I leave this review in the hopes that the leaders of this institution will self-reflect and do better to embrace the virtues of fairness and equality. This is a good school if you are either not affected or choose to keep your head down when faced with racism and/or discrimination. We decided to transfer our son after 2 years due to daily racial undertones and obscene episodes that were simply ignored when presented to staff/administration. He is not the first, only or last student to leave this school for the same reasons. Our son is a model student and I don't choose these words lightly. He is an 'A' student, athlete and overall fine young man. Not that it should matter, but we are also full tuition paying parents. There are some good people here who I am sure recognize these issues and would support change. For the sake of its current and future students, and surrounding communities, I hope the change in leadership will also spark a cultural overhaul.

I am an alumnus of Calvert Hall who graduated in 1978. CHC taught me most of the life skills (above & beyond a normal High School would) to be successful in both my professional and personal life. The Brothers and lay teachers were always attentive to any questions or concerns that students would bring up and go out of their way to help explain & give guidance. The college preparatory scheduling really helped me with budgeting my time for academics, extra circular activities and recreation. I found this helpful later for both my undergraduate B.S. degree and M.B.A. And priority was given from day one to respect both other students and the CHC staff. I highly recommend a tour of CHC and meeting with the academic advisors for any prospective student.

The school prepares individuals for college level courses by having weekly lecture halls, an upper level curriculum, and personalized day-to-day schedules.

If you child is taking Honors and AP courses, it is worth paying the tuition for this school. If not, don't spend your money. There are teachers that genuinely care about the students and take time to work with them. The administration is filled with homo-phobes. If your son is gay, do NOT send him to this school as he will be treated disrespectfully by the administration. Even though this is 2015, they are one place that is NOT tolerant of anyone that doesn't "fit their mold". Academically the honors program and AP classes are top notch.

I cannot say enough good things about Calvert Hall College HS. My son is a Sophomore this year, and I wanted to write this review because I don't think we are what most people consider a "typical" Calvert Hall family. We are not Catholic, and my son is not athletic. I'll admit I had reservations when we first applied, but they were quickly put aside when I saw what a great school this is. The boys are required to take religion courses and attend Mass occasionally, but he never feels marginalized or like anyone is proselytizing. There is an ever-present culture of kindness at this school. Obviously, sports are a huge part of Calvert Hall, but there are so many other activities available that my son's lack of interest in sports is no big deal. I've seen so much growth on his part since he started attending this school. He is learning to advocate for himself; a direct result of the staff being dedicated and responsive to the students. He is being challenged academically, enjoys all of his classes, and likes his teachers. He talks with me about what he's learning all the time, definitely a good sign! Opting to send my son to CHC was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
