The teachers are very nice and supportive, and bullying isn't that much of an issue if you don't stand out very much. But the overall atmosphere is not great and I believe this middle school has its flaws as it is being far from perfect. I noticed that in this school the teachers really try to do everything in order to teach students well, and I feel like this school is below average. It's pretty old and dirty, some kids vape (popular girls), test scores aren't great; but that's really the only flaws I've noticed so far.

Schoolclimate, teacher retention, bullying, exclusion, shaming, and blatant ignoring of parents are all the daily norm. Sped students aren’t closing gaps with their lagging skills.

My daughter is in her second year at Bayfield Middle and is doing very well. For both years all of her teachers have been excellent. I think much of student accomplishment comes from parental support and expectations, however, the teachers and administration are very in tune with the student's needs and progress. Although middle school students do not want their parents "hanging out" at school, Bayfield Middle should continue to seek parental involvement. As with many public school with finite resources, there are students who are not reaching their full potential and need extra help. According to a few teachers with whom I've spoken, the new principal is a big improvement.
