The Oakland School is amazing! Sending our daughter to Oakland has been the best decision we ever made. Our daughter is happy, full of confidence, and has made so much progress in a short amount of time academically and social-emotionally. When I attended the first parent meeting in the Fall some of the returning parents described Oakland as magical. Within weeks we could definitely see why. Oakland is a magical place for struggling learners. I can’t imagine sending our daughter to any other school. We are grateful for the opportunity to attend Oakland.

Oakland School has been a great option for our son the past 1.5 years. Initially he was just enrolled for the 2020 summer camp to boost his reading skills which were over a grade level behind. Summer camp was just the right blend of academics and fun. It was such a good experience that we decided to enroll him for his 3rd (and now 4th) grade years. His reading and language arts abilities have grown tremendously thanks to Oakland's small class sizes, 1-1 assistance, and knowledge of how to work with kids who are bright but may have lagged behind due to learning differences or short attention spans. Academic focus is a priority, but is balanced by lots of time being active and outdoors. Homework is reasonable, not every day, and a manageable amount. Staff knows each child personally. The school is warm, welcoming, safe, and friendly.

Education at this school is amazing, what they offer students with social, emotional, and physical disabilities is great. I had a big problem with the residential program. No background checks or drug testing for residential staff. Very expensive to board a student. Residential life lacked basic amenities.

I loved it. I was a student here in 1997 - 2000 an it taught me so much. I am thankful for being able to attend Oakland.

This school is a rare find. My son's life has been transformed by this school. Within a few months we are seeing significant improvements in all subjects. He is excited to share what he has learned and his favorite subject is reading. Small classroom environment, the individualized attention and hands on learning are part of academic life. The teachers "know" and care for each child. Exceptional school and life changing, no price can be placed on that.

Oakland school takes their motto of "one child at a time" seriously. They individualize each child's education to bring out the ability in each student. When my child attended Oakland for the first time she was struggling with the most basic concepts and reading far below her grade level. After one summer program we saw not only a huge improvement in her scores, but her self confidence and desire to learn had skyrocketed as well. Now that my daughter is a full time student she regularly tells me how much she loves going to school and how excited she is to learn the curriculum. She is reading at grade level and excelling in her math classes. Oakland School will always have a place in our hearts as the school that saw the potential in my daughter and helped her see it to!

My daughter has experienced success at Oakland School. The low student:teacher ratio, the beautiful farm setting the individualized instructional plans and the nurturing environment make Oakland unique. It's a true testimony when my daughter always says at the beginning of a school break, "I wish I was still in school!"

Oakland School offers the best boarding / summer program in the state! They give the individualized attention that all students need, and they do it in an extremely fun way. The grounds are beautiful! The staff is kind! And every one there is extremely happy to be a part of such a great community!

"THE BEST SUMMER EVER"-these wonderful words were spoken by our son after attending camp at Oakland School. The individualized program was exactly what he needed to excell. He has always worked on grade level. However, with the skills and confidence gained at Oakland, he is now thriving! With the help of audio books introduced at Oakland (Kindles in the classrooms), he completed his first novel this summer and, now, actually WANTS to read! He has always loved Math, but is quick to tell everyone that Math is SUPER FUN at Oakland! One of the greatest academic areas of growth we noticed as parents was in written language. He completed a composition course during the summer that not only focused on sentene structure, grammar, research, formatting, editing, and keyboarding but it incorporated our son's interests, enthusiasm and learning style which allowed him to accept new challenges, built confidence and ensured success. We are beyond pleased with the academics at Oakland and equally as pleased with the camp classes. Sports, swimming, art, nature and horseback riding made the experience feel like camp and learning feel like fun! We are counting down the days until next summer!

- neglected our child - did not teach him anything - promised that students would be able to read ANY word by the end of the program - which was not true - the staff could not handle minor problems and freaked out over something as simple as a child's homesickness

Oakland School is an amazing school and has made a life difference for our son. The teachers are incredibly caring and proactive. Whereas in public schools our son was lucky to complete half a year of content in a year, at Oakland he is accomplishing 1.5 years of content each year. The low student teacher ratio makes all the difference, and the teachers truly work as a team. The farm setting is beautiful and low key. But the school does push the kids. Oakland fundamentally understands that all of us have gifts and that we need to accentuate those gifts and learn to work around our weaknesses. In the public schools that our son went to, they basically just focused on the weaknesses and we knew our son was capable of so much more. The improvement in our son s confidence and self esteem over the last two years has been amazing. The school has worked hard to improve parent outreach over the last two years and it shows. They are also working to integrate more digital tools, but have to balance that against a fundamental back-to-basics that has worked for decades. We strongly recommend that anyone with a bright kid that needs to overcome a challenge like dyslexia to consider Oakland.
