There is little to no parent updates or involvement. No idea what your kid is learning or how they are learning it is impossible to help with homework, WHICH THEY HAVE EVERY WEEKDAY! 5th grade teachers do not update parents in any way shape or form. Then you get a report card and finally have an update but then it is too late to address the issue. The 5th grade teachers also do not handle discipline, bullying, or discrimination well. Parents have to keep emailing/texting to get results. Punishment is running laps. Gym teacher is awful not willing to listen and sympathize with some without an athletic body or abilities. The school does not keep the kids safe from COVID. They do not sanitize desks or cafeteria before new students come in to use them. The school is very poor with leaking roofs, broken bathroom doors, and broken air conditioners. We actually got a recording from the principal saying the broken AC is because taxpayers didn't vote for money to go to the school. There is always a "not our fault" attitude when so.many things are within their control! You also get so many public announcements calling your phone from the county and it is usually nothing to do with Jamestown or your child. The school itself is old and needs to be updated. Having to put kids in trailers is rediculous. Do not send your child here unless you want no updates and don't care how your kids is doing. I have overheard teachers talking about other parents, just as the other post stated. There is also someone who smokes pot in the driveline. Rediculous!

This school is good for the average student. They have a lot of incentives for those who are doing well, and the teachers are really well versed in their respective subjects. For above average and below average students, however, it could be a bit difficult or too easy with the limited resources. I give this 4/5. Go here if you like an excited, ready to learn environment.

Our experience at Jamestown Elementary has been wonderful. The teachers are warm and communicative. The Principal, Mr. Jordan, knows students by name and is active and engaged. The building is kept so clean that it doesn’t even smell like an elementary school (added bonus). Good things are happening at this school!

I personally feel this could be a good school, but the teachers have really caused a negative perception of Jamestown Elementary School. On the surface they appear to be professional but you discover that they are unprofessional and have very petty ways. I have noticed, that if they perceive you in a certain way, they will bad mouth you to other teachers, having them believe their assumptions about you, causing other faculty members to have negative perceptions of you as well. This would be enough on its own, but you have some of the staff that will do things intentionally to make you feel a certain way, to entertain themselves or have something else to say about you, because they think you feel or think a certain way. It is disheartening because the judgement that is placed on an individual (parent), due to the ignorance of certain staff members causes great discomfort and lack of respect & belief in the teachers at this school. These teachers are very disappointing and should not antagonize parents or put their negative perceptions on a parent, without getting to know them. None of these teachers have gotten to know me, but they have made it a point to paint me in a negative light. I honestly don't understand the logic or rationale for this, but I really hope this improves to create a more positive parent teacher experience for the benefit of our children. No one wants to walk into a school and feel unwelcomed, uncomfortable and lack of respect from staff.

I LOVE this school! The teachers are wonderful & we’ve had such a great experience. I’ve had all 3 of my children here and it’s been a wonderful diverse community. I’ve had a child struggle & receive help, I’ve had a child excel & was challenged. This is a great community & a great place to volunteer & get involved.

When some of us parent found that the male principal . was the new principal we got a little nervous. he made a bad rep for himself in halifax county. he harassed alot of the female teachers there and under his supervision he was dated a teacher he hired. once everyone found out they immediately moved her. then i was told that he married her quick. the district wanted him out of their schools and that is why he ended up here. my husband and i immediately moved our children out of this school. we did not want to have someone like him leading our schools. If they hire principals like this they will hire any one.

Jamestown has a feeling of community. The teachers truly care about the students. With the new principal, I believe major improvements will happen at Jamestown. The principal is fair. He treats teachers, parents and students with respect. Jamestown is behind in technology and analyzing data and the principal is working hard on making those changes. I have been pleased with the teachers my child has had.

This school is not where you want to send your kids. Echoing the other reviews, there are issues from the top (principal) down to even the PTA. disappointing, and no one who can do anything will do anything.

The areas I am rating as a 1 star-- Teacher quality-I have found the ones we've had to be lacking in discipline and class control. They have each had varying levels of disorganization that I have no appreciation for one bit. Principal leadership-or the lack thereof, it is just pitiful. Parent involvement-I have tried to volunteer for two years and I have only been called one time EVER. The other parent I volunteered with was so brash and gross, she made me uncomfortable--she was in the kids faces, making sarcastic comments TO the kids and ABOUT the kids-totally inappropriate. The PTA seems lackluster. Everything about this school is stupid. I hate it. Send your kids to magnet school if you can--this school will make you crazy. Not a good experience!

I wish there was a way to give this school a negative score. The leadership here is NON-EXISTENT. Ms. Fleming is aloof, acts silly and would rather be a friend to the students than to lead with professionalism and distinction. I am so disappointed in her leadership style and have seen a dramatic decline since the vice principal position has been eliminated. I assume that the vice principal was able to hold Fleming accountable, and now that is not happening. The principal's inability to lead is very evident and reflected in the inept school staff. From most of the office workers to the teachers even to the cafeteria workers-we have experienced an inexcusable and inordinate amount of chaotic behavior-from employees and students. It is a travesty and makes me ANGRY that not only are heinous amounts of tax dollars are wasted, but children's precious years are being wasted and can never be recovered! It is a shame and no one who can do anything will do anything to fix this. It is truly disgusting. Fleming really needs to be replaced. The end.

I love Jamestown and have been at this school since April 2012. My twins have made quite a lot of progress in work and study habits. Teachers are very responsive to each childs needs and try to taylor lessons plays to what they have the ability to do. With the loss of my husband last year, all of the teachers and staff have really helped us all through a difficult. They have really watched over the boys and have just been great. I would recommend Jamestown Elementary to anyone who is moving to the Jamestown area. Great sense of community pride and pride in our children.
