I’ll make this short and sweet. The reason why the school has high test scores is that they are teaching the children how to take the test. It seems to me and the same manner that someone would practice for the SATs. While The school administrators are trying to get the highest test scores they are not teaching the kids the skills that the state requires. After moving the children to a magnet school, did we learn how poorly our children were being educated. I hate seeing school administrators, cheat the system. The sad part about it is that the children are the ones who end up suffering. I’m looking in to filing a complaint with the California Department of Education.

We could not be happier. It’s just a good of not better than Cape Elementary Charter School. Our daughter loves it and wants the Summer break to be over so she can go back. Great PTA! And my daughter’s abilities have grown so mu.

This is an amazing school. We came from another district and absolutely love the school, teachers, and students. It is extremely safe and my daughter has made amazing friends and memories. I haven't observed or experienced a single negative for this school.

The school is fantastic. I have two kids that attend. One is in TK and one is in third grade. They love their teachers and so do we.

Absolutely awful school that literally kills your child's ambition to learn. My child was reprimanded for wanting to take home a science book on planets that was "above his grade level". They refused to let him take the book out of the library. My child was bored and severely depressed, constantly feeling like everything he did was wrong. My child liked his teacher but the principal is just awful. Doesn't care what parents say or want for their children and it's her way only. Academically my child learned literally NOTHING and his teachers were still teaching ABC's by the END of the school year. Absolutely unacceptable. My child was also bullied a lot but the principal was more concerned with reprimanding my child than correcting the situation.

So first day and extremely disappointed. Complete chaos and completely avoidable. Was this the airport in Kabul or an elementary school in the US??? Parents are not allowed on campus to guide their children where they need to be. That's OK for older grades but not for first graders. They had lower grades meet at lunchroom tables (outside - this is California) . Even that is OK IF they had sufficient staff/volunteers to direct the kids. Kids were just wandering around with no direction. They did not label the tables with signs as to which room goes where. Kids at that age can read basic signs (like B-6 etc.). Kids were afraid, they were crying and it was complete mayhem. These are 6 years olds. They should have gotten parent volunteers if they knew they would be short staffed to help. I would have helped but was looking through a chain-link fence. They will blame it on COVID or "its the first day" but its because of a lack of leadership and direction. Now have no confidence on how this school is run and feel bad for the kids who were excited for their first day but really let down :(

The teachers are very good. However, we expressed some mild concerns about an issue at the school and before we knew it, this information was spread throughout the school. This would have been just the usual childish gossip you have at any school. But, it appears a parent who represents the school and a school administrator were involved in disseminating certain information. We'll never know the whole story, but unfortunately we stopped trusting the school as a result. (This did not involve the current administration.) It is too bad for the teachers that this kind of thing goes on because they are great and I'm sure it only makes their job harder.

The school is just ok. In every grade, there seem to be 1-2 teachers who are not the greatest. So your odds of getting a decent teacher are better some years than others.

From the staff to the students to the campus, La Mariposa is an all around incredible school.

Our experience has been great! I have two kids currently attending, and I plan on sending my youngest. The principal is great and very on top of things. We’ve had great teachers and my children have thrived. I’ve been very happy with my overall experience.

This school is absolutely amazing. When we were buying our house, we only looked in neighborhoods that were in this school’s boundaries. The teachers are phenomenal. They work hard with each student and I’m always impressed with how much progress the students make each year.

Interestingly, my child has been very successful at this school. But, she’s very bored academically and the environment is not the best. On its best day, this school is adequate for average students. Most of the time, it is below average. It is certainly below average for smart kids.

I have two kids who have been through all 6 grades in this school (K-5), and two currently enrolled, and have had a wonderful experience there with each of them! We feel VERY fortunate to live in a neighborhood with such a great school.

This school is amazing. From the teachers to the staff to the principal. It’s always clear that they keep the child’s best interests at heart. I’ve never had an issue communicating with the classroom teachers on any concerns I or they have. They welcome parents to work WITH them to create the best environment for the kids. They are all dedicated, competent and compassionate. I feel so fortunate to have my kids at this school!

Our son attended K grade. The school is oversubscribed so they have decided to have a split schedule to accommodate all the kids, an 8am and 9am start so the kids get an hour with reduced class size. It doesn't work and the kids are not getting the attention they need. Many parents we spoke to share the same concern. 25 to 1 is not a good ratio. We decided to take our son out late year and put in him Carden Heights where he had an immediate turnaround in his behavior. There was zero interest from the administration to inquire why we left, even though my wife was volunteering, conducting an art class for the kids (which they weren't getting) . I think that speaks to the root of the problem, too busy to care. The campus itself is very nice, well maintained, and clean. Though why they allow the parents to line up in their cars waiting to pick their kids, while spewing exhaust fumes all over the campus is beyond me.
