This school's students are atrocious. My peers here are mismanaged and extremely disrespectful, often racist, and extremely unprepared, and seniors somehow have the right to bully people and get away Scott-free because of senior privilege, the freshmen are very annoying and disruptive, and many people vape. The staff varies from literally corrupt to actually trying to do their job, the punishment system is rigged, they force you to put your phones into stupid little pouches and will take and hold your device until a parent picks it up for you if you fail to comply. The punishment worsens more and more until you reach expulsion. The food here can vary and thus far has been good aside from many cases of spoiled milk being handed out. The lunch ladies try their best, be nice to them.Special ed kids are treated like rabid animals here by kids in regular curricular teachings and frankly if you decide to put your kid into this school while they need special needs for whatever cursed reason, there are two groups for them:- Thrive Program- Life SkillsFights are common and so are rumors. They regularly host events and such but unfortunately they are not talked about much. The admins are amazing people and are very worth talking to.They give out MacBook Airs, which sounds good at first until you realize that:- They are easy to break.- They are costly if broken, even a little.- You have to pay 50 dollars for temporary coverage on the first accident.(these tend to literally kill themselves i kid you not)- And your child can do things they are not supposed to do on there very easily. All in all, this school isnt worth it, there are many better options, but if you dont have any other options, and have to send your kid here, support them all the way through, it'll be rough. Thank you for reading.

My son loves his school. He has been attending Torrington High for 4 years now. Teachers and staff are so wonderful as well. Wish we could be here for the new school.

Our experience has been very positive. The teachers really care and go above and beyond. The administration is very open and works with the student and parents.

For any student to be successful, they need the support of both parents and the education system. It is sad to see that there are too many parents now days that simply don't spend the time necessary to ensure that their child has the full support that they need to succeed. Instead there are too many parents complaining about the educational system because they expect the schools to not only teach their children but essentially raise them as well. So they will come online and post negative comments without really presenting any solutions and never see themselves as part of the problem. I will say as someone who has graduated from this HS two decades ago, and currently has a child attending with two more attending soon in the years to come, that this High School does not offer anything less than other HS in the state. I may sound as if I am part of the BOE, but I assure you that I am not. I am a parent who tells it how he sees it, rather than post bad reviews to point fingers only in the direction of the education system. We are excited for the new Junior/Senior HS to be built and are happy and proud to be part of the Raiders team in this Town.

Having gone to the high school myself, and now having a child there I can see that in the 15 plus years that I have since graduated that things have only gotten worse for our children in this city. The curriculum, the administration, the lack of accountably for students and their actions in regards to bullying and the lack of parent/administration contact and support when it comes to special needs children is something that should not be tolerated from any tax payer in this city.

It's a useless school for kids, they can't handle the kids and I don't think they want too

Totally unimpressed with THS. The facilities are delapidated. They removed the principle last year and implemented 4 administrators who don't seem to have a handle on academics. My son is unable to bring his text book home to study because of "limited resources." They have been unable to hire an adequate Italian teacher although have no answers when asked if there were any candidates and what the plan was with students who were enrolled in Italian. While having that conversation with an "adminstrator" he's scrolling through his cell phone. Surprised more parents aren't angry about the school quality.

Terrific school. We have seen many students leave here and go on and do great things.
