We are a very proud Portage Park Elementary family. We have 2 kids enrolled and have enjoyed the quality of the lessons and assignments and the arts integrated approach to learning. The performing arts programming has been superb- especially dance and the spring festival of the arts! We are very lucky to have this school and Principal Wood in our neighborhood.

This school does not help children with learning differences and allows them to be teased, bullied, and cast out. They are horrible at actually challenging these students and are content to allow them to fall through the cracks. Additionally, children and physically violent with one another as young as 5th grade and teachers are either unable (because the administration will not allow intervention) or disinterested in taking action to prevent it. This school is a place you should only send your child as a last resort. Tragically, these children are so neglected. The City needs to invest more into schools like this so that the teachers and staff can provide for everyone the way I am sure they wish they could.

We love Portage Park Magnet school! Our third and first graders are so happy and learning so much in a welcoming warm environment. The teachers, principle, and families are wonderful. We feel so blessed to live so close to such a great school.

My experience at this school - wonderful! The teachers are really good, Absolutely the most amazing teacher is Mrs Broler - kindergarten. The principal is always walking outside the building after school. A lot of after or before school programs.

The school has done great things over the past few years to help the students be able to achieve whatever goal they set their minds to. The students are put first and the teachers and staff go above and beyond to do whatever they can help any student or parent.

The community at this school is great. Parents are very involved, leadership is committed to creating a atmosphere of respect for students, staff, and families. There is a lot of support for students.

We love this school. The community is strong and supportive. My child is receiving a solid, well-rounded education. While the school recently received designation of as a Fine and Performing Arts Magnet (yea!) it does a great job balancing STEM curriculum as well and using the arts to bring those themes to life.

I love our school! I'm so grateful to live close to such a wonderful neighborhood school where you feel like you are part of a family community. Everyone, parents, teachers, students etc are all so pleasant and friendly.

This neighborhood school is gem that the whole community can feel good about supporting. The programs are blossoming, ie Drama, Band, Portage Park Helping Hands, and parental involvement is gaining momentum. The staff is dedicated and professional.

Since the changes at the top, this school functions like a chicken with its head cut off...very disappointing.

Change is difficult, but many of the changes made at Portage Park have been for the better. Even with all the budget cuts, we did not lose any additional staff due to good planning. Students in upper grades were given autonomy surrounding their specials schedule and are now taking classes in areas of study in which they have an interest. (Things that can/will help them prepare for HS and beyond.) Teachers care about students. (Learning and general well being)
