I’m reviewing in hopes there’s improvement and for incoming parents. The principal and teacher where helpful and kind in telling me what they did to improve, however, we moved schools. My non verbal autistic kid was coming home with injuries (lump on side of head, scrape on spine, bruises on shins). This is for 2022 a new teacher however she seemed nice. I was told communication for leaving school and inside the class was changed and other stuff so I really hope it has improved.

DO NOT send your child to this school. My child has autism and was send there because it was the only school that had a "special needs" classroom. She was only 4 yrs old and came home from school crying everyday. A couple weeks in she began throwing up at school and I had to go get her. Her teacher sent home a note in her lunch box describing her as "defiant and disrespectful" and wouldn't follow directions. This teacher knows she was born 3 months early and has many challenges but thinks its appropriate to name call a disabled 4yr old in a note! I immediately set up a meeting with her and she was clearly not invested in my daughters care and told me she's had to put her in a "time-out" several times a day. They do this by putting a large foam pad between her and everyone else. Its taller than she is and she would get hysterical because she couldn't see anyone so they would make her stay longer. It broke my heart and I refused to bring her back. I put in a complaint with the school board and she quit a couple weeks later. I enrolled her at Simmonds Elementary and she has excelled and absolutely loves going to school. Not a tear or a call from school saying she's sick. Please don't send your children there, especially if they have special needs. The principle is a joke too, his only concern was that kids show up everyday because they get funding based on attendance. Very disturbing.

I have substitute taught at several schools within the SJUSD and Olinder is one of the better run schools.

I would say that all the staff at this school is great. My son, loves school and is doing very well. There is a great after school program, the teachers are great,they go above and beyond to help there students. The staff and principal try to help and organize well. They have lots of school spirit. It would be nice to have more programs that have been cut from the district. Other than that I recommend this school 5 stars! Great Teachers !

BOTH OF MY KIDS ARE BEING ATTENDING OLINDER SINCE PRESCHOOL. I SEEING A LOT OF CHANGES THRU THE YEARS. AT THIS DAY I COULD TELL THAT IM HAPPY WITH MY KIDS IMPROVES... I LOVE THAT MY SON LOVES HIS TEACHERS MS. TAN, MRS. CARRILLO AND RUVALCABA. AND HIS ENJOYING HIS LAS YEAR AT OLINDER... MY GIRL SHE LOVES SCHOOL TOO.. AND SHE LOVES BEING IN MRS. DE LA TORRE AND MS. CASAS CLASS... BOTH OF THEM ARE LEARNING A LOT THIS YEAR.

I have a daughter at this school. The pricipal does not know how to keep up, with the teachers. (But yeah she wants to be called Dr. Torres). I have had problems with the teachers not being able to teach my daughter, because they are so focused on ELD classes, that she does not need. I love Ms.Tan, Mr.Peng. The both helped my son now in MIddle School achieve his goals. I strongly believe the Principal needs to be a roll model for the school and she is not. I will be moving my daughter to another school soon.
