It’s a small, Catholic, neighborhood school with reasonable tuition. But for its small size, it is a mighty educational power! Do you want to know how good this school is? Recent graduates have gone on to college at Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, Dartmouth, University of Chicago, the list goes on. That doesn’t happen without a premier academic foundation from the earliest years. My own children made lifelong friendships that continue into their young adulthood. The community there is beyond amazing.

I’ve had my 3 kids attend St Edward School in Chicago from pre-k3 to 8th grade…the experience was amazing and the teachers are above and beyond any expectations!! My oldest is going to be an early elementary teacher because of the teachers that taught her…thank you so much St Ed’s!!

I am the grandmother and an 40+ year educator. I am completely disgusted by the lack of compassion and care of the pre-school teacher. She is unkind, rigid and clearly does not support the social-emotion needs of her students Very sad...

Really welcoming community with involved parents and caring teachers. There has been some teacher turnover recently but the school has found good replacement teachers. We are there for the small class sizes and the overall positive school environment.

St Edward School has excellent academics and an amazing community of families. The teachers genuinely care about their students and work with them in small groups so each student can maximize their potential. In addition to Spanish, Art, Music and gym classes, the school offers a variety of after school activities, including athletics, music lessons/band/choir, theater, chess, and boy/girl scouts. As a bonus, we've become good friends with many families in the school community through the sports programs and social events. Our kids are so happy to be at this school and I'm thrilled with the valuable education they are receiving.

We highly recommend St. Edward Catholic School. We started with St Ed’s in 2020 and couldn’t be more pleased with how they handled the pandemic. Our kids have been in class since day one, and we feel St. Ed’s has taken every possible precaution to keep the students, faculty, and families safe. The level of academics is incredible. The smaller class size allows the teachers to dedicate time to each student and know their individual needs. Our kids have flourished in the past couple of years beyond our expectations. Their teachers are incredibly kind, warm, and caring, allowing us to feel comfortable knowing they are in a safe and loving environment. St Ed’s has gym, music, art, STEM, Spanish included in the curriculum. In addition, they offer many extracurricular sports, music, drama, chess, and many more. Their aftercare program is also a hit with our kids! Named “Creative Corner,” our kids enjoy their time after school doing homework with their peers and hanging out with creative play. The St Ed’s community is also warm and inviting. We have met so many great families and new friends! I also have to say this is something I didn’t realize was incredibly important when looking for a new school and community of friends.

St. Edward offers a great curriculum for our two children, currently 8th and 4th grade, but we love that our kids are learning so much more...how to be empathetic, compassionate, and loving to others. The staff highlight the good behaviors of students and therefore create a positive culture for students to learn.

We have been very pleased with our experience at St. Edward school over the past 10 years and love the new direction and opportunities we've been given with the new leadership over the last couple of years. St. Edward is a wonderful community and school to nurture young minds and good people whether they move on to Catholic or public high schools. We have kids that test into selective enrollment high schools every year.

St. Edward School has become a part of our family. When we started several years ago it was only going to be for preschool but we fell in love with the community and the way our kids learned, loved, and grew. The new principal Mrs. Lasica is on top of her game with education, structure, safety (especially this year), and more. She works very well with our Paster Father Dominic that I can't say enough great things about. I have always felt like the teachers were loving, compassionate and on top of every learning tool they can get their hands on, and this year they are going above and beyond. If you are looking for a place for your kids to feel safe, loved and get an education you can be proud of, this is the place to come.

Bullying is a big problem here. The students don't write. One year they noticed standardized test scores showed low writing skills. They assigned a teacher to just teach writing. Again my child ended the year with a mostly empty writing notebook and an A grade. The students also end the year with out finishing the math curriculum. One year my child pulled out a math workbook from their backpack at the end of the year. I noticed that last unit was not completed. While I was wondering why it was not finished they pulled out another math workbook. It was meant to be the second half of the year an none if it was completed. It arrived home without a note from the math teacher or school as to what happened. Every time a bad review is posted here an email goes out to the school encouraging parents to write a good review to off set the bad. They say things like the community is so great. They don't mention the bullying issues and the significant number of families that leave. They never mention that almost none of the 8th graders get in to the public selective enrollment high schools. Students don't even place in to the competitive Catholic schools. If you doubt this review ask for specific information on high school placement. You won't get it. 8th grade classes are small because so many families leave before their kids got to 8th grade. They are not leaving for CPS academic centers either. The kids who have gotten a spot at an academic center have done so because their parents hired tutors to teach them what St. Ed's didn't. Academics at this school are sub par. Students here are not challenged and no one is looking out for the kids who are bullied.

