about student problems until it's brought up multiple times. The school staff will get mad at you for standing up for yourself, if you're getting bullied you can't do anything and have to deal with it.

Extremely poor communication. We never know what's going on. PowerSchool essentially excuses the Teacher from having real conversations with parents. There is no follow up or support for students. There is nothing creative happening in the school to motivate or inspire the kids. Read the test scores for 8th graders at this school. It's abhorrent. Not one teacher is a stand out, a mentor, an awesome inspiration... nope. Paycheck collectors. Going from Voyager to this school was a shocking disappointment.
