If you agree that children as young as age 6 should be put in a straight jacket/restraint, dragged down the hall screaming youre hurting me over and over (trying to free themselves of this hurtfulness) because crying of missing their parent was disturbing to class...then this school might be for you and your child/children. parent witnessing this dragging of child. Bruises to arms, scratches to face and the lengthy recover time for this child of what school can mean mentally and physically if you feel sad emotions not dealt with properly. Parents and Childrens rights??? Apparently this is allowed in our childrens schools. Child removed from school and doing wonderful in private program where love, kindness and trust are #1. Best of luck too all...I truly pray this never happens to any child.

My daughters are in grades 4 and 2 and have been going to Smithsburg Elementary since Kindergarten. We absolutely love this school. The teachers and leadership have very great communication. If I ever have a question, or concern, they're very fast to respond to my call/email. The teachers and students have a very special bond, and the kids know teachers of various grades even if they have never had that teacher in class. This school sets a high bar for the rounded, warm environment kids need.

I'm very shocked that GreatSchools only give this school a 6 out of 10 as its a Blue Ribbon Award School which I understand is not easy to obtain. While good schools, the middle school, high school and other elementary schools in this district haven't achieved this award status. This school district has always been one of if not the top school in the county. The sports programs in this school district, which begin in this elementary school are been one of the best of the state. Unfortunately the music program has suffered over the past 25 years which is a shame as 20 to 40 years ago used to be among the top in the state. Achieving superior ratings everywhere they went. But, music instructors, especially with the marching bands changed and things suffered. However, I hear things are once again back on track to return this school district to its outstanding music level again. Overall, if looking for a top notch school district you can't go wrong with this one. A person would have to go to private schools to receive any better.

This school is an outstanding school that not only offers great education, but also a small town, loveable feeling. They made my kids and i feel welcome when we moved here. I wouldnt trade this experience for any other school.

Our daughter attends the AM Pre-K program and we are ecstatic. We could not have chosen a better teaching staff for our child. Right now I feel like they have already surpassed getting her ready for next year. I can not speak for the other grades, but if they are even remotely like our daughters class then I would be proud to send my other child there. Mrs. L and Mrs. H, thank you!