We only just started at St. Edward’s this school year, but so far it is a vast improvement over our last school. The parent involvement can’t be beat. The curriculum is up to par and just challenging enough. The faculty and staff have been wonderful. We look forward to seeing what else there is to look forward to as the school year progresses!

There are no perfect schools as there are no perfect people. Our experience at St. Edward school has been beyond positive. I have had productive relationships with both of my kids' teachers throughout the years and have advocated strongly when I felt things should be improved. I have been active in the school community and found the families to be welcoming, caring and vocal. I couldn't have asked for a better elementary experience for my children. Parents who are not happy should always look elsewhere to satisfy their and their children's needs. I just want to be clear that their negative experiences do not represent the majority of St. Edward parents.

The school community definitely tries but that simply isn't good enough. If parents want their kids to be up to speed and able to compete against kids once out of this school - please look into schools that are more academically advanced. There is plenty to be desired given all of the available tools and resources elsewhere!

The teachers and staff are compassionate, caring and fully invested in the students academically. Many students each year that graduate get accepted into top private and public selective enrollment high schools. We are a commuter family and pass 2 catholic schools in our area to attend St. Edward. On top of the great academics, and great community with in the school they offer so much more. From athletics, instrument lessons, a great orchestra and so much more. They also have a before and after school care program. I also love the communication and the how approachable the teachers are.

Terribly behind in math. A few of the teachers bullied students who didn't quite fit in. By the middle grades, severak students had become massive bullies, and neither the administration nor the parents dealt with them effectively. My kid couldn't even talk to a member of the opposite sex without being accused of having a romantic ulterior motive.

I have been involved with St Edward School for 5 years now as my oldest started in preschool. I have watched my daughter grow and develop into a mature preteen with great confidence and humility. I will attribute a lot of that growth to the St Edward community where we have met other great families and children all helping us round out our children's experiences. I also have a kindergarten child attending and will shortly have 2 preschoolers to follow. Its a great school and community and haven't regretted our decision.

Great community with great teachers who get to know the students. High academic standards and extracurricular programs. Students matriculate into top Chicago schools, both public and private.

Contrary to what has been posted, there is financial aid available at St. Edward School, and because of excellent fundraising by volunteer organizations, the tuition is one of the lowest in the area. The students get an excellent education. All you have to do is walk in the door to see that the student population reflects all ethnic backgrounds. The principal is very responsive to concerns. Last year graduates were accepted at Chicago public selective-admission high schools as well as the top Catholic high schools in the area. Many of the students who are attending Catholic high schools received scholarships from St. Edward through fundraisers. St. Edward is tops in its music education program, offering private lessons in nearly every instrument, and it has two orchestras and a band. The sports program is excellent, and the preschool program was begun by a teacher with a PhD in early childhood education. Beyond that, the school is located in a very safe neighborhood with extremely strong community values. My child considers the St. Edward community like her family.

St. Edward has an excellent mathematics program from pre-school through 8th grade. Mrs. Valentino, Sister Shirley, Ms. Campbell, and Sister Emeric have done a terrific job developing the solid mathematical foundations my daughters will need to succeed in high school. I feel confident they will have opportunities in finance, technology and engineering fields if they choose. My daughters love math, and they owe it to these teachers the most. They have a great art, sports, and music program as well. They are seriously great at educating the body, soul and mind. I am very pleased with the critical thinking and analysis that my children have been learning and applying everyday inside and outside of school. The principal runs a tight ship with excellent parental involvement. In my view, this school is second to none and worth every penny we pay.
