The Sparta BOE currently spends all its time and financial resources on bogus culture war initiatives such as book banning. The schools are over crowded, resources are being removed, nurses and teachers are being cut or resigning and our children are paying the price. Their ineptitude ended up in a 5.8% tax increase that they had to get county approval for.

Both of my kids had a horrible experience at SHS. Very overrated. Most of the teachers & administrators are miserable. If your child is not in the chosen circle they will not flourish. The students leave a lot to be desired. A lot of shenanigans & bullying just swept under the rug. Don’t believe the hype.

We moved here from Virginia in 2013 and quickly found out that my daughter had some catching up to do in Sparta Middle School. She adapted and then exceled in all her studies. When she got to the high school it was an even better success in both academics and outside the classroom. I cannot tell you how wonderful the teachers and staff are at the High School. They are truly committed to seeing your child succeed. We choose to live in Sparta for the schools and as my daughter nears graduation this year and has been accepted to many colleges, it has proven to be the best decision we could have made for her education.

My children have all graduated from SHS, all have gotten into their #1 choice of colleges and all are having great success in their college careers. SHS is very competitive, and colleges see that by the class rankings. I think the kids who complained in previous comments didn't put in any effort but expected to get by. I would highly recommend SHS and the Sparta community to anyone! With the exception of very few, the teachers are top notch and very willing to help every student succeed and the new principal is all about the kids.

As a student I feel like this school should be akin to a anvil on your back with a led pipe stuck to the heel of your shoe. The moment I got here when I moved it has pushed me to the ground, if you are sick for just a day your grades will plummet the entire semester, it bathes in pushing you in group projects you clearly have no interest in. The buses are a mess, my bus drove past me twice in the first half of the year. The teachers are either the best people ever or so bland you actually want to skip school just so you don't want to speak to them. This school also uses google classroom, so you better expect to do constant work during breaks at home.

I keep reading about how Sparta students don't get into good schools, but I'm a Duke grad. Of my friends who I graduated with, we have Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard, UVA, and Stanford represented. I'm not sure what they're talking about when they say "You'll be lucky to get into Community College."

This school is average. There are highs and lows. Many teachers will support you if you want. If you're lazy, they will not hesitate to let you fall behind. I attend MIT now, and a few of my graduating class also attend Ivy league schools. While I wasn't accepted to MIT due to my being at Sparta high, being in college now, I value what i did learn here. My education here was very good, because my parents decided to make it so. You can go far from being a Sparta graduate, but not without outside help. All in all, Sparta is a good platform to jump off of or fall from, but it really depends on your legs to see how far you land and how well you stand.

I attended Sparta High School and am proud that I went there. The teachers and coaching staff were excellent overall. I participated in cross-country and track. Ms. Lockhart was a fabulous, patient algebra instructor. I felt a part of the school community. GO SPARTA!
