Amazing small school with excellent programs for the children

Cascade Elementary is a great public school. The classes are small, more one on one time for the students. Teachers and staff are on a first-name basis with parents, and communicate well. In my personal experience, the teachers and principal go above and beyond for the students. His teacher this year started a higher-level reading group so they are more challenged and don't get bored in class. The staff has made the effort to keep him (and others, but I'm just speaking from personal experience) engaged, and wanting to learn. In the GATE program (Gifted And Talented Education) they learn things far above grade-level. The GATE teacher is very engaged with students, and works hard to keep the students progressing. It is a clean school, well-kept, and the students love it there. The staff that I have met are all wonderful, and you can tell they love their jobs. My only complaint about this school, is the parking lot. It's rather small, and kind of hard to navigate when it's full. They have an auxiliary parking lot, but it's only accessible by a gravel road. I also know that they house a YMCA boys & girls club in the gym after school, but I have no experience with it.

I love Cascade, it is truly a great school and a great environment. The teachers are amazing and sweet. However, my son is a Kindergartener there and I am so disappointed with the student to teacher ratio. 28 kids to one teacher with no aide is unbelievable. The county rezoned many of the Smithsburg children to attend school there and I truly believe they need to take another look at things.

I love this school, I went there as a child and now my kid's attend this school one in 2nd grade and one in kindergarten, the classes are small most all the teachers are great and personable, vicki the secretary is a wonderful woman, and they are very community oriented, I wouldn't take my kids out of this school for any reason, the only issue I have come to find is that they need something for the accelerated students but heck that is nothing compared to the greatness there!
