I used to go to Hazeldale elementary around 2006-2012, and passed my entire 6 years in elementary at the school. I have started and graduated from school in the BSD. Back then, it was a lovely, quaint school with a great and caring staff who communicated with parents, wanted to see their students succeed, and placed the well-being of the children above all else. I am disappointed to say that this has drastically changed for my niece and nephew who we just recently had to PULL and TRANSFER from the school due to negligence and cruelty on part of the staff and other students. My nephew has been relentlessly bullied on the bus, and the school has done little to nothing to stop it. His sister has had to step in on multiple occasions to defend him because the adults around them will not. He had items stolen from other children that the school nor the families have replaced, and he has received actual, visible injury from the altercations that occur on these instances. On top of this, recently on parent-teacher night, his teacher had no kind remarks to say about him, nor did she care to visit with his mom for the full allotted time she was supposed to. She only spent the time insulting him and putting him down in front of his mother, and started their meeting late. She spent the time criticizing his academic performance rather than creating a plan to fix it. While I understand the stress that teachers face as both of my teachers have taught in the BSD for decades, it is also pertinent to treat the students who are struggling with respect and care so that they do not slip through the cracks. My nephew has ADHD is known to be hyperactive, but he is also incredibly smart and sweet. With the teaching and harassment he has received this year, his self-esteem has never been lower. The school could not care less, nor could his now former teacher. This is not a place I would ever consider sending my children, as they no longer care to foster an environment of learning for children with ALL types of needs as they should. I am so sad to see that this is what the school has become after myself and my siblings all had wonderful experiences there in years past. Now we are left to pick up the pieces of damage that the faculty member has caused, as well as the neglect on behalf of the school with my nephew’s bullying situation. I can only hope that no other child faces these circumstances, and the school can learn to care more about its student body.

I would rate our experience (so far) as a 9/10 - the new building and the school policies are exceptional. I appreciate the entire staff and all they do to make the school a positive place for all students.

The principal is more concerned with her image among the leaders in the district than she is with the parents and the students. As a result, the school suffers.

While the PTO, teaching and office staff are very friendly and supportive, I have been disappointed in the Principal's recess and lunch policy here. With this being the first year (2015-2016) of full-day Kindergarten, the year started off with these littlest learners (one of which was our daughter) getting three recesses a day, which I was very happy about! However, by October, all Kindergarteners were only being allowed ONE, 20-minute, outdoor recess (the parents were never notified of this change) regularly and it has been this way since. Apparently the kindergarten teachers were not meeting their "instructional minutes" so recesses had to be cut. School starts at 8:30 and Kindergarteners do not go to lunch until 11, and they have ZERO outdoor recess breaks during this time frame. The kiddos NEED to go potty and run around without feeling bad about needing to do so - they are 5 and 6 years old! In the afternoon, they get "indoor" recess for about 10 minutes when they can eat their snack, but this can hardly be considered an acceptable "recess." I see the one-recess policy as a violation of elementary school children's rights and needs as well as BSD "Wellness Policy." By law, when adults who work more than 6 hours a day get more meal periods and breaks (50-60 minutes) than Kindergarteners, something is REALLY WRONG! :(

I m shocked to see a rating of 8. Both my kids attended this school (my son for his entire elementary school "career" and my daughter only for kindergarten). They had between 28-39 kids per class (yes, my son had 39 kids his 3rd grade year), ONLY "1/2 day" (2hrs 25min) kindergarten was an option, they didn't have a nurse (my son had a broken hand thru an entire school day with no one calling us), and PE maybe once a week. When we moved to Texas, both my kids were appallingly behind and required tutoring to get caught up to the rest of the kids in their new schools. Shame on Beaverton ISD for having such low standards. An 8, I would give it a 2.

Excellent communication and teachers. Amazing PTO and community events bringing us all together. Its a family not just a school and most of us really feel that way

The Principal and staff make a huge effort to get to know the students, parents and the community. Education and student growth are a high priority at this school.

Hazeldale has great teachers who enjoy their students and are very good at individualized education for each student in their classroom. I am continually impressed with the focused, quiet and engaging learning environment in each classroom. The "6" rating on this website does not accurately portray the environment, staff and parental involvement at Hazeldale. We are in our fifth year at Hazeldale and will continue on for many more. We love Hazeldale!
