My experience has been good with Lewis, not great. Good School facilities, all the specials classes (music, art, library and gym) are great. Friendly, Polite, Respectful office and school staff. The solon school board is very responsive and helpful. The concern or issue I have is they are not challenging the kids enough based on the skills/talent. Focusing just on the test scores is not enough. If a child is gifted ( math , reading or art) then how is the school making sure the child stays gifted? As a parent there is only a limit to what I can do but its the school's responsibility to have a structured plan. I have seen in other schools which is not rated as high as solon schools having a clear plan for the gifted kids and the kids who need help. They create different groups for kids on their skills to provide attention to all kids. Some kids might need more help which is what every parent needs. Every kid is different. It is during elementary years ,we can nurture and make the kids feel confident in whichever level they are. We meet the teacher only once in the beginning of the year (after 1st quarter) for a conference. How will I know how my child is doing throughout the year? I can obviously call and set up a meeting to meet with the teacher but I think its also the school's responsibility to make sure the teacher and parents meet. I don't think the teacher will have a proper understanding of the kids in the beginning I mean there are 22 to 25 kids in a class with one teacher. I don't blame the teachers. We moved to Solon only for the school. We don't regret sending my child here but we would like to see more positive changes.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Lewis.

Both of my kids went to Lewis and our experience there was excellent. Great experienced teachers, tons of educational (i.e.; book fair) and fun events (i.e.; ice cream social) for kids over the years, frequent updates from school staff to parents, engaged and diverse parent group. Grand parents loved attending year end music concerts. I don't remember kids ever complaining about going to school there or any teachers. Lewis Elementary had more of a private school feel. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about moving to North Solon.

I currently(17/18 SY) have a 1st grader at Lewis and she is absolutely thriving in this school. She LOVES everyone! The principal is actively involved and the teachers and staff are so passionate!

We moved to the area specifically for the schools. Our experience has been disappointing. Teachers are often out of the classroom for meetings and inservices (average of about 2 days per week). Teachers are constantly being moved from grade to grade. Specialists, some of whom are wonderful, are leaving. Therefore, we have substitutes and teachers placed in those departments without training or interest in the specialty. Our guidance counselor left and was never replaced. The school's focus is entirely based on test scores. Teachers are encouraged to teach to the test and therefore there is little time or emphasis placed on creativity or independent thinking. With the exception of a few wonderful teachers, I am frustrated and disappointed. Obviously, every child is different. Students who have special needs or are gifted might do well in this district as the school (from what I hear) has outstanding services for those students. Unfortunately, for the kids who are just "typical" the schools fall terribly short. I am thinking about private schools.

Lewis Elementary is a fantastic school. Both of my children have enjoyed this school and its many extras such as spirit days, student/parent breakfasts, a spring carnival, ice cream socials and holiday parties throughout the year. The teachers are very involved with their students as is the principal. The parent volunteers are helpful as well. It is truly a community school in that so many are involved to help all achieve.
