Remember before you enroll your child at Caprock Caprock Academy that it is a SCHOOL OF CHOICE !Caprock is a top school that pushes students to succeed. My son has thrived there since kindergarten, now in his 5th year. We worked together daily at home to ensure he excels academically. It's important for parents to be involved in their child's education, not just relying on the school. Children benefit from learning at home and at school. Let's continue supporting our kids to help them reach their full potential.

Its not the kids bullying, its the teachers. I'm in 9th grade now and I go to GJHS but when I did elementary school here, it was horrible. My teachers gave me a C- in reading because of one question I got wrong. Like I get it strict is good but y'all are becoming tyrants. The dress code is atrocious. I had no problem following the dress code, but I got suspended for a day because I had a small yellow stripe on my shoes. Like come on...really? Yeah, send your kids here if you have good money and good, smart kids, but don't send them here if they want to be a kid for the time they have. Let kids be kids. Discipline them yeah, but let them have fun, let them wear cute shoes. Obviously don't send your kids to school in like a gang shirt, but at LEAST let them have some design on their backpack. Also, something that was totally ridiculous, I got sent home because I had dark blue nails. Nails?! Yall got to be kidding. Don't even get me started on the fact that you have to EARN lunch with your friends.

Teachers bullied my kids. They outcasted us as parents. They made me buy new shoes every 2 weeks. They won't let you talk to your kids the second they step foot out of your car. Yell at the parents in drop off line. Won't let you help your kid in and out of the car. Switching my kids to a public school my kids have fallen behind academically from being at Caprock. And a lot of it is because the teachers wouldn't include them in class games that they let everyone else participate in except my kids. Or they said they would help my kids work on things and we would create a plan of action that they never followed through with. This is a sad excuse for a school. It needs to be revamped or it needs shut down. This school almost ruined school for my kids for good. They asked me everyday they went to Caprock if they could not go to school. They were miserable there! Made us really appreciate the new school they go to. My kids actually want to go to school since they switched from Caprock. Just a group of bad teachers. I'd also really like to call all of the teachers out by name, by then you probably wouldn't accept my post. But in general from k-4th and the PE teacher for those grades have done nothing but hinder my children's education. I won't stop leaving review or talking about Caprock until something is done about them. We might be out of that school, but I'll continue seeking someone to spark an investigation on them! They need it!

Caprock Academy is an exceptional K-12 institution. With four children, two having graduated and two currently in high school, I can confidently say that Caprock has equipped them for both college and life beyond. The faculty at Caprock Academy epitomize qualities of love, care, effectiveness, professionalism, and strong educational backgrounds. My children not only feel secure within the school's environment but also cherish the intimate atmosphere of a smaller school setting.

I'm a current student and have been here for 9 years. The teachers are rude and don't do anything about bullying. The staff over all is just not good. I'm a sped student and it took 7 years for then to consider giving me amd rti or 504. This school is not the place to send your kids

I have been with this school for 11 years and I plan to finish here, but this school has given my fellow students and I the worst situations in order to deal with the stresses of college. Yes, this school does prepare students for the amount of work in college, but reading 10+ books a year, completing a National History Day project, and struggling through math and science classes are unnecessary for high school students to go through. While elementary and middle school students have a typically good education here, high school students barely have good lives outside and inside of school, because all they have time for is to worry about school. Between excessive amounts of busy work (i.e. yearly theses ranging from 5 to 25 pages on topics like "What is the good life?") and insurmountable extra-curriculars (plenty of my friends do several sports throughout the year), students here can compare to those of college students, something a 16 year old shouldn't worry about yet. But, Caprock Academy forces all high school students to crumble and suffer under all this stress, and all for a high school dimploma. In addition, we bring up our issues with our methods ranging from complaining to administrative action, and what is done? Nothing. Yep, either by straight up rejection and oppression from teachers or by wishy-washy administration, action to have things done "The Caprock Way" (just do the work and follow our rules, no exceptions) leads to high toxicity between staff and students. Frankly, this school is infuriating to deal with, and I am ashamed to be a part of this life-stifling school. You want to follow your own path? Try public school, they have more options and will let you live a good life.

Many of these reviews say that Caprock is not for everyone… so true… it’s only for kids from conservative families who are good with English and History. The school is greatly lacking in technology, science, and math. Their rules are extremely rigid and outdated. There is no love of learning… it’s a love of rules. They have a high turnover of teachers. And seem to always be in a power struggle with students and parents. So… if your kid does well in a super strict environment and loves reading, writing, and history this may be the school for you. But if not check out some of the other schools in the valley such as New Emerson, Dual Immersion Academy, and Juniper Ridge.

It has been a great school with caring teachers for my kids. They have a strong focus on classical education and character development. It is true is not for everyone. If you don't like it or don't believe it is for you, I recommend you try a different school.

My children have been going here since kinder and now in middle school. Yes there is bullying but where is there none nowadays. I do like how the teachers handle it and that the kids grow up with each other. My kids have known some of their classmates from kinder and they become like siblings and I know siblings fight. Most teachers are great with communication and respond quickly! I love the new admin and their rules they have been implementing to improve bullying and acting out. The work load is high but if you don't procrastinate then it is extremely doable. If you fall behind or are having trouble with a subject, the teachers have helped me learn it so I can help my child. The "pta" has events for the family and parent involvement sounds scarier than it is. You can cut paper or do things at home, shop and drop it at the school and get that as volunteer hours. The school also sends 8th graders to d.c. for a fun learning experience and another trip in high school to Italy! I believe it is in first grade where they take a field trip to the library and they get their own library card. It's super cute! I love how accommodating they are and their 504/IEP plans are the most accommodating in town from what I've been told from parents with kids at other schools. I recommend this school but only if you are going to put in the work. They have a high graduation rate for a reason.

