This is not a well run school and lacks leadership.

Spark school has worked out great for us, the creativity I've seen bloom in my child from Spark's teaching methods is amazing. I did not see this from my child's three years in the Sunnyvale District, but do in just two years at Spark. In the project-based learning, my child child is often excited at breakfast time talking about the next design phase and all the great ideas my child has and will bat around in the student group. My child is also proud how it is their voice and choice in how they work and create.I will say, the administration moves fast on things as they're still in startup mode as the school is only in it's third year of operations. That can make things feel hectic at times, but it also means things are adjusted now. Not "we'll take a look at that for next year" [if ever] that you'd get at a district on auto pilot. From a negative review below, I'd say: Spark is a new school in Sunnyvale and still in its "start-up" phase. That means some parents aren't quite sure how this new program will be different from the mono-approach Sunnyvale School District but they tried and Spark just wasn't a good match to what they wanted in the end. People often say jilted, one sided things when they're asked for some special or unusual thing just for them and got denied. Maybe that happened here?

Amazing school and community. Our kids loves to go to school every day. Teachers are very dedicated and wonderful. Kids are learning so much through different creative and fun teaching methods and are improving both academically and emotionally.

Have been at this school since its opening and I can’t say I hope its charter gets renewed in good faith. Luckily my children’s teachers are okay this year, otherwise, we would have pulled our children out months ago. Even if the school gets renewed, we will not be returning. The superintendent Mr. Mahoney and board of directors are all highly unorganized and help make the school turn worse in all directions. The superintendent helped destroy what the school should have and could have been. When parents have genuine concerns about their children, he does not follow up and is very out of touch. Unresponsive to emails and phone messages left for him. Complain to the board of directors and they won’t follow up or take any action either. Same small group of parents who help do everything. Lack of, or no effective communications at the school at all from the superintendent, and always last-minute communications from the board. No regards or respect from leadership to the parents at this school. Social Emotional Learning and if it’s taught properly is highly questionable, as my kids have been acting more entitled and difficult to deal with the longer we stay. Music and Mandarin were both cut this year. Highly disappointing and wasted efforts for all of the families who wished the school well. I would not recommend this school for anyone who care about the overall welfare of their child’s education. Great teachers can only go so far when the rest of the school has many debilitating cons.

Teachers are very caring and organized. My son is in 2nd grade. He enjoys school and I can see he makes progress not only in academy but in different areas.

My children have had the privilege of homeschooling, which means an individualized educational plan, taught to their unique learning styles. My oldest homeschooled until college, so I never thought we would do anything else.I'm thrilled to have found a school that not only offers a learning environment that uses an individualized learning approach, they also offer so much more! My daughter participates in integrated project based learning, with a focus on community leadership. Mentoring, and modeling positive behavior and life skills are part of the core educational philosophy at Spark.I'm very glad we decided to give Spark a try, and I'm excited and thrilled to see my daughter continue to thrive there!

My Kindergartner loves going to school. The teacher makes a huge effort to work with his boisterous nature and keep him engaged. The other parents are very friendly. Really happy with our choice of school!

Amazing, simply amazing. My child is in first grade. He used to hate going to school. What child in Kindergarten hates going to school? My child. It was a fight every morning to get him ready to go to school. Now he can't wait to get up in the morning and go to school. He was struggling and lagging behind in his reading, math and writing at his previous school of which now he is now flourishing in all three areas. The curriculum at this school makes learning fun and interesting so if your child is bored at their current school and it is affecting their performance, this school may be the answer. It certainly was for my child and we are grateful for it.

I'm so thankful to have found Spark. Children get the individual attention that is so often lacking at "regular" public school and the project-based approach is much better suited to the modern world. The feeling of community at Spark is also incredible.

Time and again we are reassured we made the right decision leaving our neighborhood school for Spark. Thank you Spark administration and teachers!!

My son loves the school. My husband and I love it as well. It's hard to list all of the aspects where my son is benefiting from this school. Just felt so lucky to have it around us.

This school has been a godsend to us. I am absolutely convinced that this is the best of all places for my kindergartner. The school is able to teach not just rote passing the test but I also can testify that they teach teamwork and social skills. My kindergartner told me "I wish I could go to school seven days a week." The after school program is great, too. Much better than the cupertino schools. There is a real closeness among the families and students that I havent seen before. It goes way, way beyond a PTO.And the math program is great. Truly great.

This school is exceptional..... the staff is friendly, caring, and compassionate to the children and put their needs first. They foster a learning environment that encourages children to think, problem solve, and be independent thinkers. I highly recommend this school for all these reasons! In addition, the new principal is an outstanding leader who has a hands on approach to the students and staff.

Spark is an up-and-coming school, with strong leadership, teachers who love kids and are patient and effective. My daughter's had such a positive experience with school, and is really enjoying learning. I'm just thrilled, because it's so important to me that she LIKES learning and doesn't dread school like so many unfortunately do.

We love the school: teachers are approachable and work with all learning styles; our children love going to school; everyone knows each other; the principal has a great vision and is building bridges with the community; the parent community is very involved; personalized teaching. We switched our 2 daughters from our highly-rated neighborhood public school to Spark, and prior to starting were not sure if we'd made the right choice. From day 1, we knew this was the right choice. Our girls are very engaged and doing well academically while getting exposure to arts, PE, Mandarin and more. We like the approach which uses experiential learning to get to a deep understanding of concepts. Our daughters made friends quickly and the students are very supportive of each other. The school encourages parent participation both in the classroom and with enrichment activities. This has been a very enjoyable part of being at Spark. The after-school program is also excellent and follows similar principles.
