The school offers extracurricular activities that can not be found at any other home school program I have researched. Monte Vista is a wonderful school that can deliver an excellent hometown education if you take advantage of what they have to offer.

I cannot tell you how happy I am with Monte Vista. Words will not do justice. I was referred after many public school and charter referrals which were disappointments. Spanning from Arroyo Elementary, Colina Junior High in Westlake, Royal High School, and then a recommended Charter Opportunities for Learning. At the point of escalating our son's abilities to keep up at Royal High with multiple in person conferences with teachers and counseling, they neglecting to even TRY to address our concerns. Our son did not have any behavioral issues throughout his tenure in school. He may have had some attention issues as such with many boys which they never tried to address. Bottom line, we came to Monte Vista with our struggles and concerns. They were open arms. The first day we came to talk to them, the principal, Dr. P. came up and introduced himself from the garden area. They sat down and really acknowledged my son's needs to graduate. His teacher was hands on from the beginning to end. It was the most personable experience a mother could ever want for their child. I know from many schools to write this review. There are not many out there like this. I will hands down recommend this school, teachers, office staff. I cannot thank them enough for making the end of my son's high school experience the best. Thank you!!!!!! Oh... not to mention the cutest little chicks and bunnies on campus (animals) and beautiful garden.

Monte Vista School is an amazing place for many different types of students, but especially for those who are, for various reasons, not good fits for "traditional" schools -- whether that's because they need to launch ahead, or because they've fallen behind, or for emotional/mental reasons, etc. No two students and no reasons are alike at Monte Vista, and it's one thing that makes the place so great -- they recognize that all kids learn differently and have different needs, and thanks to Dr. Pietrolungo and the school he's created, they can get that. Both of our kids have gone/are going to Monte Vista. Our oldest started attending during her sophomore year, after she experienced emotional/psychological health issues, and felt like she couldn't go back to her traditional school. Monte Vista not only helped her get back on her feet, but between the work she did there and the freedom she had to take classes at Moorpark College (earning high-school credit while also getting college credit) helped her to really blossom. She was accepted to multiple highly competitive college programs, and in now going to university in NYC. Our youngest saw what her sister had done, and loved Monte Vista from afar - so when it came time to enter Middle School, chose Monte Vista over our local school (we're out of district and had to transfer in) -- and is loving it. Aside from her schoolwork, she's on the debate team, mock trial, helps run various events, and loves her teachers and, of course, the support staff and the amazing Dr. P. Monte Vista isn't for everyone -- some kids thrive in a traditional enviroment, and that's great -- but if you're thinking that you need something different or your student might really blossom in a more personalized place -- give it a look. We're huge fans!
