Livonia when we first moved in was considered a premiere school system. The state funding was reduced in half a couple of years ago, and the school system is still adjusting. My son went to Cooper for the past two years after 5 wonderful years at Grant Elementary. His fifth grade was basically wasted because he had a teacher who planned to retire amid the changes and never gave him homework and he just coasted. Communication was awful from the staff, probably because they were in self preservation mode. This year was better (6th grade), I have been able to contact the principal to help solve issues in the beginning of the year. Mr Taylor called me at home a few times to discuss and correct the situation. His teachers are more engaging and actually challenge him with homework. I still feel my son would be better prepared for the next level had we been able to go to a different school system.
