I have been a parent at Tierra Linda since 2009. This is my last year since my youngest is in 5th grade. Tierra Linda has been a great school for both of my kids. I am surprised to see a few of these bad reviews. This school has always been great, it's gotten even better now that our newer principal has really taken pride in the school and made many improvements. I am very involved in this school and have seen and heard parents moving in TL's boundaries to make sure they attend. Our family involvement is great...this school is the total package. PTA is great, technology is great, great teachers that care. I have proof...most of the kids on the honor society in middle school are Tierra Linda Kids...I am very proud of this school.

A good year depends on the teacher you get. My daughter loves her teacher but very little hw and not very challenging. My daughter also finishes her weeks hw within 30 minutes on Monday. No afterschool activities at all, paid or unpaid. School buses to pick up kids in the morning and drop them off after school???? Wouldn't that be nice. How can you have an Elementary School and no Winter Concert? How sad that the school cannot put a little effort into having a concert once a year. My daughter got hurt on the playground where I had to pay a doctor and the school did not take responsibility, saying that they have enough supervisors during lunch. 4-5 adults for that many kids I'm surprised more accidents don't happen. Overall, the last 2 years my daughter has had great teachers that care about her, which is appreciated.

I am very pleased with Tierra Linda and its teachers. Mu two children have done very well at this school (since 2010). The new principal is outstanding and I am amazed to see the parent involvement.

Our son attended Tierra Linda in 2011 and we could not have had worse experience. We met with the principal and our son's kindergarden teacher on numerous occasions regarding our son's behavior, each time we remained optimistic. That was until we received an email from the teacher explaining how our son was "the worst student she has ever had in 25 years of teaching" and the principal she basically backed up the teacher. Our son was pulled immediately from TL and the disrict. We enrolled our son in another public school outside of the district where he was tested and placed in the elementary school's gifted program. His class room behavior and attitude towards school improved overnight. No one, especially his teachers at his new school, could believe the nightmare we had gone through at Tierra Linda. Don't let the teachers and the principal bully you and tell you that your student is a problem or a bad kid As one other reviewer referred to below, they are essentially looking to get rid of any child deemed a problem so they can artificially raise their test score rather then raise their test scores through excellent teaching. Good luck TL and good riddance!!!

Tierra Linda is currently ranked 3rd behind Santa Rosa Magnet and La Mariposa in the Pleasant Valley School District, and carries a 2011 896 API rating. There's good reason why this school is always ranked in the top 3 every year. The teachers provide important learning skills required to excel in the next level. Don't be mislead by opinions stating that their child is not being "challenged." The 10% rule of thumb applies to all. What is important is Tierra Linda has an excellent track record and is well documented, but don't take my word for it. You can go to: http://api.cde.ca.gov.

Repost from my April post, as suspected, my child who has always scored above average or proficient in math and English , scored average in both from attending here one year. I have had to retain my Kindergartner to repeat again also. I pulled my kids from this school and they now go to a different school. This school likes to clean house, meaning keep kids who are good and focus on them, disregard the rest. The teachers are average, I have seen much better at other schools, working together and having programs available to help kids in need. Not much programs after school offered either. My son needed speech, he was finally put in it in end of January???? Not sure why it took the school 4 months to get it together. If your child has ANY special needs like ADHD, ADD, or anything, they are not fourth coming on info to help you or your child out, he or she will be left behind. The teachers don't seem to be educated on special needs children either. Good luck to you if your kids go here, hopefully you get a good teacher!

School is ok. My daughter is not challenged at all. I actually have asked the teacher to please give more advanced hw for her because she finishes a weeks worth of hw in 10 minutes on Monday. Funny business was going on with a 2nd grade teacher last year who ultimately was fired before school ended. Makes you wonder if they even know what is going on. A little scary! Hoping this year will be a good year. Very little afterschool activity. Would be nice to have different paid or unpaid things for kids to do after school. My daughter has to keep doing that hip hop because there is nothing else offerred.

The teaching staff is professional, kind and inspiring. The curriculum is solid and complete - 2 of my children actually ACED the STAR test over the years without any involvement from tutors or outside help. I have 1 GATE child now in 5th grade at the school now (2 graduated years ago) and his teacher really understands how to energize his mind. He just loves his teacher and school! My children were completely prepared for the honors program in middle school. Nice campus and professional, helpful office staff.
