This school is actually kinda good. I've always had a passion for music and now it just grew. My choir teacher and everyone in music here is so wonderful. I would say I'm not necessarily close with any teachers but they definitely teach well. Like I'm understanding the work and stuff. The principal is cool, he helps out. Its the assistant principals that bother me. I just feel like they have no care for how sensitive kids can be sometimes and how they only yell at the school for being bad. Like, can we get a positive report? Overall I like it.

We were very pleasantly surprised by GJHS. We were nervous about high school, but the teachers really seem to care, the counselors are ready and willing to help give guidance, and there are a plethora of academic, social, and extracurricular opportunities, as long as you and your child are willing to look into them. We have also been very impressed with the amount of concurrent college opportunities available. Students are expected to follow-through with their assignment and late work, but that should be expected at this age. I've heard parents complain that teachers don't remind the kids or parents. They shouldn't have to at this point in the kid's development. The students have 1 person to be responsible for, while the teachers have over a hundred students. There is the good and bad within every organization or group of humans, but GJHS is a good school.

A very high percentage of the students that graduate are not college ready. The most important focus is not academics but the struggling athletic programs. Some teachers are very caring and will respond to concerns immediately. Others never respond and you have to talk to the administrator to get feedback. Some counselors are very helpful and others are flaky. A great deal of bullying, drugs and fighting goes on (especially in the cafeteria and there is no teacher supervision). All students are allowed to eat off campus which means that there is absolutely no supervision during lunch time and this is when most of the problems occur.

We have been there 4 years, through former and new principals. I have found that kids that are high performing and popular will do fine. You will see the same kids get recognized over and over. There is no support for the average student that starts to struggle. Head in the sand is their motto. Teachers and administration seem overly focused on extreme behavior issues and offer no encouragement for average to below average students that have not acted out. They are quick to let students make decisions (not necessarily a bad thing), but do nothing to hold them accountable or encourage higher performance. Late work is perfectly acceptable (I am sure this helps the school look better) and with the exception of one class there was never repercussion. I have repeatedly asked for help for my student only to get ignored.

Don't let your children go to this school! Bullying is the norm and nothing is done by the administration. Horrible school!