This school is not for minorities. My son is in elementary and was teased by his classmates' numerous times in which nothing was done. Kids not only teased him but also pushed him in which he defended himself by pushing back. All of a sudden, teachers never see when kids tease him or push him but somehow always manage to see when my son defends himself. The school not only suspended my son but failed to take any disciplinary actions against the other students that initiated the incident. Some of the staff at this school is highly prejudice. They are very quick to taint a child's record rather than help them. I would not recommend this school to anyone at all. It is not the best charter school in Grand Junction. There are also a couple other students experiencing bullying and prejudice actions taken towards them.

This school, while excellent in terms of English and humanities, had totally failed to prepare me for higher education. As an alumni, I had recognized that I was far behind from others in college in terms of useful credits, academic skills and values. Teachers were often inexperienced and were frequently replaced. Those that stuck around often enjoyed making power plays on students with valid opinions. It was also hard to ignore that this institution pushed a prominent political agenda. Thinking retrospectively, I should have never tolerated teachers that ranted about political correctness and used F-slurs and N-words in class. If you don't want your students to become ignorant, self entitled and tone deaf individuals, don't send them to this school.

Head of school is not a good leader. He will listen to your problems, however, actively will not try to solve them. The staff do not respect him. He personally doesn't respect parents. He said he has two master degrees so parents cannot tell him what to teach in the classroom. The teachers are hit and miss. There are some great inspirational ones. Then their are ones that will not even do the basics. The administration do not hold these teacher accountable for their actions. There has been a high turn over rate of staff since the new head master was hired.

Although Caprock is definitely not the right school for everyone, I personally have had a great, structured and positive experience here. I am very confident in the quality of my education. Since Caprock is smaller, it provides opportunities to get to know all of your teachers personally. There are a few things that I don't like such as homework pile up and some teachers that I'm not a fan of. We do have a large homework load. In my experience if it is unmanageable it is because of procrastination but it is a doable amount. It teaches you how to meet deadlines and work in a timely way. If it really is too much teachers are good about being flexible. After years and years, school uniforms become second nature, I don't mind wearing one at all. What really completes this school is the relationships you build with classmates you've known since forever and teachers who care. I appreciate that we've loosened up slightly. I certainly don't miss the "Old Caprock" that was so bent over backwards with rules. With our Administration, we've come a long way in a good direction in the last four years and I'm excited for the next two.

Exceptional for academics and college prep, as well as close sense of community among students. K-12 supports ease of transition from elem to middle school to high school. Have had no issues with bullying. Highly involved parents and staff along with relatively small student body.

We have been at Caprock going on 3 years now, and while there is always room from improvement the bottom line is that the teachers and staff care a great deal about their school and kids and put in a lot of effort and work.

I have attended at caprock for 9 years now, and through the process of getting up to go to school for 8 hours then coming home to do 4 more hours of homework I noticed that I didn't have a social life. I was stuck at home filling in the deadlines that were given to me by my teacher (who by the way shouldn't even qualify to be teachers) or else 50% of my grade would automatically be taken off. I also feel that we have been rushed in school just so that the grade book can be filled out, instead of taking time and understanding the concept. The headmaster, sorry excuse me I meant HEADMISTRESS TREZISE, creates biased opinions on the students that are expressed to often, this goes for almost every teacher in this school. I get that some biased opinions needs to be expressed, but there is a line between enough and way to far. I would not recommend allowing your child to go to caprock, unless you want your kido to have no social life, character expression, creativity, or just wanting them to go home and play outside with their friends. When one person in the classroom is called out by a teacher, and gets in trouble the whole class gets in trouble. Such as walking laps around the field, or practicing our "straight caprock lines." Or when the high school lost the "privilege" to drinking liquids other that water for a semester just because a small group of students made a bad decision of bringing a liquid that shouldn't be brought to school. Caprock is the type of school that will do anything they can to show that the administration has the power. Many things are screwed up with this school. Pros:Curriculum No bullying Cons: No social life No creativity Teachers do not qualify Expected to act as everyone else Uniforms 50% off when something is late Administration Lack of teachers & funding Expected to act grownup Headmistress 2hr+ homework everyday 30 minutes for lunch and recessBias teachers To what I see there are more cons then pros, and this is why I will be leaving caprock next year. I do not recommend coming to caprock!

Caprock is a Great Charter School. This is our 2nd year here at Caprock. I love the ability groups for literacy and math. My kids have learned so much in the last year and a quarter. I love that there is no early release and that Teachers teach during Parent Teacher Conference times and don't close the school down for it. I like the Mon thru Thursday weeks and early hours make childcare much easier. We can drop kids off at 7:15am which is great! My daughter was reading in kindergarten and is now excelling in 1st grade. My 5th grader is writing essays and I am so thankful for this school. The only sad part is there is no hot breakfast or lunch program and not much playground equipment.
