Vargas is an amazing school. All of the staff and teachers are kind and friendly. They are encouraging and truly love teaching and want to help their students. Vargas is such a great community and cares deeply about helping each and every one of their students reach the highest level of success each one can do. I would definitely recommend attending Vargas; the community they have will become a safe home and family to each.

I would not hesitate to recommend Vargas. We applied through open enrollment because we liked the science program and have been at the school since 2018. We are very happy with our decision. Both our kids are very excited to visit the science lab and are proud Vargas Dolphins. The school community is diverse, the teachers really care and social-emotional development is emphasized which is especially important this year as kids return to school from the pandemic. I have been very happy with communication from the school, all our children's teachers, the Principal Mrs. Armstrong, and all the support staff. It is a great community.

The Principal( Mrs A) is uncaring and only cares about Title 1 funding. She doesn't care about improving the school or benefit the students.

Principal Mrs. Armstrong, vice principal Mr. Austin, all teachers and stuff are very professional and friendly! They focused on encouraging students to learn and parents to be involved into their children's life. Our family and especially my son are glad to be part of such an amazing community!

I'm very happy with my daughter's four years here. The administration and the teachers care deeply about the students who are from a wide variety of backgrounds and from countries all over the world. Whether your student is brand new to English or has advanced proficiencies, they will provide all the resources your child needs, just ask.

This school has been improving and changing each year. Teachers are passionate, resourceful, and kind. Even without the funding like some of the other schools in the district, they have monthly events for reading and/or science. After school oppprtunities are improving.

Our experience at Vargas was average. The office staff although not always friendly they did try to get you the information that you needed. The school however is a tad bit unorganized compared to say Cherry chase or CUSD Schools. The PTA is non existent although they do have one. Unfortunately parent involvement with the PTA is low due to language barriers I assume and the lack of organization. Combo classes the teachers seem frazzled and have low to no communication with parents. The resource team although very knowledgeable they are small. I feel the teachers do tend to favor children who do not need the extra help. I am hoping this next year will be better. There really is a big gap in communication between staff and parents. One thing that was very disappointing was their no party policy. My child's previous school was all about academics but when it came to holidays the parents would always organize a small party for their class and I noticed that at Vargas some did it quietly while others blamed the Principal for not wanting parties in class, which I feel is horrible. Children need some "Fun"! Also compared to other schools they do not have many extracurricular activities. I researched schools in the area and most have dance, drama, choir, art, computer etc in a rotation. I noticed that the PTA takes care of this with funds. More planning maybe and a better outreach with raising funds and getting the word out. Overall the school has potential to be great academically and personally. Organization and Communication is key!

This school has great teachers and a hard working principal. My child learned the basics quickly in KG and was given option to move to 2nd grade. We were elated, but politely declined. In any school, it is up to the parents, how they spend their time with kids, supplementing and supporting for their child's education. I was amazed to learn about science and math initiatives at this school. Their reading program is really encouraging as well.

I have had a child at Vargas for the last 5 years, and have loved it! I have never met a more involved and hard working principal. She truly knows and loves those kids. The teachers are amazing. They are so dedicated and show an invested interest in each child, no matter their level. I have loved every teacher my kids have had. The only thing I wish was improved was the involvement of the parents. If each parent helped out more, these kids would have more opportunities. I wish everyone could experience this school...especially those who make judgments about it without ever attending. Go Vargas!

When my son entered 4th grade this year at Vargas, we, as a family, made the mistake of reading the previous years reviews online. They were strewn with negative connotations, concerns over the direction of school officials, and mostly just bad mouthing a forgotten school. Boy...how things change in a year. Our son has flourished....made great friends...found a teacher who believes in and encourages him...and he has adopted an extremely positive attitude towards school. The staff has been excellent from day one and we see a school on the rise again. Don’t judge a book by its cover folks....get to Chapter 2 before making assumptions. Dolphin pride is alive and well....
