Great school with incredible teachers and staff.

My child goes to Abney and is currently in 4th grade. He is bullied regularly and their “not bullying policy” is a joke. They do NOTHING TO THE BULLY BUT INSTEAD they make my three boys all share one seat on the bus even though they did nothing wrong cause the assistant principal said “that bus is just to rough” to control. So instead of punishing the bullies they can’t control they punish my children and make it look as if they did wrong. His teacher told him to just staying “looking down” to prevent children from talking to him. I’m currently looking for a new place to move so we can be in a different school district.

My child used to love school and participate. Now my child cries every day, hates school and says that she/he is stupid. The use of force and verbal abuse is unacceptable!

Wonderful! We love our school. Despite the large size, the staff and students quickly become like family.

3 out 10. Two teachers in particular made my child’s experience at Abney amazing and I loved them to pieces and always will. However, because of our bullying issue that plagued us from 1st-3rd grade and was allowed to continue and get worse, I cannot rate this school with its terrible leadership any higher than a 3.

We have been very pleased with Abney. The staff, principals and teachers are amazing. Glad to be an Abney eagle. My son has had behavior issues and I have never been made to feel bad as a parent the principal and his teachers have went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure my son stays on track and gets the best education possible. My daughter in kindergarten had some learning issues her teacher caught it immediately and had her on track in no time at all. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this school.

I think this school has great teachers. They love the children and want them to succeed. My daughter made great academic strides here. However, the principal has a very arrogant air and is unapproachable. He stands in the foyer of the school in the mornings not smiling or greeting anyone. Even if you make direct eye contact with him. I'm not sure why he even comes out of his office. We were new to the school this year in kindergarten and he NEVER introduced himself, said hello or even so much as smiled at us. He should be working somewhere that he doesn't have to interact with people. Especially with children. He was the main reason why we transferred schools. I am a certified teacher and have worked with several principals so I have some experience interacting with them. This principal was the pits. They should replace him with a friendlier, more approachable one who at least makes you feel like he/she wants to be there. He was the worst.

We transferred out from out of state. The teachers and office staff made it very easy and comfortable for my child to transfer.

I think parents need to be more involved in their children education. My child was a straight A student in 1st & 2nd grade. Although this never effected her grades, I only had 1 issue and that was with a teacher missing too many days leaving a "sub from hell" in charge for the rest of the school year. I was able to state my concern and the immediately school took of that issue. They was able to move child to another class. My child first half of the year first grade teacher was good but the second half of the year teacher was even better. They do care about your children and will make things right. Just please be involved.

Abney needs to be socially and academically challenged. All I've gotten is excuses when I've made academic suggestions for improvement to my child's 5th grade teacher. Some of the work provided in the 5th grade wasn't challenging and will not prepare some kids for middle school. I think every school benefits when there is diversity among the staff. Abney and other schools in Paulding County have done a poor job in doing that. A child can't benefit when all of their teachers are close friends and won't speak out for something that they know is wrong. You have to be open in hiring people from your office staff to your teachers. It is unfair to just hire friends of your staff members especially if it's not going to ever yield diversity within your school. It's great that some parents within the school want to mention teachers names, but just keep in mind that all kids and parents at this school are not treated the same. Some kids are targeted for everything that they do. Some teachers are waiting on a chance to penalize for one simple mistake or mishap. It hard to educate a child who is constantly under pressure trying not to make a mistake. We want to hold every child accountable, however one single minor incident doesn't warrant a trip to the office unless you are just out to penalize that child. The office workers are the gateway to the school and they only make sure they speak to certain people. The only time they speak to me is when there are other parents are in the office. A few teachers here are biased. I'm not to fond of some of the administrators who don't hold their staff accountable and are quick to blame the students and/or their parents. Also, safety is important so I think some of the staff could do a better job of monitoring the kids towards the front of the car line in the morning instead of conversing. Nevertheless, there are some awesome teachers and other staff members here who go out of their way to make every child and parent feel welcomed! They work diligently with a positive attitude to educate every child. Please keep up the good work!

Overall a good school. Newly built. Clean. Safe. The biggest problem I see is the student to teacher ratio. My child is in 1st grade and the class size is about 25. There is no way a teacher can properly teach and maintain order in a class this large.

The school has really started to go downhill. Only a few really good teachers are still here. Bullying has picked up the last few years and teacher's kids get away with everything. The PTA consists of elitist snobs and their children are the one's that always win the awards. Just beware that everything isn't as wonderful as it seems.

My kids have been at Abney since they started Kindergarten; one will be moving up to middle school soon. We love, love, LOVE this school. The teachers and support staff are wonderful and caring. My children's teachers take the time to personalize the education that my child needs and they are willing to stay in communication with me. The administration is friendly and welcomes improptu visits and volunteering. Unlike other area schools, they appreciate it when parents want to be involved. I do not think we could have asked for a better school. We are so thankful for all of the staff at Abney!

I love Abney! The teachers are fantastic with the students. All of the staff and teachers are very friendly and make you feel welcomed at the school. The PTA is amazing. They are very involved in every aspect of the school. The administration team is very friendly and make the parents feel like they are part of the Abney family. I love this school and so does my kids.

I love Abney! It is like a 2nd home for our family. The staff has always gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that my children have gotten exactly what they need. The teacher really care about the students and the administration does as well. The PTA is very active and has free family events which welcomes all families. I wouldn't have my kids anywhere else.

The school administration seem to have done a good job this school year! Most of the staff are friendly and really dedicated to their profession of educating the kids and making the parents feel welcomed. A few of the assistant teachers and support staff weren't very cordial to my family. The staff should be professional and respectful at all times and their job isn't to distort the character of parents that they don't like. All of the staff must exhibit enough character to be able to communicate with every parent and not try to exclude any parents.

My family loves this school! All of the staff and teachers are very nice to everyone and my children's teachers are very invested in my children and their education. I couldn't have asked for a better place to send my kids.

Love this school! I transferred my daughter here because I did not like her other school, she loves it. Staff is friendly. Teachers are friendly. Principle is friendly. She is learning, making friends and she's happy. That makes us happy.
