Silicon Valley High School is an excellent option for teens who do best with self-paced learning. We originally chose SVHS for a foreign language class that was not offered at our local high school. SVHS was one of 3 vendors approved by our school district. But my daughter enjoyed the self-paced format so well, she ended up leaving public school and doing SVHS full time. As a student with ADHD and sensory processing differences, it is wonderful that SVHS allows her to take classes when she is feeling motivated and in an environment that she is in control of. She sometimes hyper-focuses on one class for 4-5 hours. Others days she toggles between multiple subjects. This control over her schedule has done wonders for her ability to learn and her mental health. Math is the only class that we ended up withdrawing her from. We found that the online format was not as effective for her as a more traditional pencil-and-paper curriculum. We found Denison Math to be a great fit for her learning needs in this area. My only criticism is that the dashboard does not let you accurately track progress in each class day-to-day.
