My boys both graduated from Van Meter schools, and although both were very different academically, the school was good for both of them and provided a good education. They are both still close to their classmates and keep in touch with some of their teachers.

Van Meter is a growing district with more than 100 open enrolled students because of the technology and engaged instructors. We moved our family there from a very large district - our 7th grader with a school issued Mac Book can make powerpoints on any topic and Skype with students in Hong Kong about the material. The teachers keep us constantly updated on student progress and work assignments through a computerized Active Grade system, which we love. Best decision we ever made for our kids.

This school lacks diversity, the whole student population, parents, and most importantly and shamefully - the staff - are all involved in the town clique rather than educating and celebrating education and diversity. Outsiders are not welcomed. When bullying happens at this school, and it does frequently, even physical attacks are not handled as according the student handbook and board policy. I would not recommend sending your child here.
