Kindergarten teachers are exceptional however the first grade teachers are back peddling everything the kindergarten teachers have instilled in the students. They are focused on the few students that are behind and let students that are proficient or above average fall behind so those behind eventually catch up. I've discussed this with the principal and nothing is changing. Other parents are sharing similar frustration. State testing is also below the average as a whole, and letters have been sent home to make parents aware the district is allowing us to extent out of district. Mistakes are being made that can impact the future of these children that attend. Teachers other than kindergarten need more skills. Using references as "training the kids" instead of "teaching the children" is completely unacceptable.

This year has been my girls first year at Nelson , my 6th grader got to spend at least one year with her little sister who is in kinder .. I attended Nelson 32 years ago . Yes the school has change , and no it wasn't a pleasent begining for me . but the principal and the teachers there do make a diference.. My girls have become Nelson tigers .. I have always been proud to have been a Nelson tiger . The children have dedicated teachers that care . I try to volunteer as much time aspossible . Its a teem efford both teachers and parent working together will get our children to be high achievers and winners in life. My kinder got a great start, thanks you Miss castro .
