I have multiple children at Bryant Elementary, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience we’ve had. From the outstanding teachers who foster a supportive and engaging learning environment to the school’s strong emphasis on social and emotional learning, it’s clear that the well-being of students is a top priority. The specialist programs, including art, music, and PE, are fantastic and really help nurture the creativity and talents of the students. I’m also consistently impressed by the school librarian and the wonderful library program, which truly fosters a love for reading and learning. Bryant Elementary also benefits from a wonderfully engaged parent organization and PTSA, making it clear that the entire community is committed to supporting the school and its students. It’s a true asset to the neighborhood, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to any family looking for a caring, dynamic, and well-rounded school experience.

Honestly I do not know what my kids learn in their classrooms. There is no homework, and whatever they do in class are not graded. I have never received a single comment - written or verbal - on my kid's work. Teachers take vacation or time off without informing parents. They are the opposite of hard working or responsible. Typically they only reach out when they need volunteers or ask for donations. Also, lots of student turnover due to temporary students from overseas (e.g. parents are visiting UW) or departure to Decatur or private schools. Bryant is supposed to be a great school according to neighbors and parents, so when we decide to leave we won't need to look for another public school or second guess our choice.

We have had visiting scholars in my church who brought their kids with them to the US. Their children studied at Bryant Elementary School and just loved it. The teachers and students there are friendly, and the kids cried a lot when it was time to go back to their own countries because they loved the school so much.

They decided to take my kids off special ed unilaterally, citing resource allocation as reason. We're leaving the school in September. The school has benefited from parents engagement and being in an affluent neighborhood. There's an attrition of students at grade 3-5, so expect mixed-grade classrooms (e.g. they mixed some 3rd and 4th, 4th and 5th graders together).

Teachers often do not grade students' work. On multiple occasions, they just gave 100% even if there were wrong answers. If you can't count on them to grade, can you count on them to teach? To care?

We have multiple kids at Bryant and are impressed with the care and thought all staff and teachers provide to the students to grow academically and emotionally. The PTSA goes above and beyond keeping families engaged throughout the year and the onsite afterschool program (LASER) is great as well.

What a wonderful school and school community! Actively engaged parents and teachers support a thriving school community. Test scores are among the highest in the state but it is the quality of life at Bryant that makes it a true standout. The surrounding affluent neighborhood is picturesque and full of kids, making the entire school experience pleasant and fun. Halloween here is the best. My kids have had a fantastic education and school experience here. Highly educated parents keep teaching standards high. It is so fun for kids to walk to all the nearby kid friendly spots after school. The Bryant Blast keeps attracts local middle school almuni.

Student Progress Score: 3/10. "Students at this school are making way less academic progress given where they were last year, compared to similar students in the state." Those who give 5 stars and say everything is great are just ignorant and/or outright irresponsible.

I have had kid(s) in Sand Point, Thornton Creek, and Bryant Elementary. Not sure why Bryant is somehow considered better. Teachers at Bryant are the worst among the three schools. Most of them care about their vacations more than students. Don't count on them responding to your emails whenever you have questions, and don't count on them doing adequate work as simple as grading your kid's work. They don't even want to talk to you when you pick up your kids from school (some will literally turn their back on you). Most parents at Bryant (many of them are quite well-off) provide support after school. That's why the test scores are not disastrous. I don't have the money, so I'm stuck with public schools.Oh, and bullying is an issue here, even in Kindergarten!

Indifferent teachers. Low academic standards. Students are often left unsupervised with their ipads. Parents need to do a lot of work to make sure their kids are learning right, e.g. teachers always give 100% for their work even if there are multiple mistakes.

We have loved going to Bryant Elementary. The Kindergarten teachers go above and beyond to help the kiddos feel welcome and have a positive experience with the school system. The parent involvement and all the events really help to build a sense of community. Highly recommend.

We have had a wonderful experience at Bryant! The teachers are amazing. Wonderful and supportive community - teachers, administration, and families. Even through the pandemic teachers have gone above and beyond to keep kids learning and safe!

I did not like my experience at Bryant. I was nervous even to raise my hand and I would cry because I felt like I was failing school. If you send your child to Bryant, you should consider sending them to a private middle school. That is the only reason why I feel smart.

My daughter attended Bryant for 3 years. She is mixed and was constantly bullied pushed to the back as far as academics and only learned to read after retaining a tutor over a summer. She was assaulted by another student, this was not addressed by the teacher, principal, etc. I had to call the police and make an assault report before anybody even took notice. We have since moved to Sandpoint Elementarty and my daughter has never been happier!!!! Bullying is not tolerated, racism, being left out, none of these behaviors can go on at Sandpoint.......

Well fell into this elementary school (my husband went to grad school at the UW, and we grabbed a house close by) without knowing much about it, and we feel so lucky that our children have benefited from this well-rounded educational experience. The yearly chess tournament is an annual highlight. Both science fairs are good, but the one for the upper grades is superior: all students work with a UW grad student as a science adviser. Thus, the displays are professional quality, and the young kids get exposure to real scientists working in the field. Additionally, many of the parents work at the U and come in to speak about their areas of expertise; certainly the proximity to the UW is a huge benefit, as it is often used as an enrichment resource for various units and subjects. The kindergarten curriculum is first-rate, especially with its emphasis on civics and government, which is topped off with the yearly field trip to meet the Mayor and speak with City Council. All of SPS elementary math is much improved thanks to the new Singapore-style curriculum chosen in 2015, and we've seen that reflected in our children's work. Math club and after-school language offerings round out our kids' education at Bryant.I'm very sorry to hear about the previous parent's bullying complaint. Bryant has a huge anti-bullying campaign, and stresses the inclusive 'Bryant Way' theme constantly, culminating with a year-end assembly that underscores it. I do know one child that left due to bullying this year, but Bryant was this child's 3rd or 4th elementary school due to this issue. My children have contended with (and probably reciprocated with) typical playground behavior, mainly 'who-likes-whom' childhood crush material. I don't think that's exclusive to Bryant--just a part of life. Overall, not sure you could find a better all around elementary school in Seattle. One of so many reasons families no longer flee to the suburbs, but instead are raising kids in our beautiful city again!

My kids were relentlessly picked on here. Bad behavior goes unchecked over and over. Aggressive bullying is a genuine problem. The three reviews before mine are heavy on the aesthetics, historic architecture, beautiful neighborhood and upscale homes. None of these things add up to a warm, safe place to learn. Kids shouldn't be afraid to go to school in the morning. As for academics, they are so far behind we had to work very hard to catch up upon leaving Bryant. The worst part is that no one here seems to care, or at least care about the right things. Noses in the air, and the kids mirror that behavior. Kids who repeatedly get physical need to get the BOOT. Social justice should not replace actual learning. Posing needs to take a back seat to parenting. You can do it, Bryant!

I visit loads of schools for work, and think Bryant is probably the crown jewel in the top notch NE Seattle public elementary cluster. The (fully-modernized) building is aesthetically beautiful, with 100-year-old classic 3-story brick architecture and giant, light-filled multi-pane windows right out of a picture book. But it's what's inside that matters most: excellent, devoted teachers, an advanced curriculum right out of the gate in kindergarten (Gallagher in particular prepares the kids for 5th grade rather than 1st), hard-working PTSA and more parent/grandparent involvement than they probably need! Our family has loved Gallagher, Chon, Richard, Koerner, Bernard, Matthias & Kereluck--all thoughtful, dedicated, instructors. Loads of after-school activities to choose from, too...chess? Tennis? Sewing? Cooking? And so many more. Wonderful community of kids, parents and teachers--I wouldn't want my children to go anywhere else.
