As the parent of a senior heading to a great college (and accepted at many others!), I have to say my family had an amazing experience at Trumbull High School and Trumbull Agriscience program. If one takes full advantage of all the opportunities the school offers, one will certainly be successful. We had great teachers and a wide range of courses offered in all levels.

terrible school always looking to get the kids who have a reputation into trouble, i’ve been searched over 7 times at this school and none of the time was there ever any contraband on me. From dean down to the police stationed there it is terrible and needs a lot of work, they discriminate against people based on their reputation and are more worried about how they look compared to how the kids are prepared for the next step.

Class of 2022BULLYINGThe other reviews about being bullied are awful but I do have to say the school has changed, and I never heard of any instances of bullying outside of 2-3 minor incidents throughout my high school career. Some of that probably has to do with COVID, but still they have improved massively on that since the other reviews were written.5/5TEACHERSMost, especially the History and English teachers, really cared and offered extra help after school. Science teachers were decent, all of them were nice but sometimes it could be hard to understand what they were talking about . Math teachers were meh. Most were alright in terms of personality but didn't really make the material interesting (Yeah I know it's math but at least try) and just tended to be the worst classes for most people. Teachers for electives were almost universally great.4/5WORKLOADMost homework came from math teachers and they usually assigned homework every day. Decent amount of homework from history teachers but nothing too crazy. English homework was almost always reading and taking notes with the occasional essay, and I didn't get a huge amount of science homework. For electives it depended entirely on the class, though if it wasn't a language class then odds are homework was light. Projects weren't too bad as long as you didn't procrastinate (which I did). Usually tests were around once a month, depending on the class, and quizzes tended to be every week (at least for math). Overall, the workload wasn't too bad (Based off my experience in which I took multiple APs and Honors levels classes) but it could be better, especially the homework specifically from math teachers.3/5 (with homework) 4/5 (without homework)SCHEDULEDay started at 7:27 and ended at 2:25. Classes were about 45 minutes long with 8 periods in the day, one of which was a lunch period. First lunch was too early for lunch, was around 10:30 if I remember correctly. Other lunch times were fine. 4 minutes of passing time in between each class.3/5EXTRACURRICULARSLots of extracurriculars, whether they were sports or academic clubs or just clubs for fun.5/5--ADVISORS--Advisors were good, helped me a lot but also didn't meet with you a lot.4/5--COMMUNITY--Majority of people were decently nice and friendly. 4/5--PARKING--Insanely hard to leave / get into parking lot. Some people make me question how they got their license.2/5(Character limit, or else I would would write more, sorry)

A great school in a great area. Lots of support for students. I graduated in 2914 and despite being very different and having disabilities, I was never bullied. Most people were very kind overall. The arts are great here, especially choir and band.

This school taught me a lot of things. People are mean. People can destroy a person and leave them in pieces. I'm not exaggerating. I had an emergency surgery from being beaten by bullies every day. I nearly failed my freshman year there. I moved to a new school and got straight A's in all my classes. Scored above average on my SAT test. Made friends. Things I could never do at Trumbull high school. Never go to this school. The superintendent is hiding all the horrors of this school and just stealing people's money and time.

Since I graduated THS and my nieces and nephews go to school here, I have not seen any growth in the academic programs.

Graduated in 2011. This school is great if you're into sports, or if you take Honors or AP classes. Doing both is even better. If you were like me however, the newspaper, school play, Broken Shells, and chorus was your passion. I was in mostly average classes, but my science and math classes were low. It was called 200 my freshman year, and then became college prep. My average classes were 300, but became advanced college prep. It wasn't always great being part of the "other" group of kids, since it made me feel disconnected from the school at times, but I had a fantastic time being a creative high schooler. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I always knew that Trumbull High was a great school to go to, because of the low amount of violence, but I never felt at home. I also had less money than most of the kids in school, which really made it tough to make friends. Most of my friends were out of town kids who attended Trumbull High's agriscience program. Almost all of my close friends were in it, while I was not. They were some of the nicest kids in school, so that's why we were friends. I was always grateful to be in a safe school, but it did have it's incident's. I would give it an 8 out of 10. 7 at the lowest. Nothing below a 7 though.

