This school is one of the best schools in ohio, and it lives up to that name.

The school purposefully hid diversity and inclusion materials being taught to the students from the parents. Parents contacted the high school principal and the superintendent asking to see these materials after they heard concerning comments from their children; both claimed that the materials were best to be seen AFTER the presentation in order to have "organic conversations" with the students. They claimed parents could always opt their children out of the lessons, yet they refused to share with the parents when the lesson would be taking place; it was only communicated after the lesson was presented to the students. A definition of controversial terms were also never sent to or posted on their website; these were emailed directly to the student only. The principal also sent an email to parents recommending controversial reading and stated they needed to be mindful of their privilege. Lastly, the superintendent claimed he reviewed and approved all of the material, so one has to wonder about the HS principal and the superintendent's judgement. When the school board was contacted, they just sent the parents back to the superintendent, who then sends you back to the principal, who then sends you back to the superintendent. Requested feedback after the lessons from both teachers and students were that the lessons were highly inappropriate to be in a public school setting; the materials were political in nature, were not based on fact, and was put together by the PTA. Several students felt like it was saying that only certain ethnic groups were capable of racism. In addition, the PTA insisted the materials needed to be kept a secret from parents unless you paid to be a PTA member, yet PTA parents were also refused the material. It wasn't until the community came together to share their frustration and disappointment, which included showing samples of the material, at the school board meeting to finally end the secrecy.

Solon Schools are public schools. If you think that you are getting "quality" education at solon schools and the food that solon schools serve in their cafeterias is "healthy", then you should consider yourself as ignorant and brainwashed. Read the details.

I read the reviews on this site 6 years back. Now my child is out of school and its time to provide my take. School district=Corporation. Superintendent=CEO. Principals=Deputy Sheriffs. Assistant Principals=Assistant Sheriffs, Teachers=Employees, Students=Clients. School Board members give an illusion that residents have a say in the functioning of the school. They don't. Curriculum made in Columbus. Solon schools are good, not too good, not too bad. Enjoy the entertainment. Just be glad that its tax free, so far. GLTA.

As the last reviewer mentioned, Solon's students do benefit from a wide variety of educational options and benefits, most notably the AP program. There are several phenomenal teachers at SHS, but there are also a handful of teachers who do not teach, do not five any effort to their job and disrespect students. Half of the administration truly does not care about student education or student opinions at all. SHS is widely known for disrespectful staff and low student morale. More than any other school in the area, Solon's students are extremely critical of the school, the administration and the beauracracy. I would not recommend Solon City Schools (or at least SHS) to any family looking to move to Solon.

I was a part of the Solon school systems from 2000-2007. I went to Orchard, SMS, and finally SHS. Anybody who complains about the Solon school systems is ungrateful for the amazing education they are being given. To go to a school that can provide an array of clubs and activities, orchestra instruments and band uniforms, AP programs, safe sports events, books to take home, fully-stocked libraries with computers, has security guards and cameras that work constantly, has teachers that are more than willing to be available before or after school, has a swimming and diving pool, and a dark room for photo-curious students is a LUXURY. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this school system and do not take it for granted whatsoever.
