Ms. Daniel Carter is the most fantastic thing that has happened to Phyl's Academy! I've toured this school for my older children and wasn't sure about the environment. After hearing about people's positive experiences, not just on her tour but with her as a classroom teacher, I have reconsidered and will be enrolling my child there. She's a tremendous asset, and I hope she is truly valued. I was shocked to find out that she was neither the director nor assistant director of the school but the Academic Supervisor, as she is highly decorated, has many accolades, and comes with many recommendations. She was extremely professional, informative, and warm during the tour. I can't wait for my child to start their journey with Ms. Carter being her teacher. She solidified my choice to send my daughter to Phyl's Academy!

My child is currently in the 3K program at this school. There are somethings that I love about the school and somethings that I find frustrating as a parent.Pluses:- My child likes his teacher and has made friends in his class- classrooms are large, well equipped and clean- facilities are clean and well maintained - Staff are kind and caring towards the kids- There is a mix of older long term staff and younger staff- They follow Covid safety procedures - There is a large outdoor space for kids to play- They serve good meals- The aftercare program is run by the school not a third party so it’s pretty flexible and accommodating. You can add or drop aftercare throughout the year as work schedules change.Minuses:- Lack of regular communication with parents from administrators. It would be helpful to get a bi-weekly email with announcements and news about what the kids are up to. Instead we get last minute announcements that seem like an afterthought.- Lack of community. I realize this is hard to foster during Covid but I know other schools distribute contact info for parents in a class so they can arrange play dates outside of school.- Regression in learning. I didn’t have high academic expectations for 3k but I find it troubling that my child could count to ten and sing the ABC song prior to starting school and now he skips numbers and letters and isn’t interested in pre-writing/math activities at all.I know the school grew rapidly this year with the addition of the 3K and 4K programs and they had a lot to figure out. I really hope their program director can fix some of the problems before next year. It’s great if you are just looking for a safe childcare option but not if you are interested in an academic foundation for your child. I’m still unsure if I will send my child back for 4K or try another school.

I love this school. It was one of the best decisions that I could of made for my daughter’s educational endeavors. The Staff and administration is amazing. My daughter is learning so much and has not missed a beat with the pandemic. The remote learning has been a great experience so far. I have no complaints!!!

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. ITS NOT A GOOD SCHOOL. TEACHERS ARE HORRIBLE AND RUDE TO BOTH PARENTS AND STUDENTS. SOME OF THE TEACHERS THERE EVEN CURSE AT THE STUDENTS.

Please think twice before sending your kids to the school!! When doing my tour I thought this was the school for my kids only to find out its a nightmare. The office staff is horrible, not professional, attitudes, and can't give you information when asked for. The school owner is never around to answer questions. The school it's self needs to be upgraded. As far as my child learning the teachers were not teaching my child what he was supposed to be learning. The classrooms were crowded with only one teacher and had no control. I can go on for days but pls think twice before coming enroll info your child here.

Phyl's Academy the reason my child couldn't read in kindergarten he went there knowing his numbers, colors, shapes, letters sounds and recognition writing his letters, for pre-k . THey were teaching him the same things even though he showed them he knew it the teachers are rude, no structure to what they do love fun and games though my kid left pre-k unable to read. for a pre-k student one to three letter words at least should be in their vocab my older kids went to Brooklyn Institute for Children and at the end of pre-k they read at 1st grade levels so imagine my disappointment when i listened to a friend who recommended the school well he is in a gifted program in 2nd grade after starting in the reg kindergarten class i wouldn't recommend anyone serious about education to this school if you wanna have friends and your child have fun and not much work its a school for you but if your child's education is first priority dont waste your money it is useless. Teachers excuse when they educate the kids we remove them to gifted programs and they lose the kids ($$)

Very good school with a nurturing environment!!! My daughter entered this school at 2 years old, attending Nursery 1, and has loved it from the very beginning. She has had excellent teachers, all very caring and nurturing. The school had a very strong academic curriculum; students are taught one to two years above the standard grade level. My daughter is now 7 years old and completing first grade, she is on the honor roll and is excelling quite well. She loves the teachers and the environment. I would strongly recommend this school to any parent who wants a quality education and strong academic foundation for their child. The down side is the lack of parent involvement and no formal gym or Assembly hall

My daughter has been attending this school for two years, Nursery and now Pre-K. Overall, I love the school. I feel great knowing that she is well monitered and safe. I love the fact that there is an after school program for parents who can't pick up until 6pm. I do think that the registration fee and after care are too expensive as the child gets older.

My son attended Phyl's Academy for Pre-K and it was a wonderful experience for our family. By the end of Pre-K, he was adding and subtracting single numbers, his phonemic awareness was remarkable for a kid his age and he started reading. He loved his teacher and the the environment. The administration handled concerns and issues very thoughtfully and with the childrenin mind. I don't think you can ask for more. The only reason we're not there now is the tuition. Between the registration, tuition and after-school, it was a little too much. But I still think it's a great school.

I am so happy I found this school. Really never heard of it before my boss' son started going here but I'm so glad she told me to check it out. My daughter loves her teachers, is learning a lot, and making new friends. I've enrolled her for September and I am really happy with the school. It's a little far from where I live in Prospect Heights, but similar schools in my area are more than twice the price! I'd rather travel a little than pay rent money for preschool!

My child has been attending Phyl's for over a year now and for the most part I am happy with the quality of education she is recieving. She started in Nursery and is now in Nursery 2. She is on target as far as recognizing shapes, colors and letters, articulating her thoughts (as much as you can at 3 years old!) and counting. My issue with the school is that it is expensive and I am doubtful that her teachers are trained properly in thier field. If they work on staff development it would go a long way. For what I am paying, some extracurriculars would be nice. How about adding a dance class or a music appreciation course? Also, I would like more parent nights where we can come in and speak to teachers & administrators about the childs progress & what they need to work on. Lastly, I would not mind if they push my kid some more. Her homework is already too easy for her, kids get bored and a false sense of accomplishment if there isn't much of a challenge. They have been open-minded about parent involvement allowing 1 parent to do a fruit calender to encourage healthy eating. More parent inclusiveness would be nice though, no one has ever reached out to ask me to volunteer.
