This family loves John Muir. The environment is inclusive for all kids and any time there is an event we see so many parent volunteers. We are a little community, and appreciate both the academic and social education our kids are experiencing at John Muir.

My kindergartner LOVES going to school here. She practically pushes us out the door. She is learning a lot and has made a lot of new friends. Ms. G is a great communicator and teacher.

I had a 5th grade teacher who yelled at me because I got an answer wrong. She thought I was a different person and * nicely * said they were wrong. After she realized she mixed up students, she told the other person that they were right and then yelled at me for getting the answer wrong. I left the zoom and cried.

John Muir Elementary is a class act. We couldn't be happier with our children's education at John Muir. The teachers, academics, facilities, fellow students, and parents have always been supportive and welcoming. The school has an inclusive culture and really cares about these kids. Our children are not only getting the best public education possible, they're making memories to last a lifetime.

My child was physically shaken by her kindergarten teacher. Other parents have reported the same types of experiences happening in this classroom. All have reported it and nothing has been done.

My son's 2nd grade teacher did not take the time to understand his needs and style of learning. My son lost his self esteem and told me he hates himself and doesn't want to live anymore. She would put him down, over discipline and send him to principle's office, who told us we need to put him on meds. The reason why this is all outrageous is because he never had these issues with any other teachers in previous grades and schools. The following year (3rd grade in a different school) my son was completely different. He didn't have any of those issues. Imagine if I followed their advise and put him on meds.

I've had 6 years of experience with this school. The teachers and principal are outstanding! In spite of major budget difficulties and too large class sizes, the teachers are enthusiastic and diligent in teaching each and every child according to their individual needs. I've been constantly in awe of each of the teachers my three children have had. I have nothing, but praise for this school.

The principal is not proactive when it comes to bullying or altercations between children in the playground. She thinks the children should be suspended, and lose valuable educational days instead of proactively making the children talk out their problems. So that they can learn from their mistakes and possibly become great friends. Who in their right mind takes away a child's education? When a child is in school, they are there to be taught and suspending children for small disputes should not be accepted or tolerated in any school districts. How can superintendents allow this in schools? Again parents beware!

Saying the staff is great would be obvious. But the school needs materials and help. They have to beg parents for money to help the school due to cuts in the education funding. Teachers haven't had raises in 7 years. I volunteer at the school to help out. Teachers have to buy their own resources every year to help out kids. I'm sure many schools are just like this but I figure I would submit them anyways. Its really a great community school. Al

I am an alumni of John Muir and attended there for 7 years (It was still K-6 when I left) and I must say some of the teachers I had (Petronis, Dallara and Burns as well as many others) were phenomenal in the ways they helped students and genuinely cared. Dr. Dunleavy is wonderful as a principal and was just as good of a kindergarten teacher. They focus a lot on academics and want students to succeed.
