Phoenix has been a great choice for my kids. We have been at Phoenix for 4 years. There have been growing pains since they have switched to NHA. Having to hold the school to a higher standard has been hard but in the end it will be great. The new Math and ELA programs are a big step up from previous curriculum. I originally thought they were too hard, however my younger who was struggling last year is thriving this year. My oldest is doing the same thing. It is a choice school you do not have to be there if you don't want to. It's a charter school and rely on parent involvement. The more you are involved in the school the more you will get out of it as a family. Both buildings know who I am and it's nice to know that they care enough to remember.

I feel obliged to warn other parents away from this school. There were certainly students who fared ok, but my students were terrorized by their teachers (multiple grades), requiring both physical therapy to make up for the constant penalty removals of recess and lack of phys ed, the overuse of worksheets and homework, and movies as babysitters in lieu of library time. They punished harshly, screamed at the students (especially in K-2) every single time I was in the buildings, and caused one of my other students to need counseling due to fear of the school environment. My students did not learn bc they were constantly in fear mode, and they came out after 3 years with less knowledge than they had going in, as they had loved learning before attending here, and learned to hate it while they were there. Our experience was far from unusual, and though I spoke with Principles 30 times in a single year, and every other parent in one class contacted the principle abt one of the teachers, they did absolutely nothing about the teacher’s harshness. The next year we went through a similar experience with another teacher, and the newly assigned principle refused to work with me, stating she had an administration to run, and hung up. My students’ mental and physical health were never a priority, even though I repeatedly presented scientific evidence that learning could be made up but emotional responses to negative school experiences take 3 years to overcome, minimally. This place is the worst school experience I have ever encountered, and my students had a hard time keeping friends, bc parent after parent pulled their children out due to issues with the school and it’s teachers, policies, and awful administration practices (not student bullying or anything else). This school was all about fundraising and teaching for a test, stressing out the student, and made a full-time job out of managing my children’s school experience. Their best year was during COVID, when everything was recorded and published online, and they couldn’t get away with bullying and intimidating students into compliance. I can’t warn people away from this school enough. The amazing front desk folks and a few sweet teachers & teacher helpers were the only things redeemable about this school. I hope NHA takes a serious look at this place and rebuilds it from scratch, with all new administrators, a ton of fresh teachers, and a whopping dose of accountability to avoid hurting more children.

I have had children attending this school for 8 years. I loved the school, but then I started to notice more and more problems. If you have a child who needs an IEP DO NOT send them to Phoenix Academy. They do not follow them, do not provide support needed, have been giving my child work far above their level without even teaching the basics. Your input does not matter. Although they will try their hardest to make it appear it does. There are a lot of teachers who spend most of the day screaming at students and nothing is done about it. Some years my kids had AMAZING teachers, other years it's been awful and a major chore just to get them to attend school. The music teacher alone has made so many students cry and told my kids class "your parents do not love you," because they were wearing short sleeve shirts on a day when it was over 70 degrees! When teachers are being bullied by administration it's not so surprising though that some turn around and behave the way they do. It seems all of the best teachers don't stay very long. I know far too many parents that have pulled their child(ren) from this school due to an array of problems. Plenty of students do very well at this school, but I've heard that as soon as the switch schools they're far behind. Switching schools ultimately becomes necessary because they do not currently have space for all grade levels, there's no telling how long it'll take before they expand further. They just keep cramming more kids per classroom since they don't have building space to accommodate. Ultimately there are better school options.

So I wanted to love this school I REALLY did. The teachers are pretty good but if you have a special needs child beware that their EC department is a JOKE the LEA rep is dishonest and rude and lacks people skills. IEPS are not handled the way that they should be and getting consistent help for your learning disabled child is next to impossible. We will be taking our child out next school year they are NOT equipped with the amount of resources expertise or staff needed to ensure your special needs child actually learns! They boast small class sizes but the only thing small about them is the actual rooms themselves my kid is in class with over 20 kids! My kid says the teacher yells at her students for talking and it scares my child. I’d rather pay for my child to get the help they need and are entitled to under IDEA than to continue to trust people who don’t really have my child’s best interest at heart!

