As a public school teacher, I never imagined sending my children to private school. However, now I know why so many of my colleagues do. I personally love the small class sizes and after school sports/activities offered throughout the school year. Both of my children absolutely love their teachers and classmates. The administration and Father Fonti are always there to greet the students in the morning and know ALL of their names. My son has an IEP and is entitled to speech therapy three times a week. His CPSE coordinator claimed that they didn’t have anyone available to go to his school so I reached out to admin at St. Mel’s. The admin went above and beyond to find a speech teacher for my son. I’m so blessed that my children are at a place that cares about their academic as well as their social-emotional growth like St. Mel’s. Go Wildcats!

My son just started Kindergarten here last month and...HE LOVES IT. Every day he says that it school was "great." The teachers, principal, and pastor and all warm and wonderful. Plus, he is actually IN school 5 days per week...his charter school wanted him fully remote.

When I attended this school the teachers were bottom of the barell. What a tremendously bad experience 4th to 8th grade was.

This is my child's second year at St. Mel's. While our first year here was filled with several large changes that disrupted the student body, this year has been nothing but a joy. The school has implemented so many after school programs, they send out weekly newsletters, they are open to suggestions and ideas, they greet students and parents in the morning, they have a math coach in from Molloy College, the reading programs they have implemented, so many after school activities, I can go on. The most important critic in all of this is my child, and everyday I see her learning and happy!

i can't believe the lack of communication between the staff and parents.. as far as the teachers go - the teachers that are here and making a difference are being totally ignored. in all the years being here i've seen this school go downhill. i honestly don't see it lasting.... i would think about sending your child here

My experiences were not positive at this school. The best decision I ever made was to get my children out of here. They are learning so much more at their new school. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! You will find a better school where your children will learn, be safe, and not have to deal with negative social -emotional issues. Academics are lacking at this school as well. DO your research carefully about this school before even thinking about sending your child here. Do not be fooled.

St. Mel's Catholic Academy is the catholic educational establishment in the community that teaches our children what they need from an academic standard to being a respectful and caring human beings. While the first 2 months have been challenging, there is positive energy surrounding the changes that are being put in place. I am excited to see how St Mel's will blossom and strengthen its place in the Catholic and Academic Community.

Terrible. My kids have been bullied several times over the years and the school has failed to take any effective action in each case. On a few occasions, no action was taken by the previous principal, as, in reality, all he was was a stuffed suit.

I am a dedicated parent who is involved in various roles at the school. I am a parishioner for over 11 years. My children have been here since nursery they will be graduating in a couple of years. I am proud of the both of them. They both work very hard and are dedicated to their school and are passionate of their love for St Mels. I along with them have made life long friendships. God Bless St Mels ..

My experience at this school has not been positive nor has it been positive for my children. The "positive" comments show the negative climate at this school. When a review blames the child or parent for a negative experience and labels them the problem when a positive reviewer uses their review to spread more lies about a person, that should tell you all you need to know about this school's environment. It is just not a place where Catholic values are acted on.

don't expect this school to still be here 3 or for years from now. the teachers leave, the enrollment is so low because families run from here after a year or two. save yourself the trouble and just go somewheer - anywahere - else. what horrible people, what an awful place. there is only 1 class per grade. ask yourself why that it, when all the other catholic schools in the neighborhood have multiple classes per grade.

I have two children in St. Mel's - one in the older grades and one in the younger grades. Both of my children are thriving at St. Mel's academically, socially and spiritually. There are so many academic and sports programs that St. Mel's offers. The principal really cares for his students and the daily involvement of the parish's priests in our children's lives is wonderful. I feel the teachers really teach the kids to be independent thinkers.

Overall, I have been very unhappy with this school. I do not feel like my child has gotten what they should have from this school. The environment is not a very positive one socially or academically.

I have been very disappointed in this school. For a Catholic school, the individuals here do not practice what they preach. It is sad how awful people can be here and they like to act like it is the perfect school. Stay away.

Let me start by saying I volunteer at this school on a daily basis so I really see what goes on and I am extremely happy and satisfied that I chose this school for my child. My child has developed strong social skills, has a stand religious knowledge , and always makes 1st or 2nd honors. I believe that it a direct reflection on the teachers , principal, and staff. They are all very dedicated and love what they do.We have met amazing people here and I am happy and proud to be part of such a wonderful school.

avoid this school at all costs.ask yourself why they only have one class per grade, and why the rate of attrition of families fleeing this school over the past 5 years has been so high.ask the school how long the teachers have been teaching there. there are barely any teachers with more than 2 or 3 years teaching there because they all run from this school the second another opportunity comes along.families don't stay - they move on to St Luke's or somewhere else. teachers don't stay. the principle is basically just an empty suit in a chair.Avoid this school at all costs. it's horrific.but they'll tell you how great and wonderful they are.

Our experience with this school only 3 months in, is awful! My husband and I are so upset with the way issues are dealt with. Teachers and Principal lack to resolve issues. As for the other reviews regarding bullying in the school, its not far from the truth! I had one student threaten my child by stabbing her with a pencil. And another child, spitting on her! NOTHING WAS DONE! Yet, my child was the one who got written up for defending herself! When I addressed concerns to the teacher that simply could've been resolved by working together, the teacher kept brushing me off and advised me to speak to someone else, like a pediatrician. This school requires you to be "Virtus trained" in order to tag along on field trips or volunteer. Unless you do this training, YOU WILL BE TREATED LIKE A POTENTIAL PEDOPHILE! The parents and teachers at this school literally overact over this and make you feel like you’re not allowed to be near your own child! What on earth are you paying for here!!!!! Such a disappointment for a Christian school! My daughter complained to me about an issue she was having during recess. So I drove by to observe for myself. I was literally chased away by the volunteer staff like I was some kind of criminal! Safe to say, we are NOT returning next year! Stay away from this school! There are other competitive Catholic schools in the area with better if not, GREAT reputations! Don’t make same mistake we made, we decided to go here based on its affordability. I’d rather pay more for a quality school and education! I guess we got what we paid for!

Although there is a sense of community, the academics are lacking especially in the upper grades. My child has been repeatedly bullied at this school and nothing is ever done to effectively handle the situation. There is a major problem with bullying throughout the school. There are some very nice children who attend this school but unfortunately there are also some spoiled brats who think they can do whatever they please. The principal and staff fail to address certain issues perhaps due to monetary donations. This a great injustice to students and parents who want a safe learning environment. What are we paying for? I'm giving 2 stars for the sense of community among some of the families. If it wasn't for this, my rating would be 1 star.

It's the best. My kids have been at home since the day they started. I been in the school for 10 years now as a parent. Watched alot of great changes come our way. The children there are caring and kind and very smart. I couldn't of asked for any better. I was born and raised in Whitestone my whole life. I always thaught I was gonna move a little further away for a change. But st Mel's gave me all the reasons to stay. My theory In life is ,if your kids are happy and your wife is happy dont turn the page. I love what the school has done for my children. Thank you st Mel's.
