We are a small school, which has been a great thing for my son. Great new principal and awesome playground. The sweetest group of kids and families. Lots of opportunities for parent leadership and involvement. Great school therapist who has helped my son a lot. Love the NIA afterschool program for getting homework done and free play outside. Very caring staff from the security guard, to the principal, the aides, the janitors, the cafeteria workers, and EXCEPTIONAL teachers and paras, have made us very happy to go to our neighborhood school. A gem.

PS 295 is an absolute gem - small, inclusive in all senses, warm and vibrant community. My kid is currently in K and we've been blown away by the skill and dedication of his teachers, and amazed all all he has learned in a few short months. My kid is young for his year, and struggles with anxiety and some fine motor delays. This kid was only scribbling over the summer, he is writing words and drawing self portraits now.The way PS 295 has met him where he is, truly connected with him, and is nurturing his growth is beyond my expectations of any school.

I have two kids at PS295 and I have had a great experience with both of my kids. One of my kids is in gen ed classes, and the other has an iep with mandates to be in an ICT class. Both kids have thrived, especially bouncing back after Covid. Both my kids see the school counselor in a group setting and this has fostered their sense of belonging and being heard in elementary school. My kids have both had really amazing experiences with their teachers- the kind which will last with them for a lifetime. There are many really great teachers and special Ed professionals who really know my kids and understand them and have helped them thrive. The parent community is great, and my kids have made great friends.

PS295 is a wonderful, small, and inclusive environment. It makes a city or neighborhood like Brooklyn feel smaller and like you can actually make a difference and have a voice. I’ve been so happy that my child has thrived there both socially and academically. It’s also a great place for kids to explore identity. The pride club, for example, adds a safe space for kids to talk about issues of gender, especially if they don’t have support at home. Mental health is key here, and parents work with teachers if kids are experiencing mental health or social issues. What more could you want from a school that cares about your kid on so many levels?

The PS 295 school community is the most warm and welcoming community that me and my child have ever encountered. My child is excited to go to school and learn and interact with her classmates and students every day. I highly recommend this school.

We transferred from PS124 the year before last after much consideration. Its a trek for us (one mile each way, and yes....it is uphill, and in the snow in the winter!), public transportation is not helpful at all, and I hated that my 3 kids would be the new kids, but it was such a wonderful decision for my family! The teachers have been ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - by far the best Ive ever experienced! The FTA cares deeply for the children, the community, and the staff, which is great to see. There is always something going on to pull us in to the school and to help us feel a part of something! My children are thriving for the first time in their educational careers, and I owe it to this beautiful school!

I am a parent to a 5th grader who graduates this year. Thank God. During this school year 2022-2023 a Pride Community Club was started. The 1st meeting was in November of 2022. Children that attend this club can openly discuss sex, sexuality and gender identity. Students, as young as 7 years old in the 3rd grade are allowed to voluntarily participate in this club without a parent’s consent or knowledge and without parental control. The club meets once a month during regular school hours. Children are allowed to participate without parents consent or knowledge!!!!! Parents have no control over the information that their children are exposed to during regular school hours. This is available to any student in the 3rd to 5th grade irregardless to whether the parent consents or not. Your child can attend this club even if you, the parent writes a letter to staff stating that you do not want your child to attend. PS 295 opted against implementing a permission slip to parents so that students can attend this club. Be careful with who you are trusting your children with. Hope this information is helpful.

Small classes, teachers willing to really work with you to meet your child's needs, the "specials" (art, music, drama) have been great. The school has had some ups and downs over the past few years but I think it's moving in a really positive direction. It's a great neighborhood school that is constantly working to find new ways to involve and engage as many parents as possible in our diverse community. I have no regrets about sending my son here. The group of kids and parents at this school are something special. There is work to be done for sure but there are many parents, teachers, and administrators who are willing to put in the work!

We left the school with a bad feeling where it was a great experience and home away from home for our child during most of our years there, but when it was bad- it was horrible! Like I have mentioned before, 5th grade was particularly rough. Our child was excited to be done and left basically without looking back. That was not the experience we expected as we left a place where we have spent many years as active and volunteering community members. If your child has a terrible experience in the 5th grade, ask other parents especially those with older children about their experiences. Join together in your concerns and know that there have been many parents before you with the same concerns! I regret not being open with my peer parents until the end of the year, because I learned way too late that we were not the only family who felt this way.

My children are having a wonderful experience at this school. It has an arts focus with full-time Art, Drama, Science, Gym and Seeds of Kindness (social emotional growth) teachers. There is also music, dance and library. It is a small, diverse and very caring community. The teachers are really lovely, hard-working and devoted.

My son goes to 295. It's such a sweet caring school with an open thoughtful vibe. I love the size. I love the community. There are programs that I think are really making a difference in the emotional development of the students such as Seeds of Kindness. The special ed coordinator is really pro-active and his teacher is extremely communicative, knowledgable, helpful and kind. The students think of the principal as some sort of rock star. My son also loves the after-school program. I feel that he is blossoming at 295 and I'm grateful that he's at such a good place.
