2024 school is overcrowded. There is no art or music classroom to make up for class. 800 or so kids in 400 capacity. That is ridiculous.

The school is overcrowded. They added 7 pre-k classes with almost 15-20 kids in each of them adding yet another 140 kids at least to the already over crowded building. making them have almost 800 kids! class sizes are huge, teachers and kids alike are overwhelmed and overstimulated and it causes delays and frustration in the learning environment. They do not handle situations on the bus nor do they handle bullying within the classroom and school. Everything is brushed under the rug to save reputation and save face. but when a child has problems academically because they ignored a mental issue , that is still not saving anyone's rep or face. It's just not a calm environment. Its a very stressful high anxiety setting for both parents and kids. Once you leave there to move onto the higher up schools it does become a little more organized and less frustrating. Hopefully they'll be able to make some changes in the years to come. very disappointing. We moved here for the school system and wondering why we did that.

Class size is way too large and the school is over crowded. Children can not learn or focus properly. Not enough is being done to help with the disorderly conduct on buses.

This school should not be an accredited institution to teach children. The teachers to include the principle are not qualified to teach and don’t have the right mindset for just about anything. They don’t care what parents think they just want things their way. Not to mention how bad the bus situation is. Last thing, the way they’ve been handling the covid situation is ridiculous and calling snow days for 1 centimeter of snow. The principle needs to resign ASAP.

This school is one step above a penitentiary. The physical plant is old, worn and cold. Declining test scores and bullying are rampant throughout tthe school. Their programs for gifted students is a joke. Regionalizing the school has been a disaster for the community and putting your kid on a bus for an hour is a nightmare. This school has gone downhill fast with no improvement is sight. Had to send our kid to a private school to get out of this place.

Alpine School is now a 3-5th grade school and it is phenomenal. Please disregard postings from 2008 and prior years. Sparta has undergone a major redistricting due to significant budget cuts by NJ Gov. Christie. Teachers had to be let go and the parents stepped up to fill in the gaps. Now two years later Sparta is back on track and I believe both the K-2 and 3-5 schools are wonderful (cannot comments on upper school since my children are younger but I have also heard nothing but good things about the middle 6-8th school). Alpine's Principal Gregory came from the middle school. He runs an efficient operation. Many teachers have master's degrees or have been there a number of years and are experts in their field. They are also very caring. The entire staff is. I have not met one person who didn't fill my children's needs academically or emotionally. I know they have excellent support services for those with special needs. They are trying to strengthen their STEP program for the advanced shining stars with a dedicated full-time teacher. Sparta's superintendent has to go, but I believe Alpine is an excellent school given the resources allocated to it.

We moved to this school district in April of 2011. So far, my children's experiences in the classroom have been positive. I felt inclined to post a comment after reading some of the past negative comments. There has been a major reorganization of the district (in 2010). Alpine is now a gr. 3-5 school with a male principal. There seems to be a good degree of communication with parents (most of it paperless) and my son is doing well. I do not have any complaints about his classroom experience.
