This school was not much caring. When was in third grade, one of my friends was being slapped and scratched by 1st graders running a lap around the small field. The staff did nothing about this. I would not recommend going to this school. If you are zoned, find somewhere else. twitchell is a better option!

I have had two children attend this school K-5. I had older children that attended several other schools in the valley. In retrospect Vanderburg is an amazing school beyond just academics. This community is extremely supportive and positive towards social and academic growth. We loved most of the teachers and other staff members at this school. This school does a lot of fun activities outside just classroom work. Not every school is perfect and we had some bullying issues, but the teachers and staff really did everything they could to correct the situation. 90% of the teachers we had were not only qualified but beyond qualified with amazing empathetic qualities. I did say 90% because yes we did have a couple of teachers we did not find as a good fit for our child/children. Nothing horrible but just not as amazing as some of the outstanding staff that is there.

Exceptional experience. It’s not easy; to succeed you (Parent) must be a part of the educational process.

Flat out AWFUL! It’s a shame because the school could have potential.

Terrible. Do not recommend. I would send my children to a charter school over this school if I had the opportunity again.

The school used to be fabulous from what I was told. I have yet to see it. I had my kids in private and unfortunately that is the way to go!

Truly an amazing school. We feel so lucky that it’s so great and public! We moved into the area so we could take advantage of the awesome public schools like Vanderburg

This school is full of administrators that bully and harass the parents. The principal actually had the audacity to shame me in the office in front of other parents and staff because I was 12 minutes late to pick up my child. The other staff got in on it too, nodding their heads. I have never been treated like this by any public school staff in over 20 years in the public schools in other states. This behavior is unacceptable.

This school has been a total nightmare for my children. They have learned nothing. The principle is only concerned about test scores. She doesn’t care if you have a problem. She won’t even call when she’s made aware of serious issues or concerns. If your child doesn’t learn quickly or the same as everyone else, they move on. They don’t offer help to this student. Class size is ridiculous. The teachers are overwhelmed and don’t have any teacher assistance. I have witnessed some serious screaming coming out of classrooms. I’ve said things about it to other teachers. The teachers state that administration has been made aware of it. They don’t care. Unless your student is a genius and has heaps of confidence, don’t send them to Vandenberg. Look past that five star rating. It’s smoke and mirrors. The kids and teachers are unhappy. With the exception of their friends, my kids hate this school. It’s getting worse and worse every day. They never stop asking for money either. We (the parents) paid for 2 teachers out of our pockets last year so we wouldn’t lose them. We were told our class sizes would go up exponentially if we didn’t do it. This school is terribly mismanaged. The only thing that keeps it alive is the parent’s money and the parents volunteering for each teacher. I can’t wait to move out of this area so we can ditch this place.

I couldn’t ask for a better elementary school for my girls! They have loved every teacher they have had so far and the principal and vice principal are AMAZING!! It will be very sad to leave for middle school!!!

Terrible for kids with disabilities, no compassion or respect: they are treated like a threat to their pristine reputation. Shame shame shame on the principle and assistant principal for the way they treat kids with autism and learning disabilities

As a parent who comes from the East Coast, and attended NYU in NYC, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of education both of my children received at Vanderburg. I couldn't have expected had we elected to move to CT instead of Henderson. Excellent community and opportunity to get involved.

Used to be a wonderful school. The admin has let it slide to top 30 in the county.

We just moved here and everything about this school makes me sick. Parent pick up and drop off is dangerous. the pta moms are snotty and rude. The homework is out of control. It makes my children unhappy to be here. I am so happy with the move the school is the worst part of living here. They care about their rating not your kids

Our child is currently in First Grade. It is a wonderful school and the teacher is great! They are very focused towards each child's growth and development.

Our child attended this school for one year (2nd grade) when we moved to Henderson from out of state. My child went from loving school to not wanting to go to school almost every morning, and I credit this change to the school environment. There is no sense of community, and the teachers seem to have a really tough time connecting emotionally with the students (which is an important aspect of their development at a young age). I volunteered weekly in my child's classroom, and the office staff always -without fail- acted as if I was a great inconvenience to them because they had to unlock the door for me to enter the building. In addition, the only job I was assigned when volunteering was always making copies for the class. I would have enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to be involved in the classroom in some way as a way to be part of the school community and of my child's learning experiences. We remained at the school for one year only before enrolling our child at a private school.

The principal thinks her school is the best of the best, everything she says is right, and you are wrong. But that is not true, my child got hurt many times on the playground, we I asked why, no one knows because no teachers are watching the kids when they're playing outside. My child's kindergartner teacher treated all the kids like they were middle school students, you talk you got notice (yellow, red). The kids play hard by accident hurt each other, they get a citation, with no chance for the parents to speak up, because principal and teacher are always right.

If you want your kids to hate school and look at it as a chore then Vanderburg is for you. My child's is in the second grade and his teacher is beyond unprofessional. She has no handle on her class, plays favorites, is very unorganized, unfocused. My child's teacher is unfit to be teaching 2nd graders.

Love this school and the teachers. Love their leader in me program which helps develop skills in children to become leaders. It has been a great self confidence booster for my son.
