It is a very inclusive environment, and kids absolutely love this school. SPS needs to invest in this type of schools. So happy to be a part of this school!

Sand Point Elementary is a small neighborhood school (~200 kids, about 1/3 the size of nearby schools) with a strong community and some higher-than-ave socio-economic diversity for Seattle schools. The school pulls from affluent areas, low-income housing at Magnuson park, and university housing for UW. There's a large immigrant population, as well. We love this - our kids are getting exposure to a diversity of cultures, ethnicities, and family situations, aka a realistic view of the world! Be careful how you read school "scores" like you see on sites like this: they pretty much only report on overall school test scores, which don't take into account school population diversity. There's a 1:1 correlation in strong test scores to wealth/race (just look at the district data sliced by schools vs. wealth), so schools with 99% white or affluent communities have great test scores, and thus the highest school scores. It doesn't account for the fact that the scores are comparing apples and oranges, in terms of which populations in the community the schools are serving. The hours a kids spends at a school are not the only factors in determining whether a child will see success with standardized testing - parents' ability to help with school work at home, having access to consistent meals, learning English, and many other factors could be at play.Long story short, this small, community and family-oriented school is wonderful, with amazing staff making a huge difference in kids' lives. You'll never see that story in the "scores" represented here, though.

We have been very happy at Sand Point Elementary. Our son has grown and thrived at this school. The school is small and mighty, with great teachers, leadership, and family/PTA support. The diversity of the school reflects the diversity of the world and it is celebrated at Sand Point.

We have been incredibly happy with the experience that our child has had with all of the teachers and staff. We love the rock band after school program, the amazing SEL programs, and a PE that made our kid love to dance and play sports. Our student jumped 3+ levels of reading in one year and is ending the year as a confident learner that loves being at Sand Point.

Our son is in Kindergarten at Sand Point and we couldn't be happier. His teacher is great and thorough. The School's leadership is strong and their curriculum aligns with many of the top schools in the US. Couldn't be happier being a Sand Point Squirrel!

We’ve been at Sand Point for 5 years now and both my children are very happy and thriving there. The teachers are caring and excellent at what they do; they closely monitor my children’s strengths and weaknesses and partner with parents to ensure success. We are happy with our children’s academic progress, small class size, diversity of the student body, incorporation of music and art, as well as the social and emotional component to their learning. There is amazing support staff to help with all levels of learning. Great enrichment programs like Farm to Table Cooking and Rock Band are created by the talented community. Parents, Families, PTA, Principal Roberts, Teachers and Staff are engaged and committed to providing the highest quality of education.

I only gave the school a neutral overall grade because one of my children has had a consistently positive experience here for two years. Another one of my children attended for a year and had a wonderful dedicated teacher, but the principal has GOT TO GO! She is phony and has no understanding of the needs of diverse children, be it race or dis/ability. The parents know it and the teachers know it. This could be a great school with proper leadership, especially as the PTA is so strong and active.

Sand Point Elementary provides a mindful and comprehensive educational and social experience for students. The community of school leadership (principal, teachers, and staff) and parents and families are dedicated to the growth of children from an emphasis on social and emotional learning to providing challenging academics to meet the students where they are at. And, I am always impressed by how well the school leadership know my children, can speak about their progress, and support their needs; yet, they always want to know how they can make their experience a little bit better each day. Kids here are happy to go to school and they are becoming citizens of the world armed with all the right tools for success.

I wish there would be some awareness and accountability from those in charge with this school.

This is a great school. We moved from a more "desirable" school even though we did not have to because we felt the smaller size and quality of instruction were huge benefits. The parent community is great and gets stronger every year. An awesome school with a fantastic principal (Dan Warren).

The school's vision sums it up nicely: "At Sand Point Elementary, we are a community of lifelong learners, responsible global citizens, and champions of our own success." The staff, principal, students, and families demonstrate a commitment to investing in this vision on a daily basis. We are proud to be a part of Sand Point Elementary.

Sandpoint is a very special school. We couldn't be happier with the staff and other families we've been privileged to meet. Mr. Warren is the most amazing, hands-on, energetic, and creative principal. He and all his staff sincerely care about each and every student. They do their best to make sure each kid is thriving. My son qualified for advanced learning but he wanted to be at the same school with his sister who's started K this year. So, his teacher let's him "walk" to higher grades for math and reading so he's challenged at his level. I feel like these accommodations are possible because of the small class sizes and willingness of the staff to work with each child. We are so happy the great diversity, academic excellence, and overall warmth of school family.

Sand Point is a culturally diverse urban school with a "small town" feel. The principal is very hands-on and accessible. The teachers my kids have had are great. We love the Sand Point library - the librarian is tremendously helpful. My kids love their new school.

I totally agree with the previous reviews. The involvement of both the teachers and the principal is amazing and admirable. The library is terrific, with tons of new books. Our child felt at home from day one.

I second that - the principal is wonderful and has hired great teachers. Small intimate school with great diversity. Has a bit of a "start-up" feel since it is only a couple of years old.

Awesome school. Great principal. Great teachers. We moved to the area and it was a place where my child felt immediately at home.
