Was a former student here, which no I will not reveal my actual identity and name I used at this school. However I can not stress enough how awful this school was from my experience. Sure there are nice teachers and sure I adore the counselors with all my heart however, the consequences given here are ridiculous. There's barely any consequences for students who constantly start trouble, they will only be given a suspension and nothing more- keep in mind we are talking about troublemakers who will bully your children. They talk about "wanting to keep this a safe place for your children" or "for you" yet the consequences given here are terrible. Not only does this go for students but the teachers get away with terrible things as well. One of the math teachers gave my friend a lower score for no reason when my friend was actually right, now this might sound like some mistake however truly it isn't, my other friends have talked about her and how this sounds like something she would do, meaning she does this to other students as well. What's worse? One of the PE teachers from when I was there did awful actions, such as touching my friend inappropriately and getting away with it. Yes, my friend did speak out about this to the office, what did they do? Nothing, he still kept his job and that's extremely alarming. This isn't a one time thing, other students have talked about his strange behavior towards the students as well. Not only that but the cafeteria food wasn't all that great... however that's merely an opinion and not a fact so that's the least of my concerns, everything else is more severe. There are students constantly fighting in this school or calling each other names or even slurs, I had to deal with a whole lot of racism when I was here. So please, as a former student, take my advice and turn away. There are a whole lot of choices that are better than this school, save your child and enroll them in another school. With all love, Cross.

Better schools in the district. This just happens to be the worst one. I went to William Faria Elementary, and I thought there was too much homework. There is just too less. Not preparing us for high school.

A very good school but need to improve in teacher training.

It is an okay school, but the teachers don’t care about what the students do. The idea of a block day is pretty dumb. The kids swear and the teachers have no idea. Older kids bull the younger kids, and the teachers have no idea.

After 2 years at this school my daughter begged me to be homeschooled. There is a lot of busy work. They rush from class to class every 55 minutes, minus the block day and SS/LA. PE is extremely stressful and not at all reasonable, bordering dangerous (such as running 1 & 2 miles without proper warm up/cool down only once a week and including in very hot weather and sun). Numerous times my daughter came flustered on the border of throw up after 1pm PE class at over 90 degrees weather. There are no lockers other than PE so kids drag a heavy backpack all day. There is a long line at cafeteria for food and sometimes no food left, I had,to,contact cafeteria services at the district and request to increase quantities. In 6th grade there are no real electives, they get rotating wheel, if you don't like choice, too bad. I really dislike the size of the school. Socially it is also very challenging, kids socialize mainly by race group, unfortunately. All together I was very disappointed. It is a factory of grades and homework. My daughter, was very interested in science but complained, there wasn't enough time to complete project she was really interested in. Tests, quizzes, grades, homework. We barely saw her after school she'd sit for at least 1.5-2 hours if not more with homework. She wasn't thrilled with friendships, to say the least. Since there is no play ground she didn't have anything to do, only boys were shooting hoops and she didn't feel comfortable joining, them. Language instruction was mediocre. She took French in 7th grade and the level was awful in my opinion. No grammar and very little vocabulary after the year, and very little homework. I am considering other choices for my current 5th grader.

The staff and teachers are extremely conscientious and go out of their way to make sure kids feel safe and are thriving.

If I had known CMS did not offer a well rounded education I would've never send my child to this glorified math camp. The school is only obsessed with mathematics and grading not education. If your child is not up to par in test scores you will be pressured to send your kid to their "math computer program class". Everyone knows a computer program is better at teaching than a actual human being, (sarcasm). My child was made to skip a grade and is doing well in math yet they want to put him in this "computer math class" because his scores are not 100%. What happened to giving students a well rounded education? I'm sick of schools like CMS that breed non creative people that are not able to problem solve and think outside of the box, not everyone wants to be a number cruncher their whole lives.CMS needs to wake up and stop with their motto of memorization is education because your kids are not learning anything, just memorizing work to pass tests. Ask them how to do a lesson they did a month ago they won't be able to do it, one ear out the other, great job CMS!The teachers take no accountability for anything. I never met so many teachers that have zero organizational skills, never grade anything on time and obviously new to their job. The only positive I can think of is they have a good anti bullying program. Maybe this program should be taught to the parents that I see on a regular basis slapping and beating their kids after school during pick up because they got a bad grade, disturbing!

For the past two school years the campus has been undergoing major expansion. Often the staff seems overwhelmed and tends to manage in a way that in effect "warehouses" students. This said, the teachers are highly qualified. The students generally come from very good homes. Most of the parents are hard working, professional, management...college background. One concern I raised last year was the fact that there are no showers for athletes and PE students. Other schools--such as Peterson Middle and Sunnyvale Middle--have pools and showers on their locker rooms. This is a key way that kids at this age learn about hygiene. This is a problem at CMS. Academically, it's a good school.

Cupertino might not be the best of the best academically, but still this school is outstanding in certain areas, mostly math. In general, the cupertino union school district is probably the best district in California. the top elementary and middle schools already take 2-3 spots in the top 5 schools. one thing i can guarantee is that Cupertino has an amazing sports and activities afterschool. They dominate in sports especially cross country. I REALLY recommend this school if you want good, not just proficient but advanced academic scores, and especially great sports and activities. The mathcounts team here at Cupertino is very strong and has beat out high schools before. Academics isn't everything, you need a balanced school and that's exactly what Cupertino middle is. I 100% guarantee that you will be very impressed with how good the extra sports and extra academics are.

This school is super bad the kids are bad and my kid hate this school. The worst part is they don't have a proper cafeteria. If you are a parent and you are reading this, do not put your child in this school and you have to pay for everything.

I graduated in 2009. I don't know how the school is now, but back then it was great. Some teachers were awesome, some weren't, but the majority of them were good. Academically, very nice, but socially? Boy I hated it. The cliques were strong and I was bullied. The office WILL crack down on bullies if you report them, so please do. When a teacher thought I was getting harassed by some kids, she had the office call me over. That's what really made CMS stand out: the staff's willingness to help you. I had a few mental breakdowns during the year and I always got the help I needed from counselors and teachers. If it wasn't for how rude some students were, CMS would get 5 stars.

Cupertino schools are only as great as your child can learn on their own, get tutoring from outside source, or parents tutor their kids. If you think that coming to this school will make your kids smart or advance him in anyway, then I think you are not on the right path. Your child (ren) want to learn and want to advance is the real secret to doing well in schools. I hear it all too often that some teachers like only the well behave kids and the kids that do not have learning disabilities. The ones that do need help aren't getting the help they need. It is sad.

I was a student at Cupertino Middle School the last three years, and I thought that there were some pretty great teachers there. However that the administration did not do a very good job at all; very little was communicated to the students, staff, or parents. Also, it seemed that the counselors' main job for the entire time i was there was to walk around at brunch and lunch to make sure kids didn't listen to their iPods. The group of students was great though. Overall, great school, not so great administration.