Best school you could ever have your child in! The staff and teachers actually care about the well being of their students!

BEATS PUBLIC SCHOOL BY A MILE!!! We had a horrible experience when my son went to Pilot Elementary for 1st grade. I wanted to get him out of public school, but I couldn't afford private. I was so happy when his name was picked to go to Phoenix. This was like a breath of fresh air. My son is shy and he was bullied really bad at Pilot. Thankfully, there is no bullying at Phoenix, because they have a no tolerance policy. He is going into 8th grade now. Last year, he had a bad accident and was out of school a lot because of his surgery and many physical therapy appointments. All of his teachers worked together to help him pass. No public school would ever do that. I'm so grateful for this wonderful school. If you are not sure about sending your kids here, you can rest assured that you are making the right decision. Overall, most of the teachers are great. You will find bad seeds in every school, you just can't avoid that. I've been very impressed by this school and I only hope they will start a High School.

I am so proud of our school! The program honoring veterans last night was fantastic and incredibly inspiring. As a teacher who began her career in 1976, I have worked in many schools over the years. This is the first school I have served that undertook the time, energy and commitment required to recognize our veterans. What a wonderful example for other schools! What a special message we gave to our students regarding the importance of honoring those who deserve our greatest thanks!I loved the flag made completely out of K-8 hand tracings, thereby ensuring that every student contributed to our celebration. I appreciated the continuously running video of veteran photos supplied by Phoenix families. Thank you to the Boy Scouts for their flag presentation. Most of all, I cherished the music provided by our second graders, the middle school chorus, band and orchestra. Highlights included the second graders’ rendition of all the military anthems. When the veterans stood for their military branch and program attendees cheered, we felt a bond of pride and patriotism. The National Anthem at the end of the program capped off a beautiful evening. Kudos to all who made our tribute to veterans possible!

Overall I have been very satisfied with Phoenix!

Terrible, since it was an event to honor vets, looks like they would have enough common sense to look up flag protocol.

We drive 35 minutes to get our kids to this school. The education is fantastic. We have paid for private education in the past and what our kids receive here is better than anything we have paid for. Highly recommend this school!

Phoenix Academy is an excellent school and has been a blessing to my family ! My kids have learned and grown so much here! We have tried public school in the past, but this school is so much better! My children feel very safe here and the other students are very welcoming to the new students. My children are both excelling academically, and the teachers truly care about each child. I also love the fact that it is a peanut free school, as my son has severe nut allergies and the school staff has done an amazing job keeping him safe! Hoping Phoenix will start their high school program very soon so my kids can continue here through 12th grade.

We love the school. Staff and teachers are wonderful. For me teachers are key, they are the heart and soul of the school and they have been absolutely amazing so far. One of my main concerns was the teachers turnover and I think the administration is doing a much better job taking care of the teachers and that’s something that has improved a lot. The school is wonderful!

Excellent, I really like the school, and I am glad they exist, since when the county did its re-districting my home was moved from southwest schools to ferndale/high point central. Which is maddening considering we are 5 minutes from southwest, but an hour bus ride from high point central! It also dropped my home value about $20k grrrAnyway, i PRAY they re-instate their high school, right now they are going to add 9th grade back, but we really need them to keep going to 12th grade so we dont have to either homeschool or go bankrupt paying for private school. No way will my kids go to high point central...

Very pleased with the level of learning and education my child receives from this school. I have noticed a huge improvement on my child's grades, self esteem, and ability to problem solve. I only wish I had enrolled my child there sooner. Teachers and staff are wonderful! Lots of fun activities throughout the school year and the teachers make learning fun and interesting for the kids.

Phoenix Academy is a great place to send your child! The teachers work hard to make sure all the academics are being taught even with all the learning differences they may have in their classroom. Phoenix Academy also uses positive behavior in the classroom which helps every student soar and thrive to do their best. Also, administration works closely with the staff to make sure requirements are being met by the teachers. No school is perfect but Phoenix is a lovely, awesome school to send your child! You will not be disappointed! Your child will grow, learn and become successful!
