The school is very cliquey. Kids are left out all the time and parents just act like they have no idea. Most teachers are wonderful. I wish they did a better job of choosing students.

As a graduate of the Hackley School Class of 2022, and a student that has bounced around many schools during my educational career, I have to say that attending Hackley was undoubtedly one of the best choices I've ever made. My time at Hackley was spent creating found memories socially, and being pushed to the limits academically (in a good way :D). I met some of the most well-read and scholarly teachers I ever had, and the best of which out of this bunch have not only become close friends and mentors of mine but have also inspired a lifelong purpose of learning that I will never lose. They have pushed me to explore and fall in love with new academic fields beyond my wildest imagination merely a few years back. These relationships will certainly last a lifetime.Though almost all of Hackley's curriculums are known for their rigor, the Hackley English curriculum is at another level of difficulty as compared to top schools in the nation. If you choose to attend this school, know that you will suffer in constant frustration. But also know that on the other side you'll emerge as a greater and more sophisticated scholar. Many college-aged alums attending top institutions have reflected to me that college writing is a piece of cake compared to Hackley's English curriculum. The friends you'll make here will also last. I found some of my closest friends despite being initially quite introverted, and eventually even took on quite a few leadership positions in the school. They are some of the kindest, most brilliant, and most talented individuals you'll find anywhere. That isn't to say Hackley doesn't have its issues socially. Many students have lived wealthy their whole lives and are thus consequently immersed in their own understanding of the world that may not be entirely reflective of the social circumstances of the society, a term we quite reluctantly coin "The Hackley Bubble." But all things given, you'll find good friends in your peers always. The athletics at Hackley are not the most competitive, but we do produce numerous D-1 athletes for a graduating class of roughly 100 people each year. The small class size not only translates to a good education but also plenty of athletic and extracurricular opportunities for students who have no experience to participate. As someone who wasn't an athlete coming in, I'm glad to have become one in my time here. All and all, I'm extremely happy to have graduated as a Hornet on this Hudson hilltop!

Everyone you ask will tell you that Hackley has by far the best sense of community anyone will find, anywhere. More importantly, Hackley challenges students, and creates a norm of being academic and pushing limits among students. In other words, it makes a challenging school environment feel comfortable, normal, and even fun with slight competition.

Very caring faculty that pays attention to each student's individual needs. The Lower School culture emphasizes openess, fairness and equality. Top-notch facility. Highly engaged parent community.

My two children had exceptional K-12 experiences at Hackley. The academic rigor is not for all, but it pays off for those that apply themselves. Several top college admissions directors have said to me that they believe, of the NY metro-area schools, Hackley provides the best prepared college candidates.

Our child had a bad experience at Hackley. The pressure, the lack of differentiated curriculum, the unresponsiveness to bullying, and a very unresponsive teacher had our child's self-esteem and confidence in ruins after three years. Happily, she's thriving at her new school, both academically and socially. She loves to go to school now. We expected more in terms of nurturing and attention to learning styles and modern teaching techniques. Any problems we encountered were attributed wholly to us, the school did very little to make our daughter's experience better.
