I was at River Oaks Academy about one year ago and at this school, plenty of children were bullied. There were so many fights with no consequences, a child got choked by another child while teachers made that student say sorry, and so many children were put in harm's way by other children. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT.

My daughter is going to be in 3rd grade this year and has been in ROA since first grade. I DO NOT LIKE THIS SCHOOL!! If I could take my daughter out of it I would. She is constantly bullied and they do nothing about it. My child has come home with a black eye, bruises, and has been threatened by another child they they were going to kill her and nothing was done. DO NOT send your child here if you can help it.

My grandchildren attend this school. My granddaughter has been getting bullied from the start of the school year and NOTHING has been done. I cannot believe that the staff are blaming being short staff as an excused. My baby has gotten her hair pulled, thrown to the floor while in the bathroom and head pushed toward her desk making her bleed. You have to be able to be a role model to these children. Displaying lack of concern or care is just unacceptable! Parents need to get together and demand more out of the staff. The lack of professionalism and follow through is disheartening. Lets take care of our children!!!.

Bad school .... lots of fights i have been offered fruhs, AND kids jumped the fence and then tried to start a fire at the school...... one kid almosted died and teachers did nothing but maid the kid say sorry. Smh

Has a clean environment, and the kids are safe there. Have been blessed to have some quality teachers, but people need to remember that the teachers will care more for your child if you show that you do as well. Mrs. Ray is a standout, along with Mrs. Croker. I do wish there were more male teachers there though.

My son's end of grad test scores for 3Rd grade was four and fives. Transfered to Myers pack traditional and by the 5th grade his scores were two and one's. I love this school very much. The teachers are very nice and ready to answer any questions you have. The 3rd grade teacher Ms. Queen is the best. My daughter adores this teacher. Thank you.

My daughter when to river oaks, in the beginning it great. When she was in Mrs. Banks class she had a wonderful time. But then came the class from hell. She was getting bullied and they did absolutely nothing to help her. Before i found what was going on i use to get upset set with her because the way they told the story they out all the blame on her, until one i figure something was wrong to i took to see a child phycologist, which on the advice of the consolers as well. then when it came back that she was being bullied they flat out said my child was lying and that she did not have the personality to get bullied. Even when the phycologist called them to talk to them they told her the same thing. And the the last straw. in art that woman the art teacher she should not be teaching at the lil boy is sitting there telling my child these horrible things and she starts crying and they starting getting angry with her because of that. didnt even bother to ask what was wrong but called me and was yelling to me on the phone. DO NOT SEND YOU CHILD THRERE!!!!!!!!!

River Oaks Academy has enable my son to excel academically. He loves learning and is challenged daily. The lower grades are focusing on growth of every scholar, which is working. I cannot wait to see how he grows academically this year.

Great School. The teachers and staff are loving, attentive and supportive! My kids really enjoy going here and academically I couldn't be happier with the improvement they have gained. The school is very well kept and clean. Its a very nice facility and the support and technology given to the kids is outstanding!

If you have any opportunity to keep your children away from this school do so! We will be moving heaven and earth to not return. The school does have its shining stars (Ms. Ray the music teacher and Mr. Fink the TD teacher) and a select few teachers who care about the students. Other than they the school environment is not one in which children can grow and love learning. We have been there for several years and each one is worse. My children have been bullied on numerous occasions, have had their personal property stolen, the cafeteria is a nightmare to work with, the teachers get NO support from administration, the teachers talk to the kids as if they have no chance in life to be anything to drains on society. There is no love, compassion or encouragement. I have seen negative effects on both of my children and their personalities and outlooks on life as a result of this environment. I only pray that with a new school and new experiences this can be overcome.

My child has been in ROA for 4 years and the experience has been challenging. ROA has some really good teachers who care about the students and their learning. However the teachers are overloaded, lack support and assistance (from administration and parents) and have too many behavioral issues to attend to, which results in frustration and disorganization. Behavioral issues creates distractions and chaos in the classroom and issues on the bus. The prior assistant principle who was reassigned for the 2013-14 year is greatly missed; new dean of students is offensive and accusatory toward the well behaved students and lack appropriate communication skills. It is my perception that the administration is unapproachable, not supportive of teachers, lacks understanding of teacher needs and not open to listening to teachers. The prior three years were average made positive by very good and well experienced teachers; however even a good teacher this year cannot make up for the overall poor experience. ROA is not reflective of the community and lacks diversity. My family is searching for better opportunities for 2014-15 and will not return to ROA.

If you are moving to Charlotte or thinking of registering your kid for this school DON'T! My son is an honor roll student, reading on an 8th grade level and is well above grade level in math and science. The administration is a joke. The principal and assistant principal are completely disconnected. The receptionist is rude and the dean of students has no regard for the children. My son was getting bullied and when my child defended himself and beat up all the bullies he gets in trouble. This after we informed them of the students. Never considering that these same group of kids are constantly in trouble. In short send if you want your kid treated like more than a number send them somewhere else. This has by far been the worst school year ever. Listen to the other reviews!

Since the new school year, I have seen some improvements. There is a bit more friendliness and parent involvement encouragement. But I am not sure why the main front office lady (first initial starts with a C) seems like she is not happy to be there. I wish she would find another job if she does not like working there. I have been to other schools in CMS (older schools, newer schools) and the front office administrators have been pleasant. Not too overly happy-but pleasant. There is a new older lady in there that is nice, but the one that has been there for some time (I would rather not place her name in this) can come off pretty harsh. Here is a tip for her or something that her management should share with her- Even though every parent and student is not easy to deal with, she needs to remember that she is getting paid for what she does at the school (unless she is volunteering, which I doubt.) She needs to provide good customer service. Everyone provides customer service. There is NO job where you have NO customers. Please treat everyone like you would like to be treated when you come into a business. The teachers should not talk to the parents like we are children.
