The staff of Widen Elementary are loving, caring, and very supportive to the students needs. I have never had any issues with the teachers or staff. My son was in Pre-k 3 last school year and both of his teachers were awesome with him. I am crossing my fingers my daughter will have the same pre-K 3 teachers next school year. Keep up the great work staff and friends.

I have been at Widen for 20 years and the school has improved drastically. Student behavior and academics are a priority. Widen is now a recognized school! Go WILDCATS!!

This is my second year at Widen Elementary, and it is my pleasure and privilege to guide students as they come to school to learn and grow every day. Go Wildcats!

Widen has been an excellent place to work and learn. While this school is fighting attrition from charter schools, a history of lower scores, as well as outside factors, teachers remain positive and strive to make the learning environment effective for ALL students.

As a new teacher to Widén I have been supported to meet my students' needs by a team of creative, innovative and compassionate educators who work together to support a wide range of student needs that help children feel safe, loved and academically challenged. I also have had strong support from parents who work with me in a partnership allowing the child to know that the important adults in his or her life are working together to meet their needs and share their joys. I am grateful the parents, the staff, and the community of Widén. I love my students and I love teaching at Widén!

I have had the privilege of being a part of the Widen community for the last 4 years. The students are resilient and working hard to be successful in school and in life. Parents are kind and hard working, and the teachers are working to stay on the forefront of educational technology and technique. Widen has a history of performing poorly on statewide assessments, but the community is working to change the negative image and making steady progress toward success.

I have been privileged to be in the Widen family for many years and see how the administration has grown, scores are improving, student self-image being supported in arts and sports and ACE after-school, teachers putting in many long hours and countless days of professional development to serve the students better, and families creating community through the wonderful support of the Parent Support Specialist, CAC meetings, coffee talks with administration, and many other avenues.

No help , no body gives a hoot about African American kids here and it shows, yet nobody cares.

Teachers are almost always new and many will leave after their first year. Most parents are not so supportive of the teacher when it comes to handling their child's behavior but there are some great parents and students. The principal is absolutely terrible, and is one of the main reasons the school is in a decline, being IR almost every year. Maybe if they do away with her the school could start to get better and shape up.

Kendall Arnold is the most reliable teacher and supportive of her students. She is conscientious and cares for those children in her tutelage.

I cannot believe the parent reviews on this page. Do you know where you live? Of course Widen is going to have rough kids in it. You live in the ghetto! Did you expect something different? As far as blaming the teachers, that needs to stop. Those poor teachers are trying to do their job in a war zone in southeast Austin. Take care of your business as a parent and get a good job. Move to an area that's a little classier.
