Over the last few years class sizes continue to increase and students with disabilities are not having their needs met. The school administration is aloof and unapproachable. Bullying is rampant and students safety is a concern.. there are many school districts nearby that would be a much better choice.

I would be very concerned about moving to the community and sending my child to this school/district. Every administrative position in the district except one has had turnover in the last four years. This seemed to start when the a new superintendent was hired. The new principal is not approachable and is notorious for poor/lack of communication with parents. The superintendent is probably even worse in this regard. I know several other parents who have pulled their children out because of concerns, including safety.

The current principal is very personally invested in the success of the students. He communicates regularly with parents, and responds quickly to parent concerns. I have mixed feelings about the discipline and incentive plan that is in use, called the DMI Dozen. It seems to stifle student enthusiasm for school, and rigidly enforce certain behavior expectations. Many parents feel the punishments are not proportional to the infractions, and that the rules are inconsistently enforced by teachers. I also have concerns about the homework load, particularly in the 5th grade math and sciences. Last year my son regularly had 2-3 hours of homework a night, and ended most nights in tears of frustration. I have heard the same thing from multiple other parents, that they spent every evening re-teaching the math concepts. Thus far 6th grade seems much more well-balanced, with a more reasonable amount of homework.
