We chose the right school for our son and highly recommend Florence to everyone.

Had the opportunity to move away but chose to stay in part due to this school. Having our child learn in a environment with children from different backgrounds, socio-economic status and family structures is invaluable to making a well rounded student-citizen. Florence provides this kind of atmosphere. And sure, the buildings are aging and the playground is not the newest, but the staff and teachers are doing a great job.

If I would like the possibility of my child being kidnapped then this is the school for it. They have no appropriate car rider signs, and anyone can go to staple and buy the construction paper. It seems like they are asking for a lawsuit with how little of an effort they make to have appropriate paperwork to allow family members access if needed. Everything is done on plain white paper.

Average staff and administration. Ineffective and insincere guidance counselor. Older buildings that are not maintained well. Lax security procedures and rude office staff.. Middle of the road all the way, test scores aren't the only thing you should be looking at.. If your child qualifies for AG or EC they will be alright, otherwise good luck!

This is a really good school. They average EOG scores are well above the guilford county average. My daughter has attended there K-5 and graduates to SW middle next year and I feel she will be well prepared, I also have a son in 1st grade currently and he has learned alot. The teachers there are easily accessible and care about their students. Mr. MAC 5th grade math is excellent having multiple parent seminars on the new common cores standards where he takes 90mins. to teach the parents what the kids are learning so we can assist them in homework and learning the new prosedures. He will also answer ANY questions about it. From the principal Teddy W on down I highly regard this staff and their efforts to educate our children. Thank you all...

We moved cross country and had our choice of schools and districts in the Triad area - but based on reviews and feedback I received from the PTA - we chose to land in the zone for Florence so our 4th grader could have the excellent experience so many other parents raved about - and I'm so glad we did! The office staff, administration and teachers have been warm and welcoming and have gone out of their way to welcome us. The PTA is huge, and a valued and integral part of the school community (which speaks highly of the staff at FES and how much they value parental involvement). My daughter is getting opportunities that we wouldn't have imagined her having at this age and only 2 months into school is already involved in 2 extra-curricular activities through FES. The ONLY reason I didn't give FES a 5 star rating is the fact that it's a large school (we came from a school about half it's size) and unfortunately when there are that many children there are some things that just can't be "ideal" - for instance there are a lot of rules at FES - but they're necessary to keep that many children productive and they don't inhibit kids' well being or development.

My daughter had a fantastic experience at Florence elementary and especially with her first grade teacher, Mrs. York. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the school is very well kept! The PTA here was also the most involved and had an enormous amount of activities for the community and families of anywhere I've lived!

My fiance, daughter and I moved to the area in December 2010. My daughter started in Kindergarted since her birthday was just past the cut off. Her teacher did a GREAT job of helping her adjust to the move and new environment. After a few weeks and some testing, she was moved to first grade. Again, her teacher helped her in every way. We were always welcome to watch or participate and we were kept informed of everything going on when we couldn't. The teachers and staff helped what was a difficult situation become a great experience for my daughter. VERY HAPPY!!!!