In some ways THS is a reasonable large public high school. I am impressed with the guidance counselor that I have found to be very wise and helpful. AP courses definitely have the best teachers and my kids have enjoyed them. The math department is inadequate, however, and I have also had the experience of a teacher promising a particular class depending on grades and then going back on the promise. None of my kids have had excellent, or even good, math teachers. In one of the classes this year 75% of the class failed the final. When I called the school they said that wasn't true, despite the fact that the class had been berated by the administration already. There are four HUGE problems, apart from academics, in the school-the first: discipline. For the teachers to report someone, it is very unwieldy, so teachers don't report, either cheating, lying or vaping with e-cigarettes. Vaping is rampant in school, in front of teachers. In classes, this means that the teachers don't reprimand students even if they are being disruptive. No one gets sent out of classes as far as I can tell. Second: diversity, as people below said, is very problematic. There are no training programs; no one seems to mind who says what to whom and the atmosphere can be quite toxic. Three: the band. The school invests a lot of time, money and energy into the band at the expense of other things. Band kids get favored and are let off assignments when they are too busy. If they spent more time on training the math teachers and less on band, I think it would be very useful. Talking of money-we haven't had a full time district coordinator of curriculum for a while. The town spent $90,000 on someone to oversee the parks and golf course, however! This is the wrong emphasis. The Board of Education does not solicit feedback from the parents and neither does the school. Four: the school is very crowded and claustrophobic when classes transition. My daughter is constantly getting shoved and pulled with her backpack.

Trumbull HIgh is a very large school that offers an amazing number of activities; drama, athletics, marching band and clubs. It's a perfect school for those who are confident and assertive. It will be a LONELY 4 years if you go in with few friends and are shy and don't make yourself participate in after school activities. Participating is the only way of making close friends since the school is so large. Academically i have no complaints. My daughter is in honors and AP classes and has great teachers. She had an issues in a couple of classes and my emails were answered immediately. Her guidance counselor was also very responsive. A rating of 5 would be in order if you are basing it only on test scores.. I rate it a 3 since this school is definitely not for everyone and there is a certain lack of that community feel due to its size.

Trumbull High is a 5 star school. I had three kids graduate from there - each went on to a successful collegiate experience and, the two that have already graduated have succeeded in acquiring exceptional employment. All three of my children said the same thing to me, "My senior year at Trumbull High was the best year of my life." Of course, since then, they've had many wonderful years and I'm delighted that they started in Trumbull.

This school is terrible. My son was in Algebra I math class last year. He was told by his teacher, if he got an A average in the class and nothing less than an A- on each of the tests, then he would be in the honors Algebra II class. He did his part, he worked very hard, studied and got the A's. He had checked back in with the head of the math department half way through the year, and they confirmed he would be in the honors Algebra II class if he kept up his grades through year end. The school broke their promise. They told him the honors class was full after he got his final grade of an A (and all A- or above on tests throughout the year). My son worked hard, getting A's all through the year. Trumbull High School math department has an obligation to put him in the Honors Algebra II, but they made excuses. instead they then told him he would have to take yet ANOTHER test, and if he got an A on that..... This also effected his honors chemistry class he was registered in, his science teacher put him in honors chemistry, but the Trumbull school pulled him saying he had to be registered in honors Algebra II. THIS SCHOOL IS TERRIBLE.

I can't tell you how much i love trumbull high. Every single school is going to have it's flaws, and we're blessed that the flaws we do have are so minor.

The school is rated "Great" according to its CAPT scores! That explains why the administration of the High School as well as the Board of Education do their best to ignore the myriad of serious issues the school faces. Anyone who has not sipped the Kool Aid knows that THS is mediocre at best for anyone other than the top 30 or so students per grade. The curriculum is not available to the public--why?, the faculty is inconsistent (except for those teaching the AP courses) in their overall quality and their professionalism, the facilities are poor given the amount of taxes the town collects, the sports programs are pay-to-play and the funds are so unevenly distributed as to discourage a critical-thinking student's participation, and the town politics regarding education are embarrassing to any of those people who are "life-long learners" or "critical thinkers", which THS purports to create. Recommendation: All new THS administration (and BOE for that matter) replace about 1/2 of the teachers, and write a curriculum that reaches beyond the meager goals of high CAPT scores and a handful of highly-ranked college/university acceptances per year. THS earns, at best, a C-.
