my son gets bullied by a teacher
Submitted by other on March 26, 2023
This school sucks, that is my conclusion. I was bullied so many times even punched in the face. If you want your child there be ready for your kid to be abused everyday. The principle of the school does not care about the safety of the students. No child should have to be yelled at because the teacher has no control of the classroom. The math is explained in a difficult way and the Wordly Wise textbooks talk about British grammar! The teachers think of excuses to yell at your kids like “your child doesn’t do class work”. When I left the school my parents checked my notebooks for work and everything was in the books. Once in my class a teacher slammed the computer lid on someone’s fingers. That sums up my experience in this terrible school. If I told you everything that happened we would be talking for hours.

I am a parent of two children who attend the school. I am very happy that the school replicated in Staten Island after the Blue Ribbon school in Brooklyn. The student body is diverse and my children are valued. I am happy that my children will receive a wonderful education and have many opportunities as they enter middle school. My children are growing and happy and that is what you want as a parent.

This is an amazing school with a loving and caring staff. This year I just wrote a question on a post it and I had a teacher sit with my child explain it to him and call me.to give me a detailed conversation of what happened and how I can support his learning. When I had a concern last year the admistration and our principal jumped at the opportunity to help and get to the bottom of the problem. We work together as a team. It helps to not attack the people that are trying to help not just my family but 500 families. I could not have asked for a better more understanding school. No school is perfect this is not private home schooling but it's as close as I could have hoped for. It's what makes us HCCS strong. We don't always have to agree but we have to work together in a respectful manner to bring our children into a world they will be able to stronly navigate in the future.

HCCS- Staten Island. The school struggles with bullying and academic progress. In my child's classroom there is at least one incident a week. The disorder in a classroom has its roots in inexperienced teachers being hired every year for the new and upcoming grade ( the school adds a new grade level each year), as well as favoritism shown by the school administration. Parents form cliques and exclude children of the "outsiders" from birtday parties, Secret Santa, extra basketball practices.... Due to lack of successful classroom management, academic progress is close to none. The school tries to make it up by arranging exhausting after school state test preparation. Overall, a very stressful and self-esteem damaging experience. The school is publically funded and privately run. They worry very much about maintaining their charter and the flow of public funds. The parents hear a lot of "send your child to school, otherwise we might lose the charter", "send your child to test prep, otherwise we might lose the charter"... it is more of a business than a school. Would not recommend the school and will be leaving for a public school.

This is our second year here at HCCS SI. I can not say enough wonderful things about this school. We’re beyond happy with this school, their environment, their curriculum, their priority in social/emotional learning, their daily will to be communicative/informative with the families, etc. I have two children in this school and one being on the spectrum and I can not say enough about the care, nurturing, love she’s gotten. The amount of progress my daughter has made being here, both of my daughters. We love love love HCCS! Only thing is… we wish they went up to high school so we can be with them longer!!

HCCS is a great school! Please visit and update your information.HCCS is a warm, nurturing and accepting environment. The student population is diverse and the children make it work. The school facility has been recently renovated and it is just wonderful. The new gym, music and art rooms are amazing! The new classrooms are big and airy and allow for ample space for the children to move freely in the classroom. Student Instruction is differentiated based on each child's need and teachers routinely keep parents informed about student progress. Students are exposed to technology throughout the day in various ways forms - teacher instruction on smartboards, student use of iPads or laptops, etc. In middle school, this year, my children started to learn Latin (in addition to Greek). 7th graders are given free SHSAT test prep and as the parent of multiple children is a life saver. The school's 8th graders routinely are accepted into the city's specialized high schools and best private and high schools! The PTA works hard to offer lots of fun activities for the families including chess instruction on Fridays, BINGO and family movie nights.

Our child's academics have went up dramatically from a public school. The staff is amazing you can speak to all teachers without a hassle. They address any concern you may have. It's a great feeling knowing your child is taken care of in a safe and healthy environment.

