This school needs better staff members, even in the office. They discriminate against the students and at this point promotes violence. The principal and definitely the assistant principal plays a part in this. Most of DeKalb, IL school’s discriminate against students and I’ve witnessed it. This school is the first one that promoted violence along with the discrimination.

My experience at this school was awesome. My children entered from private school so I was concerned they would not be challenged enough. We experienced just the opposite the teachers were so attentive they "met them where they were and helped them improve their scores over the years. In my son's last year we had to transfer to Lincoln and he wept, his Tiger Pride is what willed him to excellence in his assignments. However, upon transferring my son was prejudge because of the stigma attached to this school. He was not challenged and became bored and disinterested. His teacher had never even checked his waaay above average scores. I miss Tyler...

Tyler school itself is very nice and its support staff is courteous, kind and accommodating and seems to genuinely care about the students. My issue is with my child's teacher in particular. There is a complete lack of communication. My child's teacher is sub-par, doesn't seem to care about her students, and is making no effort that I can discern to correct the egregious social and behavioral issues documented happening in class that include such gems as stabbing with pencils, inappropriate sexual behavior, spitting, and jumping on chairs. While my child maintains good grades, he was advanced coming into the school year and I feel as though he has learned nothing new, nor am I able to help him work on things he learns in class because his teacher refuses to send daily work home or outline what he is learning in class each week.I am going to make one final effort to resolve this with his teacher and administration in a joint meeting and if it cannot be satisfactorily resolved we will be home-schooling him from here on out.

This school is a lot better then i was expecting due to the low rating. So far it seems safe and the teachers are very interactive with the parents. I have twins attending kindergarten and I'm glad it is working out so well.

This is an awful school. All the other schools know if a student gets transferred from here it means they have alot of work to do catching this kid up. I work as an assistant at other schools and you should hear what the teachers say about this school. Its bad.
