I loved this school! The teachers are very nice and supportive, and the school is big and provides both stairs and ramps for the children with disabilities. I know some people don't like this school at all, but I think I had a different experience from them. I was a magnet student in all GT/AA courses and the environment was pretty good, classes were around 10-30 students (depending on level.) The only issue I had with it was the students. Some students chose to be disrespectful and violent towards others, but if your child avoids these people, then they will have a great time here. Currently, the school is slightly unorganized due to one of the teachers who ran 8th grade history, finance, and magnet programs passed away (we miss you Mrs. St. Pierre!) But many teachers are working incredibly hard to prepare these students for the history MCAP test and high school.

I used to attend this school and let me tell you: DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. I left without learning anything and with trauma and anxiety. In my experience, do not send your child to this school. The bathrooms are obscenely filthy and generally inappropriate, the students are terrible, and neither the councilors nor the teachers do anything about it. The programs are not all that; if possible, send your child to a better school. The administration appears to not care, as they have done nothing to fix these issues despite numerous complaints, and these schools are not safe. The school did nothing about the boy who was sexually harassing the girls. He was suspended for only five days for inappropriately touching a girl and has yet to be expelled. The administrators promised to take action but never followed up. This lack of response from the administration is concerning, as it gives students the message that this kind of behavior is tolerated and accepted.

Not a good school at all. The things my son tells me about some of the things that happen here I can't believe it

Admin is responsive and clear. You can tell the staff cares about the students AND the families.

Everything has been horrible, from the bullying to the teachers and there’s no communication at all

This school has no control over the students. My son is a A B Honor roll student and this had been a complete downgrade for him. Please re-evaluate this school. A 5 score is pushing it.

Poor in actual behavior management and average in education

Send your kids elsewhere, if at all possible. This school has developed a thuggish student body where bullying and harassment are tolerated. The administration isn't controlling the students and is not fostering a positive environment for learning. The culture of the school is poor and that's attributable to the leadership. Things are particular bad at change of classes and at lunch.I feel bad for the good kids who are stuck here. A lot of these kids went to good elementary schools like Hampton or Cromwell Valley and are thrown to the wolves here. Most of those kids end up going to one of the local private or Catholic schools for grades 6, 7, and 8 to avoid this place.

The staff members don't promote a healthy environment. I didn't care for the way the staff talked to me. One teacher uses fear as a educational tool. My child was in tears one night, his math homework ran long leaving very little time for other subjects. He said the teacher was going to yell at him. He was so upset he begged me not to say anything, believed it would make the teacher mad at him. There were altercations with 3 other students in two different classes with the teachers in the room and I was never told. While sitting at a table one boy came up behind him and punched him twice, and my son was suspended. This is when my child tells me about the previous issues. I asked the principal to find out why nothing was done that could have stopped the esculation of this violence. When I met with the principal he said one of the teachers knows how to handle these issues and does a good job. Yet no one knew and nothing was done after repeated attacks. I was told that if my son had swung back at the other child even in self defense and hit the teacher he would have been expelled from Baltimore County Schools. I pulled him out of LRTA 43 days into the school year. It was appalling, disgraceful and they should be ashamed of their selves. These poor children are going to be statistics. They will not reach their full potential in an environment that promotes negativity and fear from both students and staff. I just see how the world is with everyone going against each other, this is a very influential time in our children's lives. We need to do better, we need to be better.

My child in in GT and in magnet program. While some kids on regular classes have some attutide, other kids keep thier mind straight. Great teachers in all grade levels. If kid wants to have good grades- he/she can do it.

In 2014 my daughters both started their experience at LRTA in the middle of the school year because we moved from the county. After a week at the school my daughters liked it. Once incident occurred with a male student off the bus and I contacted the school. Mrs. Johnson quickly responded and handled the situation. I haven't had a issue since. The Art teacher saw the talent in my daughter and advocated for her to be in GT Art for the next school year even though the cut off had passed. My daughter who struggled with math for many years grew to a B average because her teacher took the time to invest in her. Both of my daughters have had great experiences at LRTA. Both are in classes that challenge them. The music program is awesome. There is no perfect school, they all have their issues with student's, parent's and teacher's. I love LRTA and I can't wait for my son to arrive.

All schools have some issues, but this school doesn't get the credit it deserves for the positive things. Most people focus on the few negative things. Loch Raven Academy is a great school with many positive things going on. If you want to see some of the positive things going on follow them on twitter. They are @LochRavenAcad.

We were optimistic about this school when we first started. Seeing what happens even in the GT program, where students are unruly and teachers spend more time disciplining than educating, we have had to change our assessment. Bullying and theft are a problem in the school. The school suffers from a lack of parent and student concern and involvement, which teachers and the administration seem to be fighting with little to no success.

This school is great. The community tends to have a perception of the school that is based on the past. The magnet programs are awesome and so are the teachers and the leadership.

My daughter attends this school and loves it. There are bully issues but she has not faced any herself. I'm not sure that academically the school is maintaining the skill level of students entering the school over time. I looked at the test scores and see an interesting trend that students in 6th grade were doing well and by the time they get to the 8th grade they are doing worse in terms of percent proficient. Be careful how you view rising test scores. Compare 2012 sixth grade proficiency to their subsequent proficiency in 2013 7th grade. They are losing ground. Sixth grade is still a benefit from elementary. Something is amiss and I am concerned my daughter may lose what was gained in elementary if the instruction is not preparing the students. My daughter has complained that some teachers are not effective. They don't make sure students understand. It's hard to get help from the same person who is confusing you. I have to teach my child at home sometimes what teachers are not making clear. This school could be great if parents advocate for their students.

Loch Raven Tech Academy is a good school that could be great. However, there is a BIG problem with bullying and the administration tends to ignore the problem and good students suffer. Some have even transfered out!

My son is currently in 8th grade. It is well managed and challenge the kids to excel. The growth in test scores is fantastic and the kids are happy.
