The dedication to true learning is evident in both the students and teachers at Summit. They do an incredible amount of teacher professional development and it really shows in my kids. Both are becoming the confident and scholarly kids I want them to be. Character at a young age will take them far for the rest of their lives. I'm fortunate to have had a great 3 years as a Summit family and look forward to those years ahead.

Our family is leaving Summit after two years. The lack of leadership is abysmal and considering the tuition, the quality of education is pathetic. Don't throwaway your money or your children's valuable time.

I have been a student at Summit since first grade, today I graduated from their 9th grade. I can honestly say that I would not be the same person if I had not grown up the the Summit community. The faculty is incredible there, it is obvious that each teacher there loves their job and their students. There is also a strong tie between the students, mainly because of the small class sizes. Everyone has a friend at Summit. I have learned about myself along the way, along with a solid education that I am confident in when I go off to public school next year. I've had so many opportunities because of Summit, and I'd encourage anyone who had the chance to go as well.

I am a current 8th grader at Summit, and will continue to 9th grade next year-- and I do not understand why so many parents are commenting about bullying at Summit. Bullying will inevitably occur in any middle school environment-- when I went to public school counselors were ALWAYS too busy dealing with bigger problems to have time to deal with bullying. But at Summit our counselor is ALWAYS eager and available to talk and help- it is her full time job. You could go see her any time and she was so good at helping us resolve girl drama issues that came up. I really hate that some of these parents are bashing Summit because I have never felt more happy, safe, and supported at school-- not only by my teachers, but also by my friends. It is just too bad that the other 99% of people that LOVE summit are not commenting on this site

My children are very happy at Summit. I feel that they are getting a quality education that not only will prepare them for high school, but also gives them a wonderful character development. There is new leadership in the Upper School (middle school), and difficult situations are not swept under a rug. My own dealings with staff have left me feeling confident that bullying is not tolerated. My children will be staying through ninth grade, and we feel fortunate to have such a terrific school in our community!

Our child left Summit middle school last year. We HAD the right name, and had Board connections. Yet our child got so horribly bullied that we pulled our child from completing the rest of the school year. And, consistent with other experiences noted here, the administration did nothing. Anyone reading these posts will see a clear and distinct pattern of this school allowing bullies of all kinds to go scot free without meaningful consequences for their actions.

My child left Summit School after horrible bullying, which the administration did very little about - guess it was because we did not have the right name and the bully did. Not only that, but once he started middle school in his new school we realized we was horribly behind. We've spent countless hours with tutors in math and language arts in order to get him up to the academic level of his peers in public school. We had absolutely no idea he was so far behind!!!! Thankfully, the teachers in his new school have taken the time and care to catch him up. So, no thanks Summit School. I only wish I'd saved all my $ and sent my son to our local school to begin with. Summit School killed his self-esteem.

Summit is that haven, that light and warmth that makes kids feel like they can do anything, try anything. I know for me, it was the place where I first learned that it s okay to speak up in class and answer a question wrong, where I learned how to sing in front of a crowd and give a speech to a theater full of people. Summit allowed me to try out for a sport that I d never played before, a sport in which I really didn't excel, but one I came to love anyway. In a nutshell, it s where I found out that my limits were a lot farther than I d originally thought.

My kids came to Summit two years ago from FCDS and, within weeks, were thanking me for the change. Summit is by far the most welcoming environment I've ever seen. Teachers and Staff know my children and the emphasis on progressive, hands-on education is refreshing. Middle School sports is on the rise with coaches who care about my child's needs and building character rather than winning at all costs. Summit School is by far the best independent school choice in Forsyth County.

We could not be happier with Summit. Our child is flourishing and will be more than prepared for high school. Teachers are available and engaged as are the administrators. We are very fortunate to have a school of this sort in our community.

My child is a current student at Summit and we have had a great experience. The focus is on developing a love of learning in the children and it certainly seems to be working.

As a former student, I would give this school 1 star, or if they had an option, less than 1 star! I went to Summit for middle school, and I can honestly say that I'm glad I transferred to another school before 9th grade! As said in previous reviews, if you're white, upper-middle class, have parents that donate to the school, and come to school everyday wearing overpriced designer clothes, you'll fit in perfectly. However, if you're not white (like me), or fit in any of those characteristics above, then you'll be singled out by many people. The amount of bullying that occurs on a daily basis is abysmal, and absolutely no one will do anything to help. Also, students here seem to live in a bubble of superficiality rather than reality.

We love Summit. My kids have attended Summit since JrK and they have loved every day. The teachers are the best. Every year I think that my kids' experiences couldn't get better. Then the next year comes, and it IS even better. My kids are happy and challenged. So I couldn't be more pleased. This community is very welcoming. The teachers work hard and administration is always willing to listen to parents. In the past several years they have been especially inviting to parents, really taking our ideas seriously. But Summit has always been excellent.

Summit has changed my son's life. Each teacher knows him, encourages him, expects a lot from him, and gives a lot to him. What we've found since coming to Summit is a school where the students are accepting of each other no matter what their differences are. My son is smart. In our previous school he was made fun of for liking science. At Summit, other students think his interest in science is great. Not only do they accept it, they admire him for it. Our experience is that this school loves kids. The teachers are amazing. They write notes and make phone calls to say that my son is doing well. They also call to say when he hasn't turned in his homework or they notice that he's not acting like himself. This school cares about its kids and parents. If I ever have a question i'm comfortable going to a teacher or a principal. I haven't had the need to go to head of the division but I would be comfortable if I did. The facilities are beautiful. There is so much going on that my son loves. He gets to do acting, robotics, sports plus the academics are great. I couldn't be happier with Summit and I tell my son's teachers this.

Unfortunately the last comment is all to true. We moved to Winston-Salem four years ago and our son started 2rd grade there. He's in 6th now and the bullying we've had to deal with is atrocious; the problems are swept under the rug. We are taking our younger daughter and son to Lewisville next year.

Summit has a significant issue with bullying, especially in the upper school. In previous years, I have watched several families try to work with the administration, but the problems are getting worse. This year my son was the target of a salacious in house email. The teenager was caught but there was basically no punishment. If you don't have the right last name or donate the right amount of money, there will be no fair play!

To the last reviewer to make a statement about someone else's experience is utterly ignorant. If you are white then you will never understand and if you are a person of color at this school and have only been there for the lower grades..... well like my grandma used to say "keep on living my child'. Unfortunately you are still to new to the "Summit Experience" to get it. I thought it was all 'peas and carrots" in the beginning too.... but basically your experience obviously is not the same as the other two posters. It does not mean that any of your experiences are less valid than the others. I tend to however agree with the other two posters! Good luck to you!

The previous two reviewers are quite simply, wrong and woefully misguided. Our family has had the experience of both public and private schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County area, and without a doubt, Summit School by far, makes a much greater effort to celebrate, embrace, and encourage diversity in its student body as well as faculty. ALL children, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic background are nurtured, loved, and accepted for who they are. In fact, that's what makes Summit.........Summit. It truly is a school where "everybody can be a somebody." --A proud parent of a Second-grader and a Junior Kindergartner at Summit School.

If you are white and belong to the upper class, you will be alright in this school. If you are not, your child will be singled out, bullied, and the staff and administration will do little to help. The primary years have a lot of offer, classes are rich in the arts and technology. Students are given more opportunities with different areas of content than they would at public schools. However, the academic rigor is lost during middle school. We switched schools in sixth grade and my children were woefully behind.