It is always welcoming when you are greeted by your name from staff member and administration. When you walk into the school you feel the love everyone has for each other. They welcome you with open arms and make you feel at ease when dropping off your children.

# 1 SchoolMy children attend HCCS. This school provides my children with the best education and so much love. I can't wait to hear all about their day. The teachers have brought my children to an above level reading level. They stay after school to help my children understand. They call me with good news to let me know how well they did. And if my children are acting up they call me to let me know and we work together to fix the situation. The teachers always put my children first. I am so thankful for this school. I wish there was a high school!

An amazing school with a supportive, nurturting and academically excellent environment. Your child will not get lost. Sometimes rigorous but they do a tremendous job prepping the children and building their stamina at the right pace. We have three children in the school - one who is in the Universal full-day Pre-K and we couldn't be happier with it. The Pre-K experience has been amazing for our child. Everyone in the staff has been wonderful.

On kindergarten children are writing at college level. With a lot of reading, writing and math homework, students build their stamina in early grade. Also,I learn to speak Greek with my two children from Hccs, isn't that great! Ms Tetronis, the principal, is very warm and open. Besides you can't miss Ms Joy smile and kindness. The staff is great. It's feel like each of them is family member. No child leave the Building without Miss Michelle attention. She knows each of them by their names associates with the parent' s face. Do not need to worry about safety. My children love to go to school.one suggestion is that the school needs to do more work to help students stay positive about themselves .

HCCS is the best school! I graduated from HCCS and went to one of the best HS. I wish HCCS had a HS so I would not leave! That is how much I love this school. If you want to learn and agree to work hard then you should consider HCCS as your school. The teachers are so much fun and love all their students. Mrs. Tettonis is always doing things for the students to make them happy and to allow them to have a voice. We would go on trips for free, our field day was so much fun and our senior trip was the best! Thank you to HCCS for giving me lots of memories and allowing me to be myself. And if you miss your mom during the day, you always have Ms. Joy, Ms. Natasha and Ms. Etimos to go too. Miss them and all the fun times and talks. HCCS # 1 School!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This school is terrible. Don t even waste your time here. Kids who go to this school go only because they re forced, and because the teachers somehow manage to reassure the parents every parent teacher night. Try dyker heights or any other public school. Don t try HCCS. It s completely disgusting and terrible. I have gone there for nine years and was a student so trust me just don t go there. AT ALL

HCCS is a great school, and has been a wonderful experience for my daughter. The staff and faculty are amazing! The principal is an exceptional leader, and she has the support of a talented, smart group in her administration. My daughter thrived there, and I can't thank you all enough. My only problem is, we're now so spoiled, because you've set a really high standard!!!!

Looking forward to another great year at HCCS! My son's in 5th grade and actually looks forward to school. The staff and teacher's are caring & talented and the fact that they learn to speak and write Greek in addition to everything else makes it that much better. And uniforms are a big plus too! (Tho they do love the 'dress down days'!) This year's construction will pose some challenges but I'm sure they'll deal with it the best they can and in the end it'll be totally worth it.

HCCS is more than a school it is a family. The principal is GREAT, she is someone whom is understanding and caring. She is wonderful to her staff and and respects her students. I have always been welcomed by her whenever I visit the school. She returns phone calls, e mail making her accessible if needed. She has led HCCS in a path of success and I am proud that my son decided to finish his middle school years with HCCS. The office staff is also great, Ms. Joyce, Ms. Joy and Ms. Natasha , just to name a few are awesome, but they to are also caring and responsive to any situation presented. I have never had an issue with the staff and I wish them continued success in the operating of such a wonderful school. Teachers at at HCCS are very involved with their students, they help prepare students for important tests and promote learning and academics at what I believe higher than normal standard. The only disadvantage to HCCS is that they are not a high school. I wish the entire HCCS a great and successful school year. I will see you all soon again. Shelly
